Re: Old School Mini-Truck Trends

For those who still don't get it... imagine an "Avalanche" with the backseat folded down, and then imagine there's NO rear window... okay, now put a camper shell on top of it... that's a walk-through.

Re: Old School Mini-Truck Trends

Well, most of my truck showing days were back in the "Old Skool" here is my LUV I still have

and my Blazer I built shortly after and sold a few years later.

My buddies 84 toy

and his 83 S10. we made an inbed rollbar setup out of exhaust tubing!

and my bros 92 dime

Man those were fun times, IMO minitruckin is really stale nowdays, doesnt seem like much different can be done now.

Yeah, mine are in the cab with me... I don't use them anymore since one of the bulbs is out, but I'd like to get them going again... I still think they look pretty sweet, when they're tucked away, and all you see is the warm glow.

Re: Old School Mini-Truck Trends

Damn, this brings back some memories. lol

I had a lot of the mods mentioned here.
panoramic mirror(rear view the width of windshield)
targa top
neon colors
scallops
walk thru
snug top
15x8 Cragar drag-lites on a '87 Toyota pk-up
'77 Toyota with a stepside conversion, that was done when new.
tilt beds
side mirrors mount high on the A pillar

I had a '80 Subaru Brat that I ran the wheels backwards(inside out) on the rear, to look like wide wheels. That was an old VW trick.

And I like seeing tandam axle trucks, to me it's still cool lookin'.

Just click on my sig pic for my webpage, the LUV still looks like that right now (except the drivers door, see bottom of LUV page), has been sitting for the last 10 years and I am hoping to start rebuilding it this winter if I can finally get my life to settle down.

An old friend of mine had a truck JUST LIKE that one!... same color, and everything. It ran the 15x8(or 10) "Tri-Star" Spoke Wheels, and it was "juiced" in the front, runnin 3 switches, and "bumpin" 2 18" Subs in the bed. They sat on top of something so you could see them sittinig behind the drivers, and passengers heads. lol

No actually for the wheels in the pic. They're corvette rally wheels. I have the center caps and the beauty rings here in the house.

If I didnt allready have the cabover project truck in the works i might consider making something out of this one. Ive allways wanted to make a hopper and this one would be perfect for that. The guy i got it from got it in north carolina and then i picked it up here in virginia. it has no evidence of ever having any hydros in the front.

Re: Old School Mini-Truck Trends

I like it. Kinda wish I could find one of the old trucks like that. I would yank the camper shell off.
I remember guys that had walls of 15" speakers in the bed. Loud booming base.

I have to disagree. It just takes a few people to start building something different and more will try it. I remember when everyone was building trucks for 18s and 20s a select few went "retro" with painted 15" wheels.
Now more are people are doing it.

Re: Old School Mini-Truck Trends

I am not seeing your point, back when trucks were being built to handle bigger wheels, that was new and never done before, painting stock size wheels isnt something new and different, I did it to my blazer pictured above back in the early 90's. I meant stale by I havent seen anything "innovative" recently, I am still waiting for that new mod that has never been thought of yet. (and praying it isnt anything like Lambo door fad)

Re: Old School Mini-Truck Trends

for sale locally on craigslist....

http://baltimore.craigslist.org/cto/860787643.html
This is my 86 chevy blazer lowered all the way around the rite way. There is one fender that needs to be painted i backed into it with my motorcycle trailer , I replace the fender with a new one not used but never got around to painting it.It starts and runs but does need a tune up because its been sitting for 2 years. It has always been garaged and covered. It has a great on gas 2.8 fuel injected v6 motor not the big 4.3 you see in most cases. It has ac, power windows, power locks, targa top roof, white leather trimmed in purple with matching speaker box that holds 2 15 inch subs, 15x6 wheels on the front and 15x10`s on the back. i dont have much time to play with it anymore so i am letting her go. i will consider trade for a nice street bike...i have more pics if needed......cash price is nego.

Sorry I misunderstood. But my question is how big can we go? Whats old will someday be new again. Thus is the way of the world.

I can't imagine what can be done that hasn't been done before. Sectioned, chopped top, suicide doors, rolling 18s(all that will fit) walk through, dohc v8 swap, front end swap, bed swap.
Those are just some of the ideas I would like to see in a build. But all have been done. Even the lambo doors craze was just a comeback.

Since they don't sell minitruck in America anymore we wont have an influx of new rides to get new ideas from.
So were do we go from here? I don't have the answers but I can't wait to see it.
Jump ahead to the year 2057 to see a frail, bald 80year old named blackls1.
Flipping through the futures minitruck mag and talking to my grandkids about how cool it was to see Luis and Keegan drag wrenches during the I85 drag way back in 2008.

Re: Old School Mini-Truck Trends

Here's my old 1991 Toyota circa '98 or '99 I had owned it for a few years by this time. This is the first truck I owned that I customized in any way. Cranked torsions, blocks in the rear, molded in roll pan, frenched antenna, 14" wheels, side mirrors. I also did some under hood mods and that truck was actually pretty quick. Got to love the 22RE motor.

I miss that truck and should have never sold it.

Re: Old School Mini-Truck Trends

I still love camper shells and I prefer windows. My 86 S10 wound up with one after I hit a deer and got insurance money. I had a shell on my 98 Sonoma that my dad now has. I loved mini trucks in the mid-late 80's. I just threw out all my old Mini Truckin mags earlier this year when I was cleaning out my office. LOTS of old school stuff in there since most were from the early 90's.

You can make your own zig zag antenna easily by bending it yourself. A tube bender would be best but I believe I did mine in a bench vice then spray painted it.

There's a Ratical Targa top kit BRAND NEW on ebay right now for a 1st gen S10/Blazer if anyone's interested. I'd love to buy it but don't have a first gen since my 86 was too rusty and got taken to the scrap yard about 3 weeks ago. Sad to see my first mini go.

Re: Old School Mini-Truck Trends

Man, hate to bring an old thread up, but just read this one and brought back so good feelings. Use to be an installer back in the 90's. I remember working on a Mini s10 with cap. I put 2 15 Pro punch in a V box where the back window used to be. 1000 watts RMS to each. Put 9 12's in his brothers Mustang where the back seat used to be.

My first lower s10 had the Deep dish Hammers. I ran 215/50/15 tires on them. subs in the bed the hole 9. I miss that truck.
