I would say that the engine heat isnt escaping the engine bay.....which the heat would cause alts to go out. Just cut a hole in the hood to let the heat escape...or just let it burn

Some cars and trucks have a way for heat to escape through the cowl. Not to be a smart ass, but heat rises.

k just went outside to see about the cowl thing ... the only hole in the cowl are the few holes for the plastic rivets and screws ... and the wiper arms and stuff ... no hole through that for heat ... it seems like heat is going up and cant get out ...

well, is this like a good car or a beater? if you dont care if it doesnt look perfect i would loosen up the hood at the hinges and throw some washers in there so the back of the hood is tilted up and let the heat escape that way

Re: I know its not a s10 but need help

well I am kinda thinkin of taken the inner fenders out LOL ... yeah its just the family car ... dont care what it looks like ... if the alt would stop goin out so quick and the timing do right it would be a good truck ... but damn i hate when i go to pop the hood and cant for 10 - 20 minutes depending on how long i drove it ... before i can lift the hood

I dont know if id take the inner fenders out just yet. There is something wrong under there and since its not running hot id check the exhaust manifolds. There might be a heat shield or something missing or may vave a clogged cat or something. And thats whats making the under hood temps crazy

Re: I know its not a s10 but need help

That might have alot to do with it. Id check to see if it turns on or not. That could be what forces the air down to escape

Re: I know its not a s10 but need help

Sounds like you have an electric radiator fan. If you follow the wires you will notice a thermostat sensor that turns the fan/s on/off. Make sure they going on/off when the engine is up to temp.

Another thing is if your hood is bare metal on the inside the heat will naturally radiate through. If it's insulated it will not radiate through as much.

I'd say you should get an accurate reading of your engines coolant temp and make sure it's not running too hot. There are tools that can do this and I've also seen radiator caps with temp readings on them. If you're talking about a ton of heat and your OEM temp gauge is reading normal I would still think something is not right.
