Possible trip to Minneapolis. What to do?
I am going to Chicago and Milwaukee at the end of the month and I am considering heading to Minneapolis as well.
Anybody live or been there? What is there to do and see? I like museums, older architecture/buildings, etc. Is it worth spending a couple days in? Can I get around without a car? I would be taking the train there. I've found a hostel near downtown I would probably stay at. I'm sure some members live there. I think The Griff does. Any help? |

Re: Possible trip to Minneapolis. What to do?
Minneapolis is alright to come check out. Nothing super amazing worthwhile that you HAVE TO SEE while you're here.
The Mill City Museum would suit your fancy for museum. http://www.millcitymuseum.org/ the bus system here is good, so a car wouldn't be necessary, just got to know what buses go where. Nicollet Mall is pretty cool, there is always the obligatory Mall of America to see (which is easy to get to via the light rail system) 1st Avenue might have a band playing there that you might be interested in. The venue itself is pretty historic. Uptown is where all the trendy kids like to hang out, but there are some neat restaurants and bars over there. |

Mall of America is cool, even when you're not buying anything. The last 3 times I have been there I haven't spent anything, well, unless I got food. It's just a fun place to walk around and see the people.
I haven't hung out in the downtown Minneapolis area very much like 00xtremeninja probably has, I live about 30 mins out. |

Re: Possible trip to Minneapolis. What to do?
Dowtowns the Bees Knees! I'd hit up mill city as well maybe take a stroll down by the river there are tons of signs and stuff that tell parts of history of the good ol MPLS! also you can catch a bus downtown and head over to St. Paul and hit up the Science Museum of Minnesota I believe there is an exhibit there now that is the only sunken pirate ship ever recovered..... most def worth a trip to see. While at the science museum walk a couple blocks over off of 7th st and hit up Coesetta's. They have IMO the best pizza. In order to get around call (612)373-3333 its the number to metro transit give em a jingle tell them the intersection you are at, and where you wanna go and they will tell you how to get there. If its late at night hit up Metrotransit.org. If you want some durbin poison shoot me a PM.......

Re: Possible trip to Minneapolis. What to do?
science museum is the shit, but expensive. i liked their king tut exhibit they had. Minneapolis at night is all about the bars and nightlife, so if you are into that then there are plenty of places to go. if not, there isn't too much to see/do.
Target Field is pretty sweet for outdoor baseball. but no games going on at the end of the month. |

Omni theatre at the science museum is worth it.
Mall of amerikka, light rail and busses to get around. If you can make first Saturday in April at the www.automotorplex.com you won't be dissapointed either.

Re: Possible trip to Minneapolis. What to do?
I agree. I was there a year or two ago to watch Daniel Tosh and some other comedians do stand up, and we stopped by the Mall of America while there. It is much bigger then any shopping mall I have ever been to, and was neat to walk around. I think besides food, my wife and I didn't buy anything either. I might have gotten my son something while I was there, but I can't remember for sure. |

Re: Possible trip to Minneapolis. What to do?
Go to the 5/8's club, or matt's and get a juicy lucy. MAtt's is a dive barm and i don't like their burger, but it's the original. 5/8's club is better imo. You can't come to MPLS and not get a juicy lucy.
Cars & Coffee in Chanhassen at the begninning of the month is pretty awesome. There's tons of sweet bars, and great eats here in the twin cities, ranging from bbq, to Thai food, to European cuisine. Gastov's is an awesome place to check out, as is the shout house piano bar. Science museum is very cool, but spendy. If you're here on the weekend, make sure to check out Alary's bar in Saint Paul, after 7:00pm, has the most entertaining staff of any bar in the twin cities. there's so much shit to do around downtown it's rediculous. You might as well go to the mall too, and ride a roller coaster, or the log ride, just to say you've done it. They've also got an aquarium inside the mall as well. Shit, I could go on and on. What do you like to do? Are you looking to just party? drink? Sight see? Eat? |

Re: Possible trip to Minneapolis. What to do?
Any idea when you're coming up here in may? There's a few shows around town here that month. Including a huge roll in, in hasitngs, which is actually about 45mins south of the cities, but it's packed with well over 850-1000 every other saturday night. ![]() ![]() ![]()

Re: Possible trip to Minneapolis. What to do?
and FWIW, I personally hate driving through Minneapolis, the drivers in the city suck, the roads are confusing, and people are rude. I actually avoid going into the cities as much as possible. I'm about a half an hour south. I never said there wasn't a lot of cool shit by anymeans, it's just not my scene is all.

Re: Possible trip to Minneapolis. What to do?
http://www.5-8club.com/ I went to both 5-8 and Matt's for the first time this year. I thought Matt's was the better one, it is a total hole in the wall though which makes it pretty cool to be such a popular place. |

Re: Possible trip to Minneapolis. What to do?
I think thats old when i was there like a month or two ago there where signs all over the joint saying that they where going to stop offering differant cheeses........ Maybe they changed there mind???? Anyways if ya got the cash hit up Fogo De Chao Its a Brazilian steak house... all you can eat plus they bring that shit to you on a sword and when your done and want more flip your card and the nice fellas with the goofy pants come a running with multiple swords full of differant meats. if ya go around noonish its cheaper 20-30 bucks or so....... p.s. dont go there for drinks trust me.

Fogo De Chao is a national chain. No reason to go to the one in MPLS.
