2001 Can Odometer be Rolled Back?

I'm looking at a 2001 S10 to replace my wrecked 2000 S10. The odometer on the 2001 shows 51000 miles. It has more wear on the steering wheel than my 2000 that has142000 miles on it. Any way to know if the mileage has been tampered with? Is it possible to change the digital odometers?

Cluster may have been swapped with a lower mileage one.

You can have most clusters sent off and have a mileage programed into them.

Funny how things have changed in 50 years. Back in 68 when I returned to the world my first job was at a Pontiac dealership. The first week there they taught me how to set back the odometer on trade ins. Then most were trucked to CA to be sold before the rust started showing. We got paid for 1 hour. I loved Mustangs, they took about 15 minutes.

Today they have to send them out to have it done. Then shipped south before the rust shows, since CA no longer accepts cars from other states.
Funny how things remain the same.

It could be a low mile city only driven vehicle where someone was getting in and out 100 times a day. Was it old man owned who only drove 6 miles to coffee shop round trip every day? AKA its worn out and might as well 251K miles on it - short drives are what kills vehicles.

Anything is changeable but you arent doing it in your driveway anymore.
