Anyone own or have shot a Ruger P95? Looking to possibly pick one up next week. Just curious on any feedback.

Re: The New Firearm Thread

Danny, my dad a Ruger P95 a few months back. I have shot it quite a few times now. Has a really nice (easy pull) trigger on it since the slide cocks the hammer back for you.

I was actually shooting it today. It's pretty accurate, and for the $299ish price, you really can't beat it. Came with a case and 2 mags.

Part 1: http://youtu.be/RA4FU7RgNcE
Part 2: http://youtu.be/mQKHi8mTUUc

Had to split the video in 2 because the spinner tilted so far back that it was digging into the dirt. Fixed it for the second vid.

Sorry, I don't know how to embed the youtube video into the page...

Re: The New Firearm Thread

Thanks man. I'm was looking at it as I think the wife will be comfortable using it if she had to.. Not looking to spend a ton, so like you mentioned, the $300 price point is fitting.

Re: The New Firearm Thread

Right, and on another note with the trigger. I've noticed that when shooting most pistols, and it isn't just me, there is a reaction before firing to push the gun forward to counter the recoil. With the Ruger P95, I have noticed I tend not to push the gun forward. I think its because of how easy it is to pull the trigger. The hair trigger could be a good or bad, depending on your shooting style. I really like it.

Re: The New Firearm Thread

Thanks for the replies guys, I plan on leaving both guns as I received them. The Patina on the lever-action doesn't seem to hinder the function at all, barrel rifling looked great.

The Derringer has a home-made handle that needs re-tightening every so often. I was probably going to buy some home-defense rounds and keep it for that purpose- then put it on my bookshelf lol

love me some lever action.
my father has one of those excam .38 derringers too, only one of the firing pins is there though, +p will bruise your palm.
Yeah, it kicks pretty good for a little gun, especially with the 158 grain rounds I was using.

My room-mate is a little gun crazy, he has about 10-11 of them packed in his room, his glock, taurus, and 45 long colt are always loaded.

Re: The New Firearm Thread

Had a little fun at a small time range this weekend. Basically a makeshift area behind a local gun shop. That's my 10 year old bro at the beginning, getting pretty good with his gun safety, he checks the safety and to make sure it isn't loaded before coming back to reload.

Re: The New Firearm Thread

Lol, "Amanda" is right though, the LC9 seems to be a pretty decent gun for concealing, being a 9mm and not a little .380.

Just depends on where you shoot someone, should you have to defend yourself though. A well placed shot from any gun should get the job done.

Yeah its a champ. I forgot to mention it came with the slug barrel as well....those things pack one hell of a punch when firing slugs...

Is this a fair price for this Mossberg 500? I have no clue about shotguns, but everyone I talk to highly recommends it for a pump action.

I've seen the tactical models go for less though....new.

If you can find it closer to $275 or $300 for used then it would be a better deal

One gun store owner said that the Horaday zombie ammo is just regular ammo with the tip dipped in green paint. I'd hate to see a ton of people get sucked into that one.

false. it is pretty much the same as hornaday critical defense. the only difference is a green, instead of red polymer tip inside of the hollowpoint cavity, as well as a normal brass instead of the nickle plated. its not paint lol. its actually a dollar cheaper for the zombie max than the critical defense at cabelas.

Well my lightbulb kicked on and I decided I need to go to the range and shoot a few shotguns (and learn about them) before I just buy one. Anything I should look for (besides personal feeling) in a good pump action?

this ^

here is the link for the zombie max ammo http://www.hornady.com/store/Zombie-Max-new

also can someone tell me about these different types of 30-30 rounds. pretty much looked at every kind bass pro had. had 125 grain, 150, 160,170 flat tip, round tip, hollow point, polymer tip. one box of 20 round "powerpoint" 150 grain for 17.99 and another 20 round box of "powerpoint" 150 grain for 49.99 but has shiny stickers all over it lol. what is going to be the best for plinking and best for hunting deer/hog?

Depends on what you're using it for and what you want it to do. A tried and true option would have to be the Remington 870 for me, comes in countless flavors, with a very large after market support, and it's been in production/service since 1951.

If you want to do some reading see here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Remington_870 and for seeing it in action:

Re: The New Firearm Thread

The real reason is home defense, but I can see myself practicing on my off-time. Pretty much a beginner shotgun that will serve its defensive purpose but also be fun to use (like that 870!)

Edit: How do yall like the traditional stocks versus a pistol grip and stock (tactical)?

Yeah he's awesome. great videos with tons of information, plus he's not "tacti-cool" like that retard Nutnfancy. The 870 is my next purchase after my upcoming Glock 19, after I get my restricted firearms license in the coming months.

+1

I'd like to snatch up a remington sometime. My dad has a 20 gauge that my little bro likes to shoot and it seems like a pretty solid shotgun.

Re: The New Firearm Thread

What distance were you shooting at and how was your grouping?

Re: The New Firearm Thread

not far at all. only time i was able to shoot was around 10 at night at my friends house and was pitch black out. set the target up probably around 10 yards out. as far as either of us could see. 5 out of 6 were probably in a 2-3 inch group and one was 6 inches away from the others. i flinched really bad on that one. next time i go to his house ill try to go durring the day when i can see and set something up around 50 yards. got to go to a few gun shops and try to find a peep sight for it. if not im going to order one online. just got to get to the package before my mom does.. she still doesnt know about the gun lol. dad told me i better not tell her.

Re: The New Firearm Thread

lol im glad my mom grew up on a farm and is wanting to hold every gun i bring over haha.

Im wantign to change my mossberg 500 from a standard hunting shotty to a more home defense/tactical one.

I kinda like the looks of the stock with pistol grip but havent held any in that setup - i guess ill have to go venture to some gun stores.

Ive also seen a tube extender so i can have 8 shells instead of 3 and a shorter barrel so its i belive 20" instead of 26...

any recomended brands to buy/avoid when looking for aftermarket mossberg 500 parts???

I think my next toy is going to be a mosin nagant. Buds has them for 109 shipped. Only concern is I've heard that they are a pain in the ass to put scopes on.

Re: The New Firearm Thread

i have 2 mosins and i dont think its the weight (trust me you will appreciate the weight - less kick) its just the ackward front hand grip. i just "weighed" them (one in each hand) and my mosin feels just about the same weight as my moss 500. its just the mosin is so long and odd handgrip it feels heavier.

i think they are a blast to shoot, plus the surplus ammo is dirt cheap right now but you must must must clean it really good immediately after you shoot the surplus stuff!
