Re: LETS see the tattoos

Told ya...

New one...

This is my take on the old school heart and dagger, with a touch of the "I wear my heart on my sleeve" cliche. I had my artist freehand it all so its one of a kind. You can see, or at least in person, the letter K on the blade for my wife Kristen.

My calves...

Also had these drawn up. To me it has to do with the balance in life. One calf is the lucky 7 and right-side-up horseshoe, the other is the unlucky 13 and upside-down horseshoe. The dice are just filler, and the Snake Eyes are no bueno to most. I wanted them to look totally different.

And my back...

This was my first tattoo. I got it several years ago, before everyone had nautical stars. I didn't take great care of it and its solid fill so it didn't take well and faded over time. I plan to add on and have it refreshed soon.

Re: LETS see the tattoos

that arm piece took 13 hours?! And, i'm sorry, but he's not a very good artist... that hardly looks like a heart at all. Looks like an Excalibur tribute with some hoses sticking out of the rock... Only 2 of my tat's are not custom drawn, the flying eye and the jack daniels label. The spark plug/fire, anchors, skull, etc... are all custom drawn on the spot by the artists doing the work.

edit: and for a time reference, the spark plug was drawn on my arm and done in a high guesstimate from start of drawing to finished tattoo in 6 hrs

you definitely misunderstood... i was saying earlier that i was getting new ink in 13 hours. the tattoo was drawn up ahead of time after i talked to him on the phone. i was only in the chair about an hour and a half. the heart has a lot of shading in it, which i asked for. as for the shape, its pretty accurate for the anatomy book that we had on hand.

i also shrunk it down quite a bit. i was going larger but decided i wanted a short sleeve shirt to hide it completely because i want to have that option.

is it perfect? no, i've never seen a tattoo that was in my opinion.

is it what i wanted? yes.

maybe its just what it is. as long as you're happy with it... You're the only one that has to look at it everyday.

Re: LETS see the tattoos

Ok, here's a question. For those of you with neck and hand tattoos, what do you do for a living? I'm sleeved, have chest pieces, rib cage done, one on the back of my neck but still covereable, etc. All of mine are able to be hidden for job interviews. I want to do my hands bad, but I'm worried about being discriminated against when I go for interviews. Have you found it harder to find a job? I'm a machine mechanic/machinist, in my field of work I would think it shouldn't matter, but I know for a fact that I was turned down for one job because my tattoos were showing.

although it isnt right that they didnt hire you, it is reality. alot of the Presidents/CEO's of todays business's and companies have the old school way of thought that tattoos are tabu, and for criminals and all that other old stereotypical garbage. if you have second thoughts about doing it because you are worried it will affect your job then the best thing to do is not do it.

im in a similar situation with my job....my left arm is sleeved and i work in corporate america in a professional office setting and cannot wear short sleeve shirts. at the company golf outings im wearing long sleeves, as well as any other company function where higher ups and my bosses will be present.

it sucks, but it is reality and i get to be myself outside of work and wear tshirts and i enjoy the artwork, so that is the payoff for having to hide it at work.

maybe you could wear some rubber gloves or something? coverup makeup? dunno....just trying to throw out suggestions if you insist on doing it.

I actually was gonna get them done as soon as I'm able to (long story but I was on a medicine that doesn't allow me to get inked for 6 months after I stop taking it), and I've worked for the same company for the past 9 years. I always just assumed I'd always work here, and it would never be a problem. Then a few weeks ago I'm told they are closing the plant I work in, and in Nov I will be out on my ass. I'm mostly concerned with interviews, as I don't want to be turned down based solely on my artwork. Once hired, I would be willing to cover them, wear gloves, etc. I don't insist on getting them done, obviously life will go on if I don't, but it's something I want to have. I have plenty of other areas to get done, but someday I do want the hands/neck done.
I'm wondering if anyone has had bad experiences with interviews, or even work giving them a hard time.

well why not wait till you get the job, and bring it up to your boss and ask what they would think of that, and if it would be a problem. explain you would be willing to cover them up to preserve the company image, but didnt want to jeopardize a great opportunity with a great company just for some artwork. just be super nice about it and see where it goes.

