97 Headlight upgrade

ok I know alot of guys just do a blazer front end swap or the 98+ swap on their sealed beam trucks if they want a new look. But i really like my grill just hate how the sealed beams work. I DID A SEARCH and couldnt find anything on these lights i found. Has anybody used them/know somebody who has? Do they work well? Worth the 40 bucks? any input is welcome thanks guys

Re: 97 Headlight upgrade

those are junk. they dont project any light. they will also be dimmer because of the black background. the reason behind the chrome background on a headlight is to reflect the light out. The black headlights will asborb the light, thus making them dimmer than a stock headlight. If you are looking for brighter lights, I suggest a diamond cut H4 headlight with an HID kit. I also suggest 6k or 8k HID bulbs. That is about the brightest light you can buy.

well i guess im more looking for the looks because im gonna end up buying a new black grille and black chrome grille inserts. and if i really need to do a lot of night driving then swapping the sealed beams really isnt hard either... But could i swap those light bulbs out and upgrade those black lights over to to the 8k hid's? Would that help with the light output and bring the black ones back up to par with stock?

x2 on junk. I had a pair with HIDs on a casper shield. The output was bright but not very sharp on the road. I have a pair sitting in the garage. If you want them, just pay me $20 and I'll send them to you. I can get pics if you want.

Even with the HiD H4s, if you keep the black lenses, very little light will be projected forward from the housing itself, as it has nothing to reflect forward off of. You'll be plenty visible to people coming at you, but the light projecting forward for you to use will be minimal at best.

If you're gonna go with the conversion, just stick with regular "diamond"/clear housings, no projectors (forget the frog-eye look, doesn't work on the pre '98s), and you'll be very satisfied with the light output. I went 8000k on the headlights, and 15000k on the fogs.
