I was just wonering how well do these s10's and sonoma's do in the snow? Do you just throw some sand bags in the bed and it works or what?

Re: Snow
as far as weight, it seems to me like it depends on the tires, i know with my tires any weight in the bed and it does worst, others pile in a few hundred lbs and do alot better.. there a few other threads, search...

Re: Snow
when I had my 2wd s-10 I use to put weight in the bed and it seemed to help a little. The last winter I had it I got some snow tires(winterforces I believe, I also studded them) and didn't run any weight and It did fairly well in the snow. If I had another 2wd I'd buy snow tires in a heartbeat.

Re: Snow
I am hoping they do good in the snow, we are expecting 250" this year. I am gonna throw some studded tires on the back and a few bags of sand in the bed. Only thing I have to remember is the truck is only 2wd, so I can't screw around in it too much. I am use to having a 4wd 3/4t Diesel with mud tires on it. I need to go buy my self a tow strap and also a se of chains to keep in the truck for extreme conditions.

Re: Snow
ran some sandbags in the bed for the first time last year. . .honestly, i didn't notice much difference, but it was cheap and i didn't notice alot of difference in fuel economy. . .more than likely i'll get some more this winter

Re: Snow
my 2nd gen. sucks ass in the snow......i run p255-60r15s all the way around and i remember one of me and brian's(orangesonoma) phone calls and he told me that skinnier tires perform better in the snow on these trucks.......
i used to run 70lb sand bags.....2 are not enough,4 is too much....3 is the magic number......now i use 2 semi brake drums(100lbs each) and it really helps and they don't slide around......you need to make sure the weight stays over the axle,if they slide back against the gate it will swing around every turn you make........ |

Re: Snow
Skinnier tires work good not only on these trucks but all trucks, the skinnier tire with dig down and bit , a wider tire with just compact the snow and ride on top of it. I had 265/75/16 on my 3/4t diesel and they did not dig to well, but the only time I used 4wd was when the plow was on the front, if the plow wasnt it would onlyt be put in to take off from a stop or if I got stuck. 4wd does not really help you once you get moving usually I would slip it back into 2wd once I got up to about 20mph. Re: Snow
Sometimes I'll put 100 pounds in the back, but I don't really notice that much of a difference in handling. I've found that experience > traction.
