Bushmaster is a good brand. I'd say it could be considered one of the more high dollar brands along with Smith & Wesson (M&P) and Colt. Some lower to mid priced brands that are still very good brands are Rock River Arms, DPMS, Stag Arms, CMMG. I know there's probably some more I'm forgetting. I've shot all of the above brands aside from Smith & Wesson. Never heard of the "Carbon 15" by Bushmaster but that is a good brand. They are a just little high priced in my opinion. I think you're paying some more for the name. That's just me though. I'd look for a DPMS or Rock River. There's also "Olympic Arms." I've heard both good and bad things about them. I'll be hoenst though that I don't know much about them so I'm not going to comment on them one way or antoher. Two of my old college roommates have Stag Arms AR-15's. Both good guns and they both got them at very good prices. My AR is a full-length 20" CMMG. Cheap gun, shoots great. I plan to pick up a lower for building short 16" carbine style gun before January 20th and I can say I will more than likely be going with a Stag Arms or DPMS lower half due to price. Upper will probably be one of the two or Rock River.

GTNLWR, you'll be happy to know that since you jumped on my case last time I gave AR pointers I've since done my homework about the difference in 5.56x45mm and .223 Remington. I feel stupid I didn't know that before.

Re: The New Firearm Thread

Yeah, since I made my post earlier I looked into them. They're not what I thought they were at all. Figured "Carbon 15" was just another name or model or maybe style. What they are is very weird. Never knew anything like that existed. Composite recievers... wow.

I am glad you gaind some knowledge, they are a VERY CLOSE copy of each other, but still not the exact same. Besides case capacity, pressure level and throat tolerances they are pretty close... atleast in overall dimensions.

The Carbon 15 is an answer to a problem that doesnt exist. The Carbon recievers do not hold up well, the guns are pretty much crap, regardless of caliber, I work with Carbon fiber and composite material every day, this stuff cannot handle "wear" on it like aluminum can. The CF is just too soft. The feed ramp area of there guns typically wear rather quickly to the point when the guns are no longer reliable in feeding. They also dont handle a KB situation very well. They shatter like glass. Not something I want my hands wrapped around if it turns into a hand grenade. I would reccomend agains the Carbon AR15's. They also use a few specialty parts that are not on the open market, like the handgaurds. The pistols are even worse. there is alot of parts like the carrier that are pistol speciffic too.

Hope this helps.

Re: The New Firearm Thread

I used to have a blued T605, I carreid it alot. Its a AWESOME little 5shot super compact. Currently I do carry a revolver. Its a S&W 642 Airweight. I Prefer to carry Corbon 38+P loads or if I am in a dry hot climate I will load it up with 38spl shot shells.

Currently 4" SW460 is on my want list, however its on the very bottom, right now I am focusing on the more "tacticool" stuff right now.

Re: The New Firearm Thread

Yeah, I can deffinanlty understand loading up on "tactical gear" right now considering the "political winds" in washington are about to start blowing to the extreme left. I was really wanting a Ruger SP101 until I saw the price of it compared to the Taurus!

Re: The New Firearm Thread

You know, I don't know if I'd jump on the "tacticool" stuff right away. Never though I'd see myself saying this a couple weeks ago, but I'd at least wait till Spring.

I was quick to hit the bandwagon after November 4th and picked up a good deal of ammo and high capacity magazines. Looking back, yeah, I bought into the hype. But I almost feel as though it was a political statement as well.

I was also shopping around for a second (M4 style) AR-15, then decided I already had one, I'd get something different. So I was this close (read: holding thumb and index finger about a quarter inch apart) to buying an AK-47 but then decided I've already got an "evil black rifle" I didn't need something else semi-auto with iron sights and high round capacity.

My most recent shopping has been focused on a Savage Arms .30_06 hunting rifle.

Re: The New Firearm Thread

Yeah, I'm not so much worried about these rifles being banned so much more than I am a HUGE tax increase on these "black rifles", hi-cap mags, most ammunition and the such. You'll still be able to get this stuff just be prepared to PAY!!! Remember that our president-elect voted in Illinois to imposed a 500% tax increase on firearms and ammunition, fortunately they didn't have the votes so it didn't pass. Just something to think about.

Right now, I am loking at all the toys I want that I might not be able to get in a few years. Weve had years to stock up, now, its just a frenzy. I pretty much have what I could ever need, but not everything I could ever want.

an AK isnt a bad idea right now.

Enjoyed the tax-free weekend here in SC, and picked up a new (to me) handgun. Should work out pretty good, once I get my CCW.

Re: The New Firearm Thread

Actually the light is not all that heavy. Doesn't weigh much more than the battery alone. And, granted-it does not really belong on that gun, it does not stay on there all the time. I just have it on there incase someone breaks into my house after dark. Kind of nice to see what I am aiming at. Would have liked something smaller, but will mount up just fine when my next purchase (XD 45) gets made. Then this will simply be my carry pistol. (After my ccw, of course)

Ok look, they CAN NOT take our guns. Period. The 2nd Amendment guarantees this. "But they did it in Australia" Yes, but Australia does not have a Constitution guaranteeing the right to keep firearms, so they don't count. Remember, Clinton tried his version of gun control by banning "military looking rifles" and alot of congressman and senators lost their seats in 1994 because of this piece of crap legislation. Why do you think that when the "Clinton Gun Ban" expired a few years ago nobody in congress would even consider trying to renew it? Because the Dems didn't want a repeat of 94 in 06. Ok, I'm sorry, I'll shut up now. Don't be worried about the Dems taking your guns, be worried about the taxes they want to impose on firearms and ammunition. Imagine if our president-elect gets his wish, expect a $700 AR style rifle to jump to $3400 after taxes. Expect a $11.00 box of 9mm jump to well over $100. Yikes.
