My neighbor died...

I don't normally post many things regarding this, but I found out a few hours ago that my neighbor died last night.

I hadn't known him but for about 4 or so years, and we weren't really close or anything. But it really bothers me, not sure how to handle it. His wife is blind and they took care of each other. His daughter has been coming back and forth between where she lives and his house quite a bit these passed 2 years. He started to get worse and worse, he would cut his own grass, weed eat and everything. But within the last 2 years or less that stopped and someone would come and cut it for him. His sister, which I think it a little older than him lives across the street from him. I believe he was probably like 70 ish.

I believe he had skin cancer, and had a few places removed before. About 6 months ago his daughter was telling us that the places that were removed wouldn't stop bleeding and wouldn't clot or heal. Whatever, and that he had to sleep sitting in a chair and was in pain

It's just sad and hopefully the rest of his family can take care of his wife and sister. (also to some who have known situations in the passed, this isn't the bad neighbor.) (too bad tho.) It's sad how the good people always have health problems and the horrible people get by just fine.

Re: My neighbor died...

Hopefully his family was smart and had him on a good health insurance plan so they don't end up in a nest full of problems now that he's gone. My prayers and condolences to the family

This guy has the right mind-set. Death isnt all about sorrow and lonesomeness. He has no pain. And has the biggest smile on his face you can imagine right now.

When I started reading this post, I was wondering if it was that guy.

What has happened here is very unfortunate. At least he got to live a good many years on this planet. My brother died a year and a half ago at age 28. To be honest, though, I think he's better off where he is now. He had a seizure disorder and he was progressively getting worse as he got older, so he may very well have been spared some really bad days. If your neighbor was in a lot of pain, he may have been spared some really bad days as well.

My condolences to his family. May he rest in peace.

Well, I think a large portion of that is the fact that each time people around you die, you lose a chunk of the "I'm invincible" factor. You'll probably notice that it hits closer and closer and closer to home each time. The older you get, the more real it gets.

Re: My neighbor died...

When I first saw the thread title and who wrote it I thought, "didn't he hate his neighbor?" Sorry to hear you aren't free of the crappy one yet. That is a shame how the old man and his wife took care of each other. She's not gonna be doing well without him at all, no matter how bad shape he was in. Real sad.

When people are together like that for a LONG time, it isnt too long after one of them passes away, the other soon follows. They cant live without each other and the other one usually just gives up or becomes depressed.

Re: My neighbor died...

I was thinking it was the evil neighbor, so my first thought was "How much did you get away with, before the family came in and looted?"

Re: My neighbor died...

That's pretty crazy! My neighbor across the street from me lived in the house with his dad who was sick and bedridden. So the son was basically taking care of his dad but he was a little slow. He used to be a stuntman I guess and was in a couple movies. But long story short; the son had a heart attack and died a couple weeks ago. Everyone thought it was the dad that finally passed but it was the son. Sad stuff...

Re: My neighbor died...

How would you go about asking his daughter about purchasing the property? Not anytime soon, but when do you think is okay? How do you word it without giving an impression that you are only interested in the property?

We want to purchase it, because my grandparents were thinking about moving closer to us and they'd build a new house there.

Also to keep the evil neighbor from purchasing it, because it'd go down hill very quickly then.

Re: My neighbor died...

I'd ask her just as you said in your last two sentences. If you tell her you want to buy it for your grandparents to move closer, I don't think she will say no to that.

It was already discussed a few years ago with my neighbor directly that died, that my grandparents would purchase it if he ever decided to move.

Re: My neighbor died...

That's a tough break..But look a the bright side. We're all
gonna punch the same ticket. I've lost a lot of my family
over the last 10 years and it doesn't get any easier, let me
tell ya. My days are closer to done than not. Not much I
can do about it except run with it.

I just hate to see or read where a person had to go
through a lot of pain and misery before the dark.
It would be so much better if all just went to sleep and
didn't bother to wake up, but that unfortunately is NOT
how the human body works in so many instances..

Just give it some time, and when you think it's right, tell the daughter that you and her late father had talked about that and you'd like to continue such a discussion with her.
