Huge spiders outside....

So every morning before i go to work(230am) i have had to kill a spider that is around the size of a quarter and they are all around our house outside and one or 2 in our basemnet. We went and bought some spray shit that ill spray around the house tomorrow but is there anyway we can prevent the spiders from setting up there own trailer park around our house?

Re: Huge spiders outside....

Call an exterminator. Or just deal with them, they keep the other bugs away.

Re: Huge spiders outside....

I'll have to keep that stuff in mind! I saw one outside last week that (I $hit you not) was as big around as a peach! He was HUGE!!!! I think he was a wolf spider, but I'm no expert. We looked at him a few times, then when I went back outside about an hour later, he was gone! I heard my youngest daughter scream about a "HUGE SPIDER" a couple of hours later, only to find a nickel sized skinny spider just chillin. Oh, well.

Good luck with yours!

Re: Huge spiders outside....

almost every spider is non threatening, but there are a few "brown" ones to watch out for. the recluse are the worse. my old man got bit in his shoe (spider was living there) 5 years ago. still trying o get wound to heal. no crap there either.

keep in mind recluse spiders are just that "recluse" they dont like to be bothered so they hide. most spider are a garden varity and are harmless just a lil scary in thought. Damn movies do that you know.

Re: Huge spiders outside....

I actually just discovered a spider outside my house the other night he was making a web that spanned from my house to my garage... it's not too far but it's still probably 10 to 12 feet. I came out to take a pic of the web the next morning and it was gone. But that same night He was outside building another web... Apparently he builds it at night and takes it down early every morning. I have decided to leave him alone since he is so conciderate. Honestly I really don't mind spiders if nothing else they keep the other bugs down. I mean I'm not going to cuddle up with it and take a nap or anything, but as long as they stay outside and out of my way I have nothing against them.

Here's some pics I was able to get of him.

Re: Huge spiders outside....

we got the ortho home defense max that im going to spray down in the basement. All the spiders around the house look like the one pictures above plus we have one that made a web that is black with little white stripes on its leg.

Does anyone know why this spray and every ther spray says it will kill all spiders EXCEPT black widows and brown recluse?

Re: Huge spiders outside....

I work at a gas station and we have sort of a canopy around the top of the huge window. Anyways the spiders love it up there for some reason. Usually we clean them out near the first of the week with the garden hose but they are back by the next day or so. I decided to bump it up a notch so now I use a small benzene torch and a can of brake cleaner. Kinda cooks them to a crisp and their webs too.

Re: Huge spiders outside....

diesel fuel will run them off pretty good. just get a bean sprayer and run a line around the house right next to the brick. It will last a while too.

Re: Huge spiders outside....

we seen a big spider once put a huge rubber spider next to it and it scared it away. but yeah spray and fire should work. or you could use your shoe or boot to kill em if they arent too big or fast.

Re: Huge spiders outside....

Anyone seen a Camel Spider chasing them yet? I've not here but they'll be around. So many lizards and mice here just attract them. They are like dinner bells just ringing. Biggest one I saw was on my outside stairs. I ran down to get something and remembered my keys and I turned around and the wolf spider was looking at me. Leg span was about 4-5 inches. They grow huge in AZ where there's water and trees. Scared the crap out of me.

Found this spider outside the window of my parents dining room the other day. I have no idea what kind it is... but it makes me itch just looking at it! Is it prego or what?

Re: Huge spiders outside....

Last post looks like an Orb Weaver.

A couple weeks ago I fell asleep on our couch downstairs while watching the TV. Woke up because I felt something on my leg, got up and didn't see or feel anything. Went back to sleep and an hour later was jarred awake by something up near my crotch (no jokes here ) reached down my sweats and pulled out a wolf spider with a leg span of 1 1/2 to 2 inches. It had crawled up inside my pants . I normally don't kill spiders and will catch them and put them outside, but after this episode, if I see them in the house I'll grab a shoe and smash them.

I do have a couple of orb weaver webs on our front porch and don't mess with them as they do help with the bugs.

I lived in the woods when I was growing up and the wolf spiders or traveler spiders (think they were called that) would sometimes get up to 5 or 6 inch leg spans. We always checked our shoe after one came out of my grandmothers size 7 shoe and was almost as big as the shoe. We used to catch them and wasps and put them in jars to see who would win.
