Re: Mowing the grass.
Do you have a gallon/2gallon sprayer? I'd reccomend getting one, then get yourself a jug of 2-4-d herbicide (Fleet farm, ace hardware, or Tractor Supply/Farm supply stores should have some). Mix with water accordingly, and spot spray for weeds, and it will work wonders. that's what I do anyhow.
You can even just get a small spray bottle, but just mix it accordingly, and use that to spot spray while mowing, or just walking through. Since I have a big yard, I do it about once every other week. If you do so, make sure you give it at least 24hours of dry time, for it to soak in. It won't harm your grass either, unless it was mixed improperly. It works for clover as well. I have a big jug I use, as well as a little dollar store sprayer with solution that I keep on my rider. |

Re: Mowing the grass.
i have always done either the spray that hooks to the hose once a year (June) or grab a big bottle of the Ortho Weed-B-Gone (green jug) and spot treated that way. My yard isn't massive so a mixing and spraying system isn't too necessary, but this is the first lawn where I am getting on a fert schedule and shit now.

Re: Mowing the grass.
My husqvarna died today so we went out and got one of those Zero Turn mowers with the steering wheels today but we had to get a commercial version because our yard is too big. I love the new mower, it makes me enjoy mowing again.

Re: Mowing the grass.
We moved to a new place, and I mowed the lawn here for the first time.
I borrowed my parents riding mower and rode around the yard drinking a beer, and finished off with a 2-stroke weed-eater. I love the smell of that gasoline. Then sat on the porch with an ice cream cone. ----------- This new house is by the airport, when I say by, I mean I can see the runway from my porch, some people refuse to live here because of the noise, but watching the planes touchdown and take off isn't something you get to see everyday- well I guess I do now. |

Re: Mowing the grass.
you get used to the noise anyways, right? after a while its all just background noise that doesn't effect you much, if at all. I grew up next to the race track and whenever I visit my parents and hear the races going it makes me miss the noise, especially the weekend that the NHRA is in town. Nothing like waking up to a top fuel/funny/jet car ![]() and on topic for the thread, wtf weed blocker out there works worth a shit? we built a small fire pit in the back yard and layed gravel over the weed blocker but there were still a lot of weeds growing through the mat. I swear it just gave the weeds something to hang on to when I was trying to pull them up

I used to live next to a baseball field, they always watered it late at night. The sound of those old sprinklers puts me right to sleep |

Re: Mowing the grass.
looks nice. Nothing makes me happier then seeing a nice lawn with nice stripes. Im waiting on my weed killer for yard in mail this week. Has trimec in it. When I worked for Lawn Dr we had concetrated Trimec and it was a very nice product with excellent results.

Re: Mowing the grass.
I need to go get some pictures of my progress on my lawn, been working on it for the last 3 days now, discovering that while 12 1/2 acres is great for no neighbors, it is murder on the back, especially when the riding mower can only go so many places, the rest is done with a good old weedwacker...

Re: Mowing the grass.
Vande, sounds like you need to turn those areas that you can't get to with the riding mower into; planters, gardens, decks or cement. Save that back, you may need it later. LOL. Plus if I had 12.5 acres, there's no way I'd be a "carport mechanic". Hello tough shed, 4+ car, with a "backyard buddy" lift, radiant heated slab floor, oh, oh, oh, I think I just lost my cookies.

Re: Mowing the grass.
I forgot to update that a while ago, when I moved to Cali from Vegas, the first place I rented had a 2 car garage, and the house we bought also has a 2 car garage. I have been looking into a workshop, but it is just so expensive, and most of the property is hill side, so will have to have grading done before I could drop a new building on it.

Re: Mowing the grass.
![]() Just did core aeration the other day and added some lime to bring to PH up. Also added some ironite..Hopefully in about another week it will really take off...I also can't wait til they are done building houses. There's no use in washing the vehicles or pressure washing the concrete cause this red clay is bitch.

Re: Mowing the grass.
I hate all yard work.I let my yard get out of control, lol. worst part is my neighbor's yard is the nicest in our circle so it makes mine look even worse in comparison!!
Yesterday I had another forum member come over to help me with my bushes.the deal was he helps me I'd give him a set of wheels and tires ![]() ![]() After several failed attempts to keep the trimmer running,I gave up after about 30min and just gave him the wheels and tires and said thanks for showing up,lol. My neighbor's son walked up to me and asked what happened.I told him I'm going to hire people that can do this.he volenteered so we haggled for a while I ended up giving him $40 and a few hours later. ![]() Throwing money at your problems FTW!! he's putting down wood chips today and planting flowers for another $40

Re: Mowing the grass.
I mow my parents yard once a week, so dad gave me a 2-stroke leaf blower, he said it slowly died on him and wouldn't start again- and it sat for 6 years.
He changed the sparkplug, but when I pulled it out it was black. It's black inside the cylinder too, I held my thumb over the ignition plug while pulling the start and it still zapped me (tried my thumb over the sparkplug too), and seems like it still has compression. Maybe not enough spark- or fuel system is all clogged up... I'm going to tear it apart/clean and see if I can get it running. then Pocket bike build??

Had some rough times in June and July but with some attention it's making a comeback...I can't wait to overseed with better quality bermuda and buy a reel mower!

Re: Mowing the grass.
I've always appreciated a nice lawn. At my previous house, I was pretty picky and spent a lot of time on it. With the location I'm at now, I've gotten the lawn to a point where it is very robust and I only do the bare minimum. However, I just recently found out that my neighbor has been competing with me for 12 years and has finally gotten his lawn within a click of mine. He's being cocky about it. Well, he was until I found out it was a competition and put some time in my lawn. I put him back in his place. It's like racing a guy and not telling them you're racing them.

Re: Mowing the grass.
Gotcha...Yeah with the new seed I'm going with next year I hope to get a finer darker looking yard. LaPrima or Yukon Bermuda should do well with this common bermuda and the reel mower with make a better cut. The reel mower is 2 more seasons away though I still have some more leveling to do.
