Re: I'M STILL LIFTING!!!! Anyone else? (Pics Included)

Well.................... i tried deadlift lastnight. first time in about a year. got 225 pretty easy. tried 315...... didn't happen. i tried my deadlifts after my squats, so that may have hurt me a little.

But i did get 255. Not bad i think. Like i said before, i should be able to get 315+ after my 3 months of working out and getting my strength back.

I was kinda imbarassed at the gym went from 225 deadlifted it 4-5 times changed weighs to 315 and ........huh....... couldn't get it, and these guys were watching me the whole time. felt kinda stupid, but hey you gotta try.

i did have a good laugh at them though. All of them were really big...........from the waist up! lol

There was one guy that was about 275-295lbs, and 6'5" or so. His top look like the old Arnold he wa so big and ripped, probably 23-24 inch arms. but his legs looked around 13-14 inches or so! lol
all of them were like that! i was rolling!

Re: I'M STILL LIFTING!!!! Anyone else? (Pics Included)

Nice try though

But, you don't have to lift heavy and try to "impress" us on the forum. The guys from Westside Barbell lift like 60% of their max a lot for only 3 reps and 8 sets (kind of like speed work almost). So if they can bench 500 pounds, they are only doing about 300 and some of them weigh that much. It doesn't look THAT impressive, but its a science that works to build strength.

But like you said, once you start deadlifting again, you'll be back to where you were

Re: I'M STILL LIFTING!!!! Anyone else? (Pics Included)

man i wish i knew anything about eating right and training

i eat alot of crap... maybe not alot but a decent amount
i'm 6' 220lbs and i find that i easily gain muscle
problem is i dont want to gain muscle I need to lose weight in the midsection. I really dont have any fat anywhere else(other then between my ears) and would like to lose what i have. A year and a half ago i topped out at 260lbs, got a physical job and went down to the 220-230lbs mark 6-8 months later. Problem is i'm stuck there and don't exercise cause i dont know how to eat right. I figure why do one and not the other.... any suggestions on how to choose the right diet? I wont be going to the gym no matter what but have no problem jogging or whatever.

if needed i can get some of my measurements and pics.. no joking I am a thick guy muscle wise but need to get rid of my gut and love handles. I also feel like most of my weight is in my lower body, i have very muscler legs.

like i said I'm willing to measure up and pic up if someone is willing to help me. If anyone can make sense of my rambling and would like to offer some suggestions it would be greatly appreciated

Re: I'M STILL LIFTING!!!! Anyone else? (Pics Included)

I got home an hour or so from the gym again. feeling great. Something I started doing periodically, as my goal is to lose the man boobs, and gut/lovehandles, is I have started doing a shitload of pushups. I am being very strict as to what I eat.

7:00 am-ish Breakfast: cereal, reduced fat milke (1 glass)

9:30 am Snack: something small, like some plain nuts or one of those natures valley bars.

12:00 pm: One of the following; (1) turkey sammich on wheat, lil bit of mustard, no cheese, or (1) south beach diet that contains 2 wraps and a sugar free jello, or soup. and not all that loaded down crap, I'm talking simple like chicken noodle or something.

3:00 pm: small snack, again something small as before

5:30 pm: dinner, varies as to where I'm at or what I'm doing, or if I'm at the gym. I eat plain grilled chicken with greens plain a lot.

I also drink 1 gallon of water a day. I use no supplements or anything like that, nor do I use anything before or after the workout. I started at 220, down to 207ish, back up to 215ish, but less fat, more muscle. I see definition in my upper arms.

Any suggestions?

Re: I'M STILL LIFTING!!!! Anyone else? (Pics Included)

well i started eating like a mad man on monday.

i eat 5 eggs and 3 pieces of toast for breakfast
snack slimfast and meal bar etc....
lunch 5oz of steak, 2 cups fried rice with eggs etc... in it, 1 cup of steamed broccolli in light cheese sauce

after lunch snack same as before.

work out 1-1 1/2 hours
then i drink a XXX shake from GNC 770 calories, 50 grams protein, 124 grams of carbs

dinner pasta, meat sauce, salad or about the same as i had for lunch, tonight i had 8oz of steak, 6oz of chicken, steamed broccolli, boiled cabbage, and miso soup. (me and my girl ate at a local japanese place.)

before bed i eat cottage cheese and fruit.

total of around 4000cals, 400g carbs, 200g protein

so i am doing good!

i hope at this rate to be at 160lbs around christmas!

Edit::::

still taking Animal Pak and Animal Stack Daily

Also drinking around 1 gallon of water a day, and a gallon of milk every 2 days or so.

