Re: Static Guys Unite!
yeah, my mazda rides about like stock, all i've done is loosen the torsions, pulled a leaf and a drop block, nothing there will stiffen the suspension at all. My only thing is i've pulled the bump stops for extra suspension travel, so if/when it bottom's out, its steel/steel.
When I lower it more, I'm going to flip the ball joints (no change in ride), index the torsion bars, and pull another leaf in the back (which will make it softer)... but i'm also going to do a mini notch to keep some travel. For s10's... they tend to ride like shit when lowered cause they're such a heavy suspension for such a light truck. |

Re: Static Guys Unite!
a fbss bag setup with front/rear swaybars and some nice ass shocks will handle very well
and the best part, you can adjust the handling and spring rate with the flip of a switch |

Re: Static Guys Unite!
im more of a static guy, i think bags are badass because of the simple fact they are bags and because of the work that is involved, but its not the route i want to take, im currently lookin at getting my 2/3 drop here very soon. ive read quite a bit about how bags are high maintainance, maybe thats why i steer away, correct me if im wrong about that.

Re: Static Guys Unite!
I don't consider ride tech's systems of the pro-touring nature to be anywhere in the same realm of what people here are doing on their s10s. Some of their systems are in the 5 digit range and use pretty advanced electronic systems to adjust things like ride height, psi, or coil values on the fly. You don't want to be hitting switches as your carving caverns at 70mph. Been a member/lurker for a long time on the pro-touring website, 95% of the people go static. Most keep it simple with quality parts, Some do elaborate swaps, c5 trans axle / IRS for example. While bags can be done, its not in the same essence of the bag systems used on most peoples vehicles looking to lay frame. Also if you notice, most bagged pro-tourers are big dollar resto's, using hybrid bag/shock systems. Not financially feasible for me or most, I can get the same performance for less money and less work. If I where to go bagged, ride tech would be the only company I would consider. I'll keep playing the lotto. |

Re: Static Guys Unite!
A lot of shows class vehicles as Mild, Wild or Radical based on a count of how many modifications you have, I was in Mild class at ITB in 07 but after I got my truck shaved and repainted it put me into Wild in 08.
It's all about attention to detail that will impress a judge, but above all have fun out there guys. I do at least 1 car show a week and I don't always see another mini-truck at the event. No matter what state your truck is currently at get out there and show it off, you may give someone else an idea and/or get a few ideas of your own. |

Re: Static Guys Unite!
I've seen very few trucks that have static drops that are show worthy. One that I can think of off hand is the black 98+ stepside with intro wheels and the charcoal painted interior, that truck is bad ass. Then Wicked's old Blazer too, can't forget that.
If I had my blazer repainted, shaved, and 20's I wouldn't even think about putting it in a show. I'll take my $40 to a nice restaurant. Last edited by ZQ8 Blazer : 10-08-2009 at 03:54 AM. |

i can't wait to do my mazda... I'm planning on a 350/manual swap, laying rocker. And it will perform as good or better then all these static guys that claim a bagged truck couldn't keep up.

im very happy with my static drop! rides so much better than it did when it was stock. i mean i would concider bagging my blazer if it was done for free LOLOL but im much more concerned with getting 2 more pistons in it than getting it bagged.

Re: Static Guys Unite!
The reason static drops ride like sh*t is because people almost always use sh*t components.
Get QA1 coilovers and your truck will ride a hell of alot better, and you can adjust it to make it softer or harder depending on what you like and do. It just takes $450 for the front, rather than $450 for the whole suspension. These are cheap trucks and most static guys don't put a whole lot of money into them, belltech leafs and belltech shocks just aren't going to make the thing ride like a ferrari |

![]() i got about $800-ish in suspension parts all bought new for my truck and for the people that say static trucks ride like shit....they can GTFO cause mine rides amazing! its tighter than stock but smoother...not sure how that works but its the truth. ive never had a dropped truck before and i expected the worse....i was VERY pleased with the end result. |

Re: Static Guys Unite!
My QA1s have 12 levels of shock sensitivity, which goes from boat-soft to the suspension hardly moving when you jump on the hood. autofabracecars.com and talk to Josh, Ithink you can get a pair for the front for under $500. It's the single biggest positive difference mod I have ever done to the car for under $1000. I think any other kind of drop in the front is a HUGE waste, what if it's 1/8" too low/high-you're fvcked. QA1s up front, blocks/leafs, and QA1 shocks in the rear, and it will ride tits for about $1000, and you can tune it to how you like it. About $400 can get you the same drop, but much lower quality parts and no ability to adjust. but yeah, it's the old addage with cars, speed costs money. You can have a racecar, or a smooth cruiser, but if you want both it takes a sh*Tload of money, hence why ferrari and mercedes can make ridiculous cars that both handle and ride well, but it take alot of design/effort/money. That's why no production streetcars go in the 9s yet, and racecars are so much faster than production ones. Last edited by Daveman2 : 10-08-2009 at 08:11 PM. |

Re: Static Guys Unite!
here's my 2 cents. I have a bagged truck and pretty much wish that I didn't waste my money on it. I'd rather have a clean, static dropped, V8 S series, any day over a bagged 4 cylinder S10 (which I have)

Re: Static Guys Unite!
yeah that's what I figured would happen to me, looks are only cool for so long IMO, it's the performance of the vehicle that's at the heart of it. I could have easily bought bags a long time ago with all of the money I have spent on making it perform.

Re: Static Guys Unite!
dressing up a floating axle with new leafs and shocks aren't gonna do a shit ton for improving the lack of traction and stability in the ass end of these trucks. . .i would have invested money on a better suspension for the mine, but it's a 2.2 . . .i decided to leave her be, no reason to waste a ton of money on a turd (a reliable turd, but a turd nonetheless) |

i still want to know if he's got the OP still has the ugly ass interior, because i still think that's the biggest reason his truck doesn't place at shows. . .he may like it, and it is/was different, but that shit was ugly as sin. . .
