Friends car sitting idle for 4 years

My buddy has a 96 eclipse gs that has been sitting for about 4 years. I'm thinking i can buy it from him for pennies on the dollar. Do you guys think it would be worth the effort to get it running again or should i just forget about it. The last time he drove the vehicle, it was having transmission problems.

If he wants more than 100 then its way over priced.... Even if he GIVES it to you, if it needs a bunch of stuff you could easily put more into it than the car is worth.

Re: Friends car sitting idle for 4 years

Pull the 420a and trans out and put in a 4g63!
Then you can rice around...

If you buy it just hope the tranny fix is worth the mpg's.

As fun as that sounds, it's not an option.

Re: Friends car sitting idle for 4 years

i bought one years ago for 100 bucks, only after sinking about 1500 bucks into the "cheap" car i had a nice daily for about 4 years.

either way, if the car is in decent shape and ya can get it to run.. then go for it if thats what you really want. Just dont sink a shit load of money into a beat up old car.

Re: Friends car sitting idle for 4 years

Try and get it started before you actually buy it... Get some fresh gas, oil and simply jump start it.

Re: Friends car sitting idle for 4 years

1st thought after reading the title, who kept puttin in the gas and why didnt they just drive it in stead of letting it idle, seems wasteful........

The trans will be major $ to fix. Keep the seat & the memory, trash the rest.

Re: Friends car sitting idle for 4 years

Buy it if it means that much to you.

But I thought you meant the car was running for 4 years with your title.

Re: Friends car sitting idle for 4 years

here is some food for thought..... 4 years= timing belt is almost guaranteed to need replacement. Remember, its rubber, so time is worse than mileage. If you dont do the work yourself, than that + a trans, ur talking 3000+. And thats besides the point that those cars are junk to begin with. i can go on all day, but i figure that those 2 alone will steer you away
