i ended up redoing mine w/ 2.2.1. i think something messed up when i first done it. now its running fine, no problems or lock ups. and somehow, resetting my router, the iphone finally picked up its signal.

i have a 1g 16gb touch and a 2g 8gb iphone. both jailbroken.

Dynolicous works mint, but you need to run calibration on your phone, and you need to have it mounted somewhere. you cant just let it flop around. I have a belkin FM transmitter for my stereo, plugs into the cigarette lighter and the ipod sits in it. I made a few passes with my fathers 4runner and the numbers weer pretty acurate to me.. Measured 189bhp and a max speed of 59.8 mph. I didnt go a full 1/4 mile, but i do know i was looking at the speedo when i let off, and it read 60. so .2mph off is pretty accurate in my book.

I got that slam bag battery and the truck slider on mine, My boy drew's friend made em. From what drew was sayin hell make whatever you want for like a $5 donation or some shit. Ill have to see if he can get me some info on how to contact him or whatever.. Theres also a bagged lincoln slider which is pretty cool.

download and run quickpwn. right now it only works on 1g touchs. the jailbreak for the 2g hasn't been released yet. I personally recommend before jailbreaking, restore the with ituens, but dont sync. Then jailbreak, Then sync. Kind of a failsafe to keep it from creating any problems that might make the ipod/iphone unstable.

This thread made me build up the courage to jailbreak mine. Not for fear but I didn't see the point. I would see all the stuff you guys would do with yours and thought to myself that most of those don't apply to me for what I use it for. I just did and WOW! Downloading pretty much any app from the app store for free through installous is worth it alone.

Anyway, there was a program that you would use that would allow you to place folders as icons on the home page. I'd like to bundle all of my games into one folder, apps I rarely use on another etc.. anyone know the name?

I would say jailbreaking is very fool proof by now. Back with the 1st gen iphones i used to read a lot more about them getting bricked by the old ways of jailbreaking.

its called categories. i cant remember if i got it thru cydia or installer. Probably cydia. i have it on my touch im not a huge fan of it tho. and it can be really buggy. it works for what it is, but you lose all the animation on the springboard. its almost like it shows an image of a bunch of icons. i dono its hard to explain.

re: *iOfficial* iPhone and iPod touch thread

i bricked my touch first time i tried to jailbreak, but all i did was put it into DFU mode, and restore it. It ended up being that i didnt download the right version of quickpwn. got the right version and its ok now. Alltho im planning on restoring it again. i used the BETA version of quickpwn for 2.2.1 and its a little buggy. they released the offical version recently, so im gonna go thru and re-do it. i just need to go thru and write down all my sources and what not. cus im not lookin forward to spending the day resyncing and adding my sources and downloading my apps.

Do you have the 2.2 firmware on your phone? if the program is failing to open from your computer, maybe try downloading it from another one of the mirrors.

The jailbreak link i posted was for 2.2 so that is probaby why you are having some problems. I think there is a jailbreak for 2.2.1 now, its probably somewhere on www.quickpwn.com

yeah it does that a lot. Im pretty sure that the way it works is somebody bought the app originally and they modified it to remove the security and then it is hosted somewhere else now where we get it from. Some of them must be removed or no longer hosted.

Installous gives you access to a lot of the the apps from the app store for free, even ones that you normally need to pay for.

re: *iOfficial* iPhone and iPod touch thread

I stilll have my 1st gen 8gb iphone. I don't have a need to spen $199.00
for the G3.....The speaker on the G3 IS MUCH BETTER though! I just did the
"stick a pin through the speaker holes" "mod" to mine and it's pretty
loud now. I like the aluminum backing on the 1st gen alot better than the curved black back on the g3.

also I did upgrade to 2.2.1 today and it seems to be working fine. no lock ups.
I'm still wondering about jailbreaking my phone. what is the advantage of it other than making it look diffrent?

re: *iOfficial* iPhone and iPod touch thread

I found an app that is awesome for "free" texts... atleast for yourself. (i'm sure there are other apps that do the same, but this one is easy and fast, works great!!)

all you need to do is have a gmail account. you put your email address, and password in the settings... then send a text to any persons phone number, as long as they respond to that first text, it goes to your email, but it shows up in the app as if a regular text would, no checking emails or anything stupid.. I got it from the hackulous installous.

i have had this for the last few weeks. At first it was working great, then latly it has been doing a very poor job of showing people online. It is pretty cool though when it works.

And i.tv has finally been updated so it quits crashing after 5 seconds! it's so nice to have the tv listings on me all the time.

basically 2nd gen has a more curved back, and an internal speaker. few other ltitle bonus features. But imo, its not worth it if you cant jailbreak it. you got so much more functionality from having it jailbroken. when they offically release a jailbreak for the 2nd gens ill think about selling my 1g 16gigfor a 2g 32. but for now i have no complaints about the 1g at all.
