Re: MMA Thread

Marty, the knee is great man. This is a tournament I'll be fighting in, so I could fight 3 times in one night.

Secondly, that punch had more power than it looked like and i hit him right on the button.

Re: MMA Thread

If anyone else is a muay Thai fighter or Kickboxer, this is a really good article on shin conditioning. It also talks about the dangers of MRSA (Staph) infection and how to avoid it, which is something all fighters and people training for fun should do.

Here is an excerpt:
Quote: Originally Posted by Dr. Johnny Benjamin
"In Thailand the most common way for the fighters to condition their legs involves kicking heavy bags. They begin their conditioning regimen by kicking soft-filled bags that progressively become harder until the bags are finally filled with sand – and then rocks and sand. Once fighters can kick a bag filled with that combination of rocks and sand, they can blast away at an opponent's leg with little risk of injury." Ancient martial artists clearly understood and passed to their students a principle that has taken modern medicine many years to describe. The principle master Hahn has learned and practices is what orthopedic surgeons call Wolfe's Law. This simply states bone placed under repetitive stress for enough time will grow and harden to better withstand the stress. It's the body's attempt to adapt to a changing environment.

NASA learned this during the early days of manned space flight. That's why modern astronauts jog on a treadmill and ride a stationary bike while on the shuttle or space station. In a weightless environment, the bones need to be repetitively stressed so as to not lose calcium content and become brittle leaving them susceptible to fracture upon their return to Earth. Early astronauts actually suffered fractures by merely standing and walking after long missions.

If the lack of stress causes bones to lose calcium and become brittle, then it stands to reason that adding repetitive stress will strengthen bone. And if we employ the if-a-little-is-good-then-a-whole-lot-must-be-better philosophy, we get to traditional martial arts. Master Hahn's time-honored techniques of slowly, progressively increasing the reps and hardness of the bag being kicked forces the bones and soft tissues to adapt. The bone actually gets thicker and harder (denser). The ligaments and tendons get stronger. The skin gets tougher. The martial artist feels less or is able to tolerate more pain.

Is there a downside? You bet. Injuries can include cuts, abrasions, skin infections, stress fractures, ligament and tendon injury and broken bones. The most concerning potential problem is applying this technique to the growing bones of very young children.

Fortunately, children are very resilient but not indestructible. As we've discussed before, growing bones have growth plates that do not tolerate injury well. Repetitive trauma from kicking that bag all day can cause the growth plate to close early and stunt growth.

Re: MMA Thread

Yeah, I had a friend that got it through unclean habits with harnesses at his fire department. It was something like that. Almost ate a hole to his stomach. Shit is no joke. The conditioning of the shins reminds me of the training that I had seen on one of the history channel Martial Arts series. Where the guys punch into hot coals over and over, to eventually form almost steel-like shells over their fists. Pretty crazy.

Anyone who doesn't think that Brock has the capability to beat Randy is fooling themselves.

Anyone who thinks Randy doesn't have the smarts to beat Brock are also fooling themselves.

This'll be a good fight.

Haha. It did kinda die out. We get to see what happens to Crazy ass Junie. Watching the Liddel/Silva rerun. I agree with the comment Imperial. I am looking for Couture to pull it out. But man, Brock is a beast. And with proper training and will power, he definitely has a chance.

Re: MMA Thread

Yeah, he looked probably the best I have seen him. He will have to finish Bisping or seriously have to fvck him up to have a chance. I definitely wouldn't leave it in the hands of the judges for a Brit show. Not after the Matt Hammil decision. They keep in mind what happened to Kimbo, they don't want their star to fall also.

WHAT THAT FVCK WAS LEBEN DOING!?!?!?! He had Bisping back peddling like 3 times, then just dropped his hands and waiving Bisping back to him. WTF. I think he could have had him if he would have taken off after him. Damn

Getting picked apart unfortunately. I can't believe Bisping actually admitted counterpunching to a decision was his game plan.

Re: MMA Thread

that jardine/vera fight was boring as hell, or was i the only one that thinks that?. . .wasn't too thrilled with the bisping/leban fight either. . .leban started off methodically in the first round, and i think he should have stayed that way. . .he threw good leg kicks and landed a couple clean punches. . .but after bisping bloodied his nose, he went back to just loading up for the left and he left bisping every opportunity to hit him. . .i honestly don't think bisping was ever in any trouble in that fight, that "back peddling" wasn't because he was rocked, it was to get a better chance to counter leban IMO. . .

best fight tonight was the lytle/taylor fight by far. . .

Re: MMA Thread

too bad, I was pulling for leben to win that fight. He looked good until he got hit a few times then he just seemed to go for the big left punch. I hoped bisping would stand his ground and fight but he just kept running away, but at least he didn't act like an arrogant prick after the fight

Re: MMA Thread

Yeah, he was def getting picked apart. I got a laugh out of Bisping saying that also. Which is also why the fight was pretty uneventful. Guess it worked though.
Oh and the back peddling that I was talking about, was when Leben caught him with some loaded left hooks. It was enough to rock him a bit. Not that it hurt Bisping, but it was enough to give Leben a chance to go on a flurry. Instead of just dropping his arms, and waving Bisping back.

He said something along the lines of he got a bonus to keep the fight standing; which was construed as a payoff in order to favor Kimbo, which is very illegal as that's rigging a fight. He later clarified that it's along the same lines as a "KO of the night" bonus like the UFC hands out, but spin doctors had already done the damage.

It's a shame; their last few events have been very decent. Cung Le vs. Anderson Silva, come on nooowwwww

Hopefully I'll have some pictures up tonight. I'm in a fraternity and the new pledges have to get all the active brothers signatures for their pledge paddles. They have to do something with the brothers, so I was nominated to lockerbox them and hopefully get some good pictures doing so lol.

Wow. I didn't catch that. THat is crazy. Spin doctors or not, it sounds exactly like what he "MEANT" to say. As a pay off to give Kimbo the edge. He was probably trying to kind of cover his comments. Well, who knows. Crazy though, Dana White called it almost to a T.

Elite XC = UFC. I can't believe Silva walked around for 3 rounds then see Cote fall to a fake old injury. Even Joe Rogan play into it. You cannot see any muscle tissue or even a knee cap pop. Just pure tissue ripple from him jumping around on his right leg. I'm calling this one another Kimbo vs. Seth fight.

You're a fvcking moron.... Coming from a guy who did the same thing to his ACL and went through my knee randomly popping out of place like that almost everyday until I had surgery, I can assure you he was not faking that injury.

Secondly, too bad I didn't put any money on Junior Dos Santos for real. I bet through Centsports.com and bet him to win, as I knew he had sick hands. Lo and behold, he knocks out Werdum in the first round and I am sick to my stomach. $100 would have netted me a sick amount of cash.

Agree 100% on the moron part - What, you expect your ****ing leg to fall off if it pops out of place? Damn shame his knee gave; it looked like Silva was having a little trouble getting a beat on him - that or he was just toying with him longer than usual.

Dos Santos - holy sheeeiiitt. I was kind of bummed Werdum was next in line for a shot, his fights haven't been that impressive from what I recall (except him slapping Arvlovski, that was epic) - guess I won't have to worry about it now!

Koshcheck and Alves - Fight of the night. How Kos can recover so goddamned fast from getting his head ripped off on several occasions is amazing.

Sherk's hands are getting better - good to see him back and willing to swing as opposed to just LnP; I even thought his lay'n'pray victories weren't gimmies; that's a guy who will work for his win and it's always nice to see that.
