Static Guys Unite!

is static uncool now?
I was at a show this weekend and i think there was 2 other trucks that was static besides me..

Im kinda tired of going to shows and being placed in s10 mild with bagged trucks, kinda unfair in a way. I have only placed in 2 shows in my 4 years of showing (atleast 15 shows per year). Not that i built it for shows, but it is my show truck, built my way. anyone else feel hated on because youre static? I dont know if many of you guys go to alot of shows but i do and its a reoccuring trend, I get props from everyone and their brother walkin up to me, then get shafted in judging... unless my truck does actually suck

i mean dont get my wrong but i think a nice static truck is better then a haggard bagged truck anyday.

Re: Static Guys Unite!

Hell yeah! This definatly belongs in OT.

If Bagged looks better then it should win. Simple as that. It takes more hard work to bag a truck then it does to Static.

Im not into the Ohio mini trucker scene but shouldnt they have different classes for Bagged and Static trucks?

Re: Static Guys Unite!

i agree i could have gotten my front bagged but then i would still be rolling on stock rims i think sometimes static looks better. of course my truck was to low for the 20s and they cracked so i should have gotten bags first.

I have the same feelings, but simple bagged trucks can't really compete with a body dropped truck either.

Re: Static Guys Unite!

i remember seeing your truck at the show man and i thought it was sweet. but i will agree there were very few static trucks there compared to the bagged trucks. i too appreciate the look of a clean drop. does that mean i dont like bagged trucks? f*ck no. everyone has their opinion and if you like what ya got man be proud of it. static > bagged

Re: Static Guys Unite!

id say they both have there good points. i really like my static i had it prefect when i had 17s on it it just barely tucked tire looked so clean rode awsome and handled well( for a truck) i do plan on going all out when i do my ls swap though, a yet to be determined link setup, front control arms and full coil overs. i think both are fine if there done right

Re: Static Guys Unite!

bagged trucks are cool in their own right, but i think a simple static drop with a nice motor and some decent wheels goes alot further. as for not placing in a show who cares. you built it for you not joe schmo.

Re: Static Guys Unite!

personally, i'm more of a fan of adjustable static (coilovers) but eh, 3 outta 4 bagged trucks you see at a show seem to be hacked together pieces of shit. so i'm slowly getting out of the whole bagged thing, it just doesn't do shit for me really. sure, i love to get in the middle of shit, and film a drag session, or drag contest at a show, but eh...

Re: Static Guys Unite!

Whats kinda shows are you goin to. Normally around here, or any other major show i've been to in the mini domestic class theres 3 sections street/mild/wild. Normally I see them broke down by suspension. Static=street mild=bagged/juiced wild=bodied

Maybe its your body mods thorwing you in with the bagged trucks?

Re: Static Guys Unite!

You got a good looking truck.

You could try ditching those ugly side mirrors, get a different front bumper and some headlights. Powdercoat the headers and some other peices under the hood and you may have a better chance at placing.

I agree with you though, i think its bs that trucks with bags place more then trucks without bags. Not going to change the way i build my truck though, i'm not trying to win trophies, just trying to enjoy crusing around in it. So its static all the way for me.

I remember when I was static, they would skip me in the show coverage. There would be a line of trucks and when they got to mine they would skip over it and continue taking pictures of the bagged trucks

Re: Static Guys Unite!

I'm static...going lower this spring hopefully.

I'd love to bag...but there is so much involved; Money, time, skills, money, repair kits, patience...none of which I have right now. haha
And I'm not about to spend a few thousand on parts just to pay a shop a few more thousand to put it on when they themselves dont know what to do, I'm not sure any of the shops in my area have done bagged minis...

Re: Static Guys Unite!

My truck is static with dropped spindles & 2" coils front, Extreme springs & 2" blocks in back. It rides well, absolutely no tire wear issues, goes straight down the road & rides very well (except large bumps). Did not cost me an arm & leg, no leaks, no problems. And I can return it to stock & sell it if I need to.

eh... my mazda is only static cause i'm working towards bagging it. My entire list of drop parts on my mazda consists of drop blocks... and i'm lowering it more soon (at the price of free.99).

I like i slammed static, but its only till I'm ready to bag/body drop it.

This.

Static rides like shit, the only thing I will ride static is a slammed car on coilovers since my Jetta rides nice on them and it's slammed.

I'm going and staying static. My truck is going to be more of a pro-touring build, bags don't work for that.... Personally I was never a fan of bags, but every now and then I get the hankering to mess with it. But not enough to make me jump to the dark side...

bags can work really well to take corners it all depends on how you build it.You need to have a good air management system that can control your bags when you cornered hard.there are corvettes that have air bags and they do good in cornering it's just the matter of having a good system that can control it.I know that air ride technogies have that ride pro e system and accuair has a good one to.

sorry buttttt i cant agree with that.

my silverado rides pretty damn good.. will ride like a dream when i buy some king shocks from what i hear

hell if you think about it.. front of my truck has 2" drop spindle(doesnt change ride), cut one coil off(rode the same to me when i took it around the neighborhood), the rear has a flip kit and shackles(doesnt change ride) so theres no reason it shouldnt ride like stock.
