From Indiana to Texas?

A buddy of our friend has come into 50 thousand and after tax its going to be about 35k. I am thinking of possibly moving out there with them, I currently live in indiana going to community college and living with mom and dad. I am 20 years old and have no job and it seems to be hard here to find a job I feel like I have not gotten that far with getting independent. this would be my first time on my own away from family. Does anybody live in texas? Or moved from like Indiana to Texas? tell me a little more about it. Would probalby be going to be living in an apartment or something like that at first and eventually be living out in the country down there. from what i hear everything would be awesome like the jobs and living but i dont that much about texas. Do you think this would be good for me?

I'm from Kokomo IN, and I work in Houston Tx. 6 months out of the year. Its hotter down here year round than IN, gas is usually cheaper, no income taxes, although property taxes are higher.

Re: From Indiana to Texas?

I thought about it and decided i am not going to move I am not really in position to move out just yet that would be a huge leap to soon. I also realized that if i moved my finacial aid that pays for my 4 years of college wouldnt work anymore and it would delay my education. And I think if I moved down there I would get in alot of trouble cus just realized how much of a bad influence my friend is. I think if he moves with his friend down there that it would actually be a good thing for me cus I wont have to be around him anymore.

Holy shit, I'm impressed! You actually thought before acting. Kudos to you for that, especially at your age!

When I left home at age 20, I moved from Florida to Kansas. It's the best move I ever made, and at the same time it was the worst move I ever made. I had some rough years the first few away from home, but it was worth it. Seriously, you made a good decision to just stay put. It's always good to take risks, but weighing the odds (which you did) also puts it into perspective as to how MUCH of risk you're taking, and whether it's actually worth it.

For the record, I like Texas and would have no problem living there, with the exception of south Texas (i.e. El Paso, Corpus Christi or Brownsville). Corpus Christi is a shit hole, and you couldn't pay me enough to live THAT close to Mexico.

El Paso is not in South Texas!! Some of Texas is hot & humid, will other parts Dam hot and dry!! In West Texas you have the dry heat and not to mention the Sand Storms!!!
But you do have to watch for the Dam Yankees that move down here!! Just kidding

Re: From Indiana to Texas?

yeah I am not going to Move. I think our friendship is pretty much over. He is to toxic and comes off too strong. He does to much crazy shit that would get him arrested and shit. he lies alot. He abuses and sell pills and sells weed. He steals the medication at his house and sells it. He Was taken off his parents insurance for being too reckless and getting in a wreck, He also steals and is always wanting to steal shit. And He likes to controll people.

Ah hell...didn't realize that ya'll were gonna be that specific on location. I just figured that since El Paso was on the border it was considered south. I stand corrected.

To the OP: It sounds like you did yourself a favor by not tagging along.

Ive stopped through Texas a few times on my way to a TDY. I went to Houston. The airport sucks but the surronding area seems pretty cool. I wouldn't mind living there.