Re: I'M STILL LIFTING!!!! Anyone else? (Pics Included)

i wouldn't push the dead lift like you did if not doing it for a year.. And that animal stack is amazing... ive seen my best gains with that.
As long as were posting diets./ Routine

7:00am 1cup coffee
7:15-8:15 cardio
8:20 : 5 egg whites, 1/2 cup Ezekiel cereal, 3 pieces of Ezekiel bread.
11:20: 1 cup wild rice 6-8oz steak, banana
12:00-1:00 pre-workout shake, then weights.(isolate 1 body part a day)post workout protein shake.
2:20 1 1/2 cups wild rice, 1 can tuna. vegetable & fruit supplement.
5:20 chicken breast, 2 slices of ezekiel toast, 1 cup steamed spinnage
8:20 turkey breast, 1/2 cup ezekiel cereal.

Id like to give at least 8 hrs before doing weights to allow my gh levels to recover but with school its kind of hard.

Re: I'M STILL LIFTING!!!! Anyone else? (Pics Included)

hey guys make sure you add atleast 1 egg yolk to your egg whites. the proteins in the whites and yellows can do be properly digested without the other. so if you eat just the yellow, or just the whites, you won't digest them unless you add atleast 1 of the other in.

alittle info that some might not know...... so i have heard.

Not to nitpick, bro, but 400g of carbs and 200g of protein is about 2400 calories. You'd need about 177g of fat for your calories to get up to 4k.

So start eating some natural or organic peanut butter

I'm only stating this because if you don't see the gains that you think you should be getting and you get down on yourself, it might be because of the miscalculation on the diet. I used to wonder why I never grew and thought it was my training or not getting the best supplements, but it was because my calorie intake wasn't enough.

I was just going to get to you

So if I'm getting this right, you are losing fat everywhere but your stomach, correct?

This is pretty common for guys (like myself). Do you do ab work at all? If not, I would do some ab work everyday or every other day, but DO NOT go all out on the exercises. Say if you can a weighted ab exercise of, say, 50 pounds and you can do 10 good reps and the 11th rep you can get by cheating. Do 5 sets of 4-5 reps with that weight. Don't kill yourself on ab work, but hit them frequently and when your finished with the 5 sets of 5 reps, you shouldn't be burned out or tired.

Or, if you want to get really serious about ab strength, get a DVD called Beyond Crunches by Pavel Tsatsouline:

http://www.dragondoor.com/v90.html

I haven't watched the DVD myself, but have heard from many people (not including the good reviews) that the DVD is good. I have two of his DVDs and he can be kind of boring (he is Russian and looks serious all the time), but the techniques are priceless!

rofl, I figured i might have jumped the gun haha.

Ya, I do a lil bit, but I was lost as to a good technique. I'm going to check out that dvd asap. they also have a free motion machine that I was thinking of seeing if I could use to benifit me at the gym as well, but I'm pretty much figuring the old fashioned way or even with the actual ab machine is going to be the best factor

Re: I'M STILL LIFTING!!!! Anyone else? (Pics Included)

Is my ghetto routine doing me any good? When I was going to college I was working out regularly at the campus gym. After leaving college about a year ago, I have no money for a gym membership so I work out at home. This is what I do in a small studio apartment. Anyone have any new ideas or advice for at home workouts?

day 1
push ups 25x4 wearing a backpack with a 25 pound plate in it
decline pushups 25x2 (no extra weight)
barbell press (bench press style with two dumbells) 15x3 50lbs each

day 2
bicep curls with a curl bar 12x3 50, 60, then 70 lbs
dumbell curls 12x3 30 lbs
shoulder shrugs 25x3 70 lbs
reverse fore arm curls 12x3 20lbs

day 3
skull crushers 15x3 50 lbs
tricep dips 25x3
pull ups 3 sets, as many as I can do each time
bent over rows (i belive) 20x3 50 lbs

the other two days I do calf raises wearing a weighted backpack and a few sits ups. Never workout on the weekends. I've gotten a little smaller and I never feel sore the next day like I did working out at the gym. I figure anything is better than nothing but it is still disappointing.

That was big in early 2000. More recent studies have shown you can still properly digest them but the reason many people still eat a few yolks is because it contains, iron , vitamin A B, and half of the eggs protein. Another misconception is that eggs are high in bad fats. Out of the roughly 6g's of fat only 1.5 or so g's are saturated fats. People usually add those because if you give your self some ldl's and exercise the next result will give you lower ldl's, I also read that you want to lose some weight, I recommend drinking a cup of coffee on an empty stomach in the morning and doing cardio. your glucose levels will be down and you will get energy from fats being pushed though oxidative phosphorylation. The idea behind this is minimizing glucose being run through glycolysis and the coffee helps your body produce the enzyme lipase which immobilizes fatty acids.

