Well, just a little. Im sure he would have thought this through for a few more days and made it way more efficient but that doesnt matter.

Tonight me and my older brother built a pneumatic can crusher right in the garage. it uses an air cylinder with a 3 way manual valve and took a few hours to build. the equipment came from his work free of charge so that made it even more worth the build. the thing is pretty fun too, from calculations it should have a crushing force of about 160psi. (1.5" cylinder at ~100psi)

heres a few pictures and a video to show it in action. the next plans are to make a lexan hopper above it so you can fill it up instead of doing it 1x1.

the plate does a flex a little, its made out of an angle iron gusset and 3 layers of 16ga sheet metal, it was all we had laying around. and yes it will be painted.

But...area of a 1.5" bore cyl is 1.77 square inches, times that by 100psi..and you will be getting 177lbs of force.

thanks, it was all my brothers idea, my part of the project was the welding. we wait until that catch can gets full and then turn in all of that aluminum to the recylcing place for cash. with these more flattened cans we'll be able to fit more in there.

yes, my family does drink a lot of pop. my neighbor said to do a full can too. maybe when my truck isnt right next to it ill try it.

no, if you are using 100 psi, no matter what bore the cylinder it is, it will have a pressure applied at 100psi.......
