Who was your first?

Me and an employee were talking today about cars and the conversation of our first cars got brought up, so that got me curious. I'm gonna throw this at you too, not only what was your first car, but what did you learn to drive stick on? (pics are cool too)

First car was a 95 cavalier base, 4 door faded red with no ac and only 2 windows that rolled down.
learned stick (kinda) on a flat fender jeep, (officially) on a 88 or 85 mr2. probably one of the funnest cars I've driven.

Re: Who was your first?

My first was a 1993 ford bronco. It was lifted on 33's. I hated it. I never wanted a 4wd...and now I wish I had it back, especially since it was passed down from my dad to me. Now that dad has passed...i wish i had never sold that bronco.

I learned to drive a stick when i worked at a car lot. The owner would let me drive any of the cars home at the end of the day. There was a 1997 ford escort 5 spd that I decided to drive home every day.
...poor car. I gave it hell.

First was my 98' Sono

Learned to drive stick moving dump trucks around a yard at my first job when I was 14. First "car" I learned on was an old winter beater Cavalier.

I'm guessing a Sono is a shorthand bastardized version of Sonoma...if not, I'm lost. Any way...1971 Volkswagen...hated that car from the day I drove it off the lot.

Re: Who was your first?

1957 Ford Consul

English Ford, 4 cylinder, 3 on the tree. Never drove this on the street, I was only 13 at the time. Family sold this before I got my license. We had a very steep driveway and when I was learning to hill start with a standard the first attempt I ended up with the car at the edge of the street because I kept stalling it. This POS would not start if a raindrop was in sight. I remember removing the cap, wires and distributor and warming them in the oven before reinstalling them and starting it.

I also worked my summer on a ranch, driving a dump truck with next to no brakes, and a D8 Cat.

I took my road test on a 1960 Olds 98

My first car was a $50 1958 VW Bug. It sat abandoned for 2 years, cost me 4 bucks to get it running.

It was in great shape, just like the one in the pic here, but being the kid I was I hacked the body up to make a Baja Bug out of it. I drove it over 50,000 miles in 2 years. It was so worn from off-roading that when I was done with it I drove it to the dump, removed the plates and walked away. You could do that back in those days. I owned 30+ VWs over the next 20 years.

Re: Who was your first?

1st car was a 66 Impala coupe 327/glide. I've posted a pic before. Maybe I'll try to find it and post it again later. I bought the car before the muscle car boom for 1500. It had never seen rust and was a newer resto. First vehicle I learned to drive a manual on is a toss up. I kinda learned on two at the same time. One was a sand rail and the other was a 1974 Chevy C10 250/3 on the tree. It was 0 optioned city truck.

Re: Who was your first?

I learned to switch gears in a 60's VW Beetle while riding with my dad when I was maybe 10 or so. I was in the passenger seat changing gears for him while he would drive. I learned to drive a manual in an 86? beat ass Isuzu Pup. My first vehicle was my 86 S-10 with 2.8 V6 and automatic.

Here it is circa when I first got it at 16 years old.

and today

Re: Who was your first?

1st car I drove? No idea what it was but I was 14. I met a girl at a party, she was 16 or 17 with her mom's car. We went for a drive and she let me drive. lol
So what if I jumped the curb!
I learned to drive a stick in a jeep in the Marine Corps. Before Humvees.

My 1st car was a piece of crap, white, 1975 Mercury Cougar XR7 or something like that.

First car was an 87 Grand Prix I've always regretted selling

305/200-4R. Interior was mint aside from the headliner. Frame and floors were nice and rust free. Stupid clean for a New England car. Was little old lady owned.

I learned to drive stick in an '89 f150 that I bought just for that purpose. Had my friend drive it home for me. I'd take it out after dark with no plates on it to practice on side streets.

I got tired of being corrected by people that my truck isn't an "S10" even though it is. So i've taken to using Sono/Sonoma where possible.

Though now it's completely debaged and has a bow-tie grill so I am using S10 more again

First car I bought was a '73 Nova hatchback. scrapped that a few weeks after I got it home. Drove my dads '90's Dodge dynasty until I got my '93 S10 in '97. Man that dynasty would smoke the RF tire making a turn! I've had a lot of F bodys since then until I got my '97 SS.

Yep, weirder than weird. That is (technically) a collectable POS.
Never had a hot encounter in that one, the back seat was about the size of a fold up chair.

Learned stick on a military surplus 1947 Jeep CJ2 (?) at Prospect Mountain in Woodford, Vermont when I was 12. I didn't even stall it.

I learned to drive stick when I was 13 in my dad's 85/87 chevette(there's been so many cars since I don't remember for certain which year it was) which later on became my first car. I loved that car and drove the hell out of it. I miss that thing. Classic case of wish I had never sold it

I'm hearing a lot about missing this one and that one. I've had about 20 cars. 18 were daily drivers. I miss this one the most.

1965 VW Beetle 1600, dual port, weber carb. It was a blast to drive. I bought it right after my divorce. I kept me occupied.

Re: Who was your first?

First was a 99 excab s10 2.2 auto that I actually still have (non running)

Learned stick in my step-dads 91 Nissan pickup.

Ive had just as many autos as manuals. Currently rotate between one of each, vehicles #6 and #8. Only had 1 car ever, 6 pickups and my tahoe

Re: Who was your first?

First car was my Grandpa's 1986 Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera: 2.5 Iron Duke with an auto. It had rusted pretty bad being as it was a Michigan car, but I still loved it.
The first car I learned to drive a manual with was my Dad's 1983 Toyota Corolla 2 door. That car had RWD and is the reason I prefer a manual to this day.

Re: Who was your first?

First car I owned was a 76 MGB, it was a rust bucket and never actually saw the road lol.

My first actual driver that I owned was a 92 Chevy K1500..only had a 4.3 but man did that thing take a beating on and offroad.

It was my first truck, first 4.3 I blew up(first engine swap), first transmission I smoked(first tranny swap).....Man there were a lot of firsts in that truck.....hahaha

Well, I'm in my 50s and I lost my license for 10 years. I'd buy "throw aways" for $100-$200 and drive them until the cops take them. lol