I'm a welder/fabricator, i don't really think i have a problem with having tattoo's. Though i don't have anything on my hand's/neck YET, but i deffinately plan on it in the future. I just HATE it when people have hardly any tattoo's, but have their neck or hands done. It seems like such a cry for attention to me.

i was working for a semi small company repairing pumps, hand wrenches etc.. started last week at BP as a pipefitter apprentice. alot of people have tattoos out there, but im the first to see(minus my dad) that has hands or neck done.. my dad has his hands, and some wings go onto his neck. i kinda went about it "wrong" to some people, including my dad, but they are just looking out for my future. i got my knuckles done when i was 18 and just got fired from my job. IMO if i cant have tattoos where i want, then i dont want to work there.

i to think thats dumb to an extent. i used to get alot of shit for only really having tattoos on my lower arms, and not the upper part. but i never wear sleeveless shirts so i want to get tattoos i can see. but ive gotten started on both uppers. going to finish my other lower arm, then work up and finish neck..

got more work done tonite.. cover up of a gay ass airbag.. i prolly posted pics of the outline/some shading from a while ago. you can still see it, going to go back once more and finish the flowers, and add a little more brown and to hide a lil more of the airbag, a little line work touch up.. im way happy with it over a ugly ass airbag lulz..

pics suck.. shows the airbag more than you can actually see in person.. and cant see yellow in pics

Re: LETS see the tattoos

yeah, my first tat was the von dutch flying eye on my inner fore arm. I too went by "if i'm going to pay for it, i want it to be seen". BUT I will never get anything intentionally offensive in a normally visible spot for job reasons.

edit: however! I didn't get my first tat till i was like 22 i think.

Re: LETS see the tattoos

Here's some shitty cell pics of a little bit of my ink. The right sleeve is all hotrod shit. Mooneyes, some flying eyes, a front engine dragster, maltese cross, giant rat fink holding a switch box, etc. The left is mostly religious art (not religious, just like the art). Kinda tough to take pics of my arms by myself, but you get the point. I have a drawing done for my right hand, it's a gasser mask that drag racers wore in the 60's, with a skull wearing it. I think I'm gonna wait to get it done til I know for sure it's not gonna cause me to be unemployed for life!

Re: LETS see the tattoos

I got my first tattoo when I was 17... Tattoo shop was beside the bar we were drinking in... So it was more of a bet .. I went in and said can you put this on my arm and pointed to my shirt...

My giant dragon/koi sleave might be a bit of over kill for a cover up but go big or go home.. lol.. I also am now having to wear long sleave shirts in the summer.. at work to hide my art.. but what can you do.. you have to keep working..

Some great looking tattoos in here..

See I was the complete opposite I didn't start getting work done until i was 24 and got my chest then bicept and went down from there.... I see where you would want to see your work every one gets tattooed for a diffrent reason... I started for a couple reasons the first was because I always wanted one and all my friends where covered I was into piercings at the time, the second was for a self percieved image and to cover a medical condition. Like every one says they are very addicting! as of now my chest is complete both arms are sleeved my knuckles are done and I have an appointement next week to out line my back...
As for my hands that to me is sacred I have been in sales for years and plan to be for the rest of my life it is going to be very hard if ever that i do the top of my hands, you would be surprised how many people do not even notice your knuckles LOL

Btw Cover up looks awesome!

Yeah, the cover up definitely looks good. I have a cover up on my upper arm, and it bugs me that I still know it's there. Nobody else notices it, but I know.

Re: LETS see the tattoos

I would love to get my forearms done, but I know how higher end companys look at people like that. I work at UPS so upper management and tattoos are a no go. Plus I'm not down for wearing long sleeves in a warehouse in the prime of summer.

Re: LETS see the tattoos

I just got turned down by a department for having "visible tattoo's". The clerk told me that their town passed a law saying that police cannot have any below the elbow or on their neck. I'm like "Isn't that discrimination?". Some ****ing people man... maybe you guys have an ordinance; you didn't pass a law though.

Depending on when that law was made, could of been decades ago and hasn't been changed.

uh, no, it's not. not hiring you because of the color of your skin is discrimination. you cant choose what color your skin is at birth. you can however choose to get ink. you chose to get tattoos, now you have to deal with the fact that many companies wont hire people with visible tattoos.

I'll take it that that's directed at me.

I have my reasons for not having the rest of my body covered before going and tattooing my throat and hands.
