Re: new truck
Overall I'm content with it, though I am unsatisfied with little things here and there.
I wish I had the 3rd door. Wish I had a more modern dash (though I plan on changing that) Wish I had a more tunable engine (by computer) Wish I had the newer rear bumper I am glad that I have one of the most powerful 4.3s and i get 20-23 MPG all city driving. Very happy that since I have a 95, I was able to switch over Camaro seats with no mods to the brackets. Had I known what I know now i may have waited a little longer to get a later 2nd gen, though what I have isn't TOO bad. |

Re: new truck
why dont you just buy my 97?
but personally.. i would like a 95-97 x-cab 4.3/5spd ( mostly for reliability/longevity) for economy- 98+ 2.2 5 spd reg cab I'd say an almost MUST for 2wd trucks is zq8 package and 4wd trucks is zr2 But even with this being said, i have over 210k on my truck, it's had 2 transmission put in it, it runs absolutely amazing, i get 25mpg with a 4.3/auto and the only time the truck has left me stranded was when the fuel pump died on the side of the expressway going through downtown chicago and on a serious note, if you buy mine i got some other items i can drop in too |

Re: new truck
if you don't mind can you tell me how to change my headlamp fluid?
im torn on a blazer or a pick up. also how well do the 2.2s hold up as far as mileage and reliability? and the same with 4.3s,im a little concerned that you had to replace the trans twice. |

Re: new truck
well i had the stock one rebuilt at 140k.. it was slipping when we bought the truck. lasted until may last year, when on my way back from ridetech one day it started making funny noises, basically fried the trans, so we swapped it for an 80k mile junkyard trans that has been going strong and doesn't show any signs of giving out anytime soon. 4.3's just from experience are pretty die hard, especially when you dont beat on them. form when i was looking up 2.2 trucks it seemed 150k was the normal life for one, most go to 200k but seemed like generally they need some sort of attention internally before that
i would definitely stay away from an x-cab 2.2 auto truck |

My ass 2.2's only last 150k. Maybe before it needs a timing chain and tensioner, that's about it.

Re: new truck
ive got a 98 ex cab 4.3 auto 2wd s10. ive had it for a year now i like it. its a great truck there are little things id change here and there. but i would say id buy another one if this one was totaled. if you want ex cab deff get one with a 3rd door i wish i had.
i was in the same boat you are now i totaled my 91 s10 4.3 and started looking i wanted another 1st gen but ended up with my 2nd gen. dont get me wrong i love my 98 but id give it up if i could have my 91 back problems and all. |

Re: new truck
If you don't mind the lack of interior space, go with that blue ZQ8 in that CL ad. If you want space AND luxury, go with a 2000 Jimmy Diamond Edition:

2WD it is. If I still have it in a couple months, it's gonna be about 10" higher and 8" wider.

Re: new truck
Personally, I would ditch the idea of going with a second gen; and go find yourself a super clean/rust free first gen again. You already know that they are simpler (and usually cheaper) to fix if need be. If you haven't seen this thread before it's at least worth a look:

Re: new truck
it might be worth it to you to check the glove box and see if it has the G80 limited slip.
It's just about my favorite feature, right behind the 5-speed transmission. ![]() I used to have a 5-speed reg cab 2wd s10, it didn't have the G80, any time a tire hit a loose surface it'd stop accelerating then kick you in the pants when traction came back. You have to ease off the gas anytime you think a tire is going to loose traction, because if you try to accelerate then you'll just hear some spinning rubber/gravel flying and not go anywhere. My last truck was a 2.2L, a 4.3L with no posi would be really dull without a G80. Especially a 2wd model. |

Re: new truck
Personally, when it comes to second gens, I prefer the 99+. (I dnt care for the way 94-97 mirrors and 95-97 steering wheel were used in the all the 98's I've up close seen.) As far as drivetrain the 4.3 is a good choice, great power, smooth running. An almost definate must I would get is a ZQ8 just because.
I wouldn't change anything about my Noma. My 2.2 has been hella reliable for 179,XXX miles being down right used as a 1500 basically. The only things that needed/were replaced during that time period was the fuel pump and alternator. I'd truthfully prefer my drivetrain over any other factory combination available. I don't understand why people are so against them, but then again half the people I know that hate them with a passion never owned nor worked on one. |

Re: new truck
Here, have both! LOL!
http://elmira.craigslist.org/bar/3136216691.html I would have done a number of things different......if I HAD to do this conversion. But, the main thing would be filling in the entire upper body line all the way around, and NOT using those taillights. |

I'm not a fan of shaved body lines on a square body myself; but that's the only way that orange truck's line would flow better.
