If you paint it, it will just chip or wear off, and its not something people usually see anyways.

the bottom will be silver, and black on top. now the latch is black

The unpainted will stick out on the black, but I like the looks of the unpainted latch.

I would leave them unpainted, if painted it will always chip or wear through where the latch hits the striker each time.
