What happened to the forum?

Ive been away from the forum for a long time. Joined the Marine Corps back in 08, and havent really been on since. It used to be insanely active, hundreds of new threads posted in the OT section daily, questions flooding the Suicidedoors.com section. Now it seems almost dead. I used to be on here quite a bit, its almost sad how it is now. Did anything in particular happen?

And whats going on with Suicidedoors? I went to order some parts the other day, and had a friend tell me not to order from them. Started doing a little research, and actually found negative stuff on them now. They were the shit 4-5 years back. Feels like everything has changed so quickly, haha.

What happened with orangesonoma? I forgot all the old guys that used to be on here, but I recognize anyone now, lol.

Sucks it was sold, but I dont see how that would change people posting. Maybe its the Facebook generation? Ive always hated change.

I do not know what it was back in 03 when you joined, but I still find it very useful and knowledgeable. Alot of repeat threads though that get annoying.

Re: What happened to the forum?

There are repeate threads any any forum. The problem is people want to hollar search noob and you get tons of 2+ page threads of people saying the same exact thing. You then get pages upon pages of that even if you do search before you can find the answer. Simply answering the noobs question if you know it wouldn't have taken any longer.

Then the sell out was a joke. Company don't give a damn about the forums subject matter its just a paycheck. Honestly they started bringing in companies and giving them their own section and they don't even carry parts for s-series. The companies that do make parts, have been loyal to the site for years they raise the prices to the point they have to leave.

The site started out as a few friends with something in common. It grew to a great site with people from all over the world. Once it got too big and the suits took over its been on a down hill slide. The care and love for s-series isn't there from them and they don't care about the members. As long as they have their ads up to keep the site at the top of search engines noobs will keep coming. Us old members leave 5 noobs sign up and click on the stupid ads so its cash in their pocket.

It sucks that would be true. But I'm seeing alot of other sites going the same way. Even seen the top ones just seem like they were dead. I miss how things were on here and a few of the others.

Vehicle forums have gotten bad across the board if you ask me, there are still a few people/contributors that are very helpful but it's all just a lot of arguing over useless shit mostly otherwise.

Re: What happened to the forum?

From what Ive noticed most people who would normally be posting threads on these type of forums are all doing facebook updates instead of build threads. Its seems like I see more and more people saying oh well he posts updates on his facebook mean while their build threads are dead.

Re: What happened to the forum?

It's a forum based around a spicific group of vehicles that is no longer produced.at best you can get an '05 blazer or '04 crew. we are still talking about 7-8 year old trucks.there are a lot of members here that don't even own a s10 anymore.a decline in members is enviable.

I'm newish especially compared to you and a lot of members in this thread.not only to this forum but,in forums in general.the time frame your talking about I wasn't here but,my brother was.he was a member from almost the beginning.this place was insane back in the day.stuff changes

thanks for your service to our country BTW!

Re: What happened to the forum?

I'm not happy they stopped making them but, with the stupid shit GM's making nowadays!its good they stopped.an s10 could be a front wheel drive mini van by now, lol.who knows? it's best that they leave the name alone instead of tarnishing it by releasing some abomination with its name sake IMO.

Re: What happened to the forum?

I still say the forum threads are best for our builds. I get confused on facebook sometimes. I do think that all of the forums went dead all about the same time too. I know they may not make our s10's anymore but they are not dead to me yet.

Google will pull their advertising if there is too much "inappropriate" stuff. GMTHQ had to remove their hot chick thread not too long ago because of it :

I definitely dont want to sound like I'm trying to convince anyone to pay for DM status, but google cant search the private section of the forum...

Re: What happened to the forum?

Man I used to post on here all the time! This forum was the reason that I built my truck the way I did. I would always watch other build up threads, and get familiar with what mods people were doing. Helped me to learn!

I think growing up is definitely what happened. I am looking to buy a house, and try to get all settled down. I still take my truck out, but honestly its hard to drop all of my paycheck on the truck like I used to. Life has me looking at the bigger picture now.

I am trying to get back into it as much as I used to, but its definitely hard!

Re: What happened to the forum?

That's the reasons I joined these forums back in 2000. I learned alot of it from the ones I'm on. I've also met alot of cool people. I've never suck a whole check in mine tho. It was stuff I'd do when I had time and it would be one thing at a time too.

Re: What happened to the forum?

This is just my guess, but I think Facebook started to consume peoples' time that they would otherwise spend in Off Topic.

Also, Google has become a much more efficient way to find the answer to tech questions than it used to be. For example, the G-body community alone has 10 major forums that have become packed with information in the past decade. The ability to go to one website and search all 10 forums for things like brake and suspension upgrades makes life alot easier than searching each one individually, especially when most forums require you to be a member to use the search feature.

Re: What happened to the forum?

No it was the kid who bought it off me and never fully paid made an account and acted like another person, Then of course people on here threatening him and shit got out of control fast.

I showed up at the kids house 3 or 4 times and he was "never" home but could call me as soon as i pulled away. His pussy supposed cop of a father called me up and was acting like a 12 year old pissing his pants. I just chalked it up as a loss

Re: What happened to the forum?

This forum was definitely better a few years back, but as of lately, it has been pretty decent again. The insults and fighting was out of control for a while, in almost every thread, but I dont see it much anymore, which is awesome.

I met several of the original midwest members on here. partied at S-Series nationals in Kansas City, back in 2003 or 2004 (I think), bought/sold lots of parts from this forum (and until recently, NEVER had too much of a problem with anyone). I also got so much help on DIY mods/repairs, I cannot even count how many times i came to the forum for help, and the members on here were spot on with their advice.

Overall, this is still a good forum. Lots of the "original" members still stop by and say hi every so often.