Pavel Tsatsouline, the guy that made the DVD I told DroppedSS about, drinks coffee throughout the day and has maybe a steak or two at night. He isn't huge, but he's pretty damn lean. He kind of follows a type of diet that's called The Warrior Diet. It is based around eating very little throughout the day (just eating fruits and some nuts) and then at night, you eat whatever you want (try to eat healthy, but you can have your ice cream or even a piece of pizza once in a while).

I honestly would eat this way for the rest of my life if I didn't want to gain as much size as possible. Well, right now I'm dropping weight to get lean, but in about a month, it's on!

The Warrior Diet gives you freedom in a way. You don't always have to carry food with you. If you have a physical job and for lunch you have a big meal, you are very likely to feel like crap or tired. Its good to eat little food during the day as you work hard, then when you get home, eat big! And you will lose weight! There are other things to the diet, but that is the main idea.

Drinking black tea, green tea, or coffee on an empty stomach then hitting cardio first thing in the morning is a great way to lose bodyfat. Once my weight stalls, this is what I'm doing.

Sorry, I missed this one.

Since you are limited to a small workout area at your house, I think you have a good program going.

I don't see any leg exercises though If you can knock off 20+ bodyweight squats with superb form, try doing pistols. Here is a website explaining them:

http://www.powerathletesmag.com/pages/pistols.htm

About halfway down, they show how to do them in a door way to get used to them. This will help out with overall balance and flexibility in the leg.

As for everything else, I would try and do more sets and less reps. Since you can't use really heavy weights, try doing 10 sets of 5 reps with something that is your 10 rep max. When you lift weights, try thinking of it as a practice rather than busting your ass until failure. If a powerlifter can bench 500 pounds, he rarely throws 405 on the bar and maxes out by doing 10 reps. They cycle their sets and reps. They may do 285 pounds for 8 sets of 3 reps. They may be able to do more, but they stop. It's all a science

Leg exercises? I walk around all day I find leg and stomach exercises extremely frustrating and annoying and I don't do them nearly as often as I should. Thanks for the advice about the low reps, high sets. I'll give it a try for a while and see how it feels.

I see women that walk around all day and their ass is flat. How can that be? It's because walking doesn't really work the leg muscles as much as squats or pistols (single legged squats).

If you run up and down stairs a lot at your job or something, then you might be fine. But ATG squats (Ass To Grass) with a slight pause in the bottom position will work wonders for your legs and keep you flexible and limber. Just remember to keep your chest up high and look ahead and slightly upward (not at the ceiling though).

True about the leg workouts.

but you do need to do them! they are the building block to a great body! if you work your legs out more you will see a BIG difference in the upper body also!

I get to do legs Friday! yeahhh......

doing squats
leg press
leg extentions
lying leg curls
calf raises on machine
then calf raises with free weights

before that though i am going to do alot of my core. did some good dead lifts yesterday so my lower back is kicking today! feels good though!

Re: I'M STILL LIFTING!!!! Anyone else? (Pics Included)

doing some looking online and trying to figure out how to make my protein drink better. i found this.... now any of you that make protein drinks and like to add peanut butter know that you have to have a mixer to mix the peanut butter up in the shake.

well not anymore!

http://beprepared.com/product.asp_Q_...utter+ Powder

I plan on getting a can to try. it says it needs to soak for 20min for the proteins to reactivate. which is not a problem in a shake.

Yep thats how i start every morning,, at 6:50 ... my friend does this but he uses milk in his coffee. DON'T DO THAT. Milk is high in sugar defeating the whole purpose of doing this on an empty stomach.

Re: I'M STILL LIFTING!!!! Anyone else? (Pics Included)

nice i almost competed in the emerald classic up in Seattle just to see what it was like. but didn't lean out to what i wanted to be at. So i think i might train for another comp soon. The only thing that sucks is this whole year i will be pretty much studying for the MCATS. Well good luck with any future comps.

Looks interesting! I like the natural and the organic peanut butters that are available because they are more runny. If they get too hard when in the fridge, I leave them in the cabinet until they are runny again.

Ugh! I don't think I could do that. I mean, I can feel the difference between doing cardio with something in my stomach and doing cardio on an empty stomach. I prefer the latter.

