Need Help Picking shop colors....

I am about to put the Hardie up on the front of my shop and need some help picking the colors. The sides and back are done in an antique metal and I want it to look like an old barn. I have picked green and brown for the front. I originally was going to do the hardie in brown and the trim in green, but have started thinking about maybe doing it the other way around. I did a quick sketch in MSPaint to get an idea. The pic shows both color options (white spots are doors)

Brown will look so much better for the majority. Green is just too much, IMO.

Agreed.

Just a thought, though..if you want it to look like an old barn, why not paint it red with white trim? That's the color scheme most barns were painted in the old days.

I've always liked my barns to be red in color.

Re: Need Help Picking shop colors....

When I build my own barn, I'll be painting it red, and it'll be getting a dark gray metal roof... But for the options he's posted, brown is still the best choice.

Re: Need Help Picking shop colors....

I know, I voted for brown. I'm just saying, when I think barn, I think red. That's all we've ever had.

Our shop is tan with green trim, so I voted for the brown/green.

Re: Need Help Picking shop colors....

Honestly, if it were mine I would pick a lighter base color and a darker trim color. Something like a tan, gray, or cream for the main color, and a dark red, blue, or green for the trim color.

The brown would be too brown if it was paint. If it was something like stained wood siding it might look okay.

Re: Need Help Picking shop colors....

just had my house painted last weekend.

i put hardie siding on my garage after i closed it in and put it on my accents around the windows and doors. One of the crews i manage painted it like a dark grey siding with light smoke grey trim, gloss oil black rear/side doors & shutters and a gloss dark red oil front door

here's a couple rainy pics from last night

as for a shop, i'd go with a medium brown trim with dark brown siding. will show very light dirt, and not look tacks as hell

Didn't think about certain colors showing dirt. Good point.
