Can the BCM be reprogrammed for added OEM options?
I've done a search and come up with different answers. I want to add a few OEM options to my '04 Blazer (power seats with memory, steering wheel radio controls, factory fog lights, trip computer, RKE). My local dealer says I need a new BCM that would then have to be programmed with all of these RPOs. I keep hearing from others here that a BCM can simply be reprogrammed with the correct RPOs.
Which is it? |

only thing i think that goes into the bcm is keyless and fog lights..and the keyless has a seperate mod that you need..
all the others are stand alone as far as i know... |

Re: Can the BCM be reprogrammed for added OEM options?
What's the separate mod for the RKE? Are you referring to the transmitter box under the dash? Or is there something else involved? I'm hesitant to go aftermarket with most things electronic as it seems that just about everything in the truck runs through the ECM/BCM/PCM and I don't want to mess up anything. Fog lights could be done aftermarket and I'm not so hesitant to do that since it's mostly wiring (separate from any control modules) and relays, but it would be nice to use the OEM switch under the headlight switch for a cleaner look. |

yeah if you change over all the components from the switch you should be fine since it will still match your bcm

Re: Can the BCM be reprogrammed for added OEM options?
What needs to be done (somewhere down the road) when I actually need a new ignition switch? Would I have to take it to a dealership? Would they need to either reprogram my BCM or would I even need a brand new one (at around $400) just for an ignition switch swap? Or would I need to do that passkey relearn thing? (key in run position for 30 min, etc, etc)
Just trying to plan ahead. |

Re: Can the BCM be reprogrammed for added OEM options?
i just bought some power seats for my truck from a member on zr2usa, he already has power leather seats with memory in his zr2. i asked him if it all worked and he told me the memory doesnt becuase he would have to get a new BCM with the memory stuff programmed in it.

Re: Can the BCM be reprogrammed for added OEM options?
OK, thanks. Back to my original question then. Can a dealer (or anyone with the proper equipment) reprogram my BCM or will I have to buy a new BCM and have it programmed with all of the options I want to use?