Are you going to get a trainer or a nutritionist to help you get into contest shape? You look pretty ripped already from the pics of you in Florida, but just wondering.

As for "bodybuilding", I've kind of gone away from it. I don't mind working hard and being dedicated towards something, but there is no reason to kill myself for something if the rewards aren't that great. It would be like busting your ass for 8 hours a day and making $10 per day. I still lift hard and smart, but I don't think about being on the stage of the Mr. Olympia. I think its awesome that you want to compete and I wish the best of you, but don't let it take over your life and become narcassistic

I've lost another 7 pounds (I'm 183) in the past 10 days (according to my post on July 30th in the "Junk Food Detox" thread saying I was 190) . Before that, I lost 10 pounds in about 10 days also (according to the same thread). Also, I don't do morning cardio (yet)! I think a lot of it has to do with eating somewhat light during the day (mostly proteins, nuts, and veggies) and at night I'll have some crackers and more fruits. Between meals during the day, I'll have about 10-15g of BCAAs to help spare muscle. On the weekends, I will have a big cheat meal. I wanted to stop eating junk food (the reason I started the junk food detox thread), but I swear it helps me lose weight! Maybe its the surge of calories I get and it boosts my metabolism. I'm not sure. Its crazy!

Re: I'M STILL LIFTING!!!! Anyone else? (Pics Included)

probably not. i am gonna try it on my own and see what i can do. i don't plan to dehydrate myself when i compete either. you can hurt yourself by doing that, but i will need to have really low body fat % to be competitive.

and i don't think i could ever get TO into bodybuilding i am just to small and i can't afford to spend more time and money then i already do on something i enjoy. and if i could i probably woudn't enjoy it anymore.

well monday i weighed myself at 140 almost even. This morning i weighed in at 142. So i am right on schedule. 2 pounds a week for three months is what i did before. So with that being said, i should be able to hit 150 by the end of this month, and maybe 160 by the end of oct. i may have to eat more cals after 150 though, we will see.

also i took some measurements last night, and i am as big now as i was last year after 6 months of working out, and i can tell where i am gaining my weight at from eating, around my waist...LOL I was right at 28inches 2 weeks ago, last night i was at 29. which i probably haven't gottin an inch bigger, most of it is probably food! lol

Re: I'M STILL LIFTING!!!! Anyone else? (Pics Included)

Sounds good, man

I can't wait until fall! I can actually take advantage of waking up at 5am and eating a nice breakfast and being able to get an extra meal in compared to when I woke up at 7am.

I'm still not sure if I should do a high carb or a high fat diet. If the carbs are clean (like brown rice), it isn't that bad. But with high fat diets, I can scarf down a whole jar of peanut butter in two days, without trying. That's about 1500 calories by itself a day

Re: I'M STILL LIFTING!!!! Anyone else? (Pics Included)

hey house i have a question for you. does eating a meal at say like 1 am and then going to sleep help you gain weight? i mean you're sleeping so it seems like your metabolism would come to a halt right?

Re: I'M STILL LIFTING!!!! Anyone else? (Pics Included)

I think it depends on what you had during the day or how your eating habits are. If you read my previous post above (#138), right now I eat somewhat light during the day and kind of snack at night (apples, crackers, whatever) but I keep losing weight. This is probably because I used to eat a lot and then cut my calories and I keep dropping weight.

Also, your metabolism isn't going to come to a halt by going to sleep. If you want to gain weight, eat whenever you can. I've read where some guys got up at 2am and ate a big meal just to get in their calories.
But once you start gaining more fat than you want (you need to be honest with yourself), then that is when you should try and eat most of your food during the day and then just protein and veggies at night.

I hear ya, bro.

I take Citrucel and also take some supplement that helps cleanse the colon at least once a day. In the future, I'll be taking digestive enzymes and some product like Greens+ (greensplus.com)

Greens first, and red plus are great products. I like to take red plus because when im cutting i like to get a lot of the essential vitamin's from fruits,, but i like to cut out foods that are high on the glycemic index.

Re: I'M STILL LIFTING!!!! Anyone else? (Pics Included)

dude take N.O. XPLODE it is soooooo crazy! it has nitrous in it to dialate ur blood vessels and make your heart beat faster for intensity. then it forces creatine in your muscles and has an added 221 mg of caffeine to give u an xtra boost...so when u walk into the gym my foots already shaking and i cant stop lifting its like i can never put a weight down. does it work?....

i suck at benching ever since i flipped my dirt bike and pulled my shoulder arm and chest and seperated all 3 bones as well. i usually rep 115 lbs. but on n.o. xplode i do 145 easy!
