Alternator amp output testing
Whats the best way to test the alt max output? I took it to autozone and their machine was down and pepboys alt machine only tells me the volts,I'm trying to figure out the AMP output.Can I use a regular handheld meter? Are there any places that can tell me the max amp output of my alt while its in the vehicle? I saw someone on here that had their HO ALT tested on a machine and it told him the volts and rpms and amps.Alright well thanks in advance!

take to a shop that rebuild's alt's....they can test it for ya...H.O. or reg..

it needs load tested to really make sure it's good. an alternator shop will be able to do it no problem. last shop i was at charged $5 to load test each alternator i had.

Well they tested it at the shop i got it from but it was on some old ass tester machine that had needles and it looked kind of shitty.

the old-ass machine probly still works tho.
I don't know where you are but if there's a farm n fleet near you, they test them in-vehicle with a handheld tester. I do it all the time at work :-p |
