Re: Lets see your models

damn u do have some skills. my uncle used to build these and win contests when he was a kid. said he used to use a paint brush single bistle as a valve stem then trim it.

what are you using for spark plug wires? they seem a tad big for the scale but look good none the less

Re: Lets see your models

Thanks guys. Just a small hobby. Mostly a winter thing. I've been putting these things together since I was about 5 but they've all been broken lol. I only put 1 or 2 together a year nowadays. I've never put any in a contest before. Might try sometime. As far as patience, I don't have much. When I get aggravated I have to walk away. As far as the plug wires I just use inside phone wire. The tan stuff with the red, green, black, and yellow wires in it. For th 49' Murc. I'm thinking about getting some custom parts off the internet. Some of that stuff you could wrap $200 or more in one model.

Here are some of my builds and projects. This is what I do for a living actually. I make my own masters and do all of my own mold making and casting.

Is That Blue Beetle a Monogram original from the mid '60s... I have an unbuilt one from '66 and a built-up that's a much later issue but built as close to the original as possible. Will try and photograph later today and post.
I think the Beetle had a different set of front wheels but I may be wrong... Nice pieces

Here's my Blue Beetle... I built this in the '80s. Have been a modeler since the '50s and love the old Monogram rods and the AMT 3 in 1s
Wish my photography skills were better sorry for the blurryness

Thanks Vince! I built mine from a MINT original issue Blue Beetle kit. The only thing I did was swap out the front wheels for matching Americans I had replated from the Lil Coffin kit. The original decals were shot so I had a friend (who makes aftermarket decals) reproduce them for me from scans I had taken of the originals. I built the model in one week.........actually the last model I've had time to finish......two years ago. If you click on my links you'll see all of my other traditional builds/projects and resin.

Re: Lets see your models

Thanks, Ed, for the reply... I certainly do give you credit for that Beetle assembly... I do not have the heart to tear into a mint 45-plus year old unbuilt, but have enjoyed restoring many original built-ups over the last 20 years. Will certainly check out your link... Vince out!

Re: Lets see your models

Sure thing! I don't buy them not to build 'em! LOL! I had a second mint Blue Beetle kit that I did let go for $100 or $125 a couple years back. I just had to enjoy building one of them like a kid would have back in the day.

Re: Lets see your models

This is funny because last night I resurrected a model that I never finished or really touched in 5-6 years and I originally started around 2001. I'll post some pics of it tomorrow sometime.

Re: Lets see your models

Where is a good online resource to buy models and supplies? I live nearly 2 hours from the nearest hobby shop to me, and I'm not going to make a special trip for it.

Re: Lets see your models

You guys have some made skills! I'm still trying to decide the best way to glue my exhaust manifolds on so that they line up right with the rest of the exhaust. Heres a quick shot with my cell phone since I forgot my real camera. '70 Chevelle SS.

Re: Lets see your models

I've got them all from a collector that was selling off 500+ kits. I got my three first gens and 1 of the extremes from him plus a bunch of other other stuff like mid 90's chevy and ford full sizes. The other extreme I did a trade with someone and I heard the syclones are being discountined so they are still out there for now. I got 3 lol.

models are really cool for ppl who dont have the shop space or tools. Basically how i got the inspiration to start building real vehicles. Just plastic was easier and cheaper lol
