IRS Dually - discuss

Josh over at Killin' It Kustoms is building this IRS dually. He'll be out at Turkey Drag if any of you are going. Definitely going to turn some heads! I'm sure Josh will chime in and give some more details, but here are the basics: rear setup consists of a built ford 8.8 cobra rear end, custom halfshafts, 04 front wheel 2500hd hubs, .75" plasma cam cut spindles(goingcustom), all brake setup from 04, all 1.5x.250 dom for control arms, heims up top for adjustability, pollys everywhere else, custom sway bar and fox 2.0 resi shocks. Front and rear camber is the same.

Shock mounts are trimmed down in the next pic

Re: IRS Dually - discuss

Will be sweet, but look weird laid out if it has any rear neg camber. Not sure how it would pull either. but its diffenitely outside of the box.

Re: IRS Dually - discuss

Neat idea, but I think there is going to be a lot of stress on that rear setup any time that there would be any sort of dynamic camber change such as chassis roll going around a corner. The wider profile of the dual setup will have a lot of leverage on that suspension, and it will not want to roll like a single wheel will. Either way though it looks good and he is definately using the right stuff to hold up to it, just have to see how it all works out. If he isnt out autocrossing the thing he should probably be fine lol. Props for doing something different though!

Re: IRS Dually - discuss

It has negative camber in the rear, can see it in the 3rd pic; same camber as the front wheels. Outside rear wheel comes off the ground when laid out. Pretty sure I remember him saying the guy wasn't planing on towing with it, just building something different.

Re: IRS Dually - discuss

Looks like the outside tires are either off the ground or close. I'm sorry but it's sort of meh with that camber.

Re: IRS Dually - discuss

Cool idea for sure. Work looks good. Didn't he have a extra wide bed made for this truck too so he could run true duals?

Not sure on the drivability of it though since the geometry looks somewhat off IIRC from what it should be in a IRS. Been a long time since ive looked into the specifics on it. Instance center of the arms looks to be on the outer side of the vehicle.

Re: IRS Dually - discuss

This is josh from killin it, to address some questions and comments.

It will not tow anything. Brett the owner just wants a crazy head turner. Everything is super built thow.

On the instant center. Its close the the hub of the opposite wheel. Only reason was distance, and the travel and the camver angles i wanted to acheive. Yes its not 100% accurate. I still lack building tierods and i may move the upper mount still. Just depends. Plus the geometry is exactly the same as the front.

Im glad to see positive feedback. I didn mean any of that to come off blunt or rude. I just figured id chime in.

The wide bed was for my 07 and its to run 24's with a stock width frame.

Only reason we put camner in is because its pretty sick to have the outside wheel lift when laid...

Looking good man, I really like the idea. Negative camber on a dually is awesome..

Re: IRS Dually - discuss

I like it and I have big respect for anyone that can and does build a custom IRS in any truck much less a dually that has custom built flat plate hubs. This thing is sick. Amazing work!

Do you have any pics of the hubs by theirselves? I'd like to see them.

I think it's pretty sweet. The picture from the rear reminds me of a scissor lift.

Re: IRS Dually - discuss

These are from the day I cut em out, I don't have any pics of them with everything welded/bolted to them. Think Josh might or I'll snag some from his FB and post em on here.

0 bevel through 3/4"

doesn't actually sit all the way down like this, but tolerances were right on.

and just because it's a badass pic!

Re: IRS Dually - discuss

The pig pulling in the last picture almost looked like one that was owned by Kyle Bertsche from Severed. But on second thought i think his was a chevy.

The dually the thread is about will be sick.
