I've been 'trimming' (not full shaving) since high school. Just get a set of real hair clippers (Wahl is my brand of choice), don't bother with those beard trimmer pieces of crap.

The beard trimmers usually have a lot smaller blades than the hair trimmers and don't cut as smoothly from my experiences. I even got a nice beard trimmer once to actually use on my face and it sucked ass. Maybe my hair is just too coarse for those things.
