Re: Al Sharpton.....when will it be enough???
they didn't even win, tennessee beat them, but they say that an old man's comment ruined their playoff experience. Funny I would think the buzzer going off at the end of the game and your team losing would ruin it. I don't know if it's been stated in here or not, cause I have been reading through so many of these threads, but I guarantee they didn't even know about the comment until someone told them about it. I seriously doubt that once they did hear it that they were upset or outraged either. Someone probably had to 'tell' them why they should be upset. |

Re: Al Sharpton.....when will it be enough???
I challenge you guys to forget about Al Sharpton or Jesse Jackson for a second, forget about what their intention were, forget about their past, forget about the fact they live off the public eye, trust me there are those in the block community who don’t agree in their ways. Try not to cloud your mind into thinking they are speaking for the entire black community. Once you have forgotten all those items, then lets stop and examine Imus comment.
Since a link was provided to Imus comment, I’m sure we have all click the link at least once. Imus started the conversation about last night woman final basketball. He then proceeded to talk about how ruff and hardcore they looked with tattoos. Then comes the nappy headed ho comment. He then stated the ladies from Tennessee</ST1 lace were cute and related it to some Spike Lee thing. Even Imus co-host knew his comment was not good. Listen to his co-host reaction as soon as Imus said his thing. <O </O![]() Do you consider Imus comments in-sensitive, rude, discourteous, offensive, or disrespectful? Let’s pretend Montel William called the <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comhttp://www.s10forum.com/forum/ /><st1:State w:st=<ST1http://www.s10forum.com/forum/ /><st1:PlaceType w:st=University</st1:PlaceType> of <st1:PlaceName w:st="on">Texas </st1:PlaceName>woman softball team (and I don’t know if such a team exists) “long hair dog smelling bitches”, could that be taken as a racist comment? <O </O![]() This whole Imus situation is a tear drop in a larger bucket. It’s not a moral victory for me or my family and personally I don’t give a rats ase if he was fired or given a promotion. What I do care about is that a person can be driving on the streets of A<st1:country-region w:st="on">merica</ST1 lace </st1:country-region>and for no reason be called a nigga and spit at from another passing motorist. Ask me how I know this, and I’m not old. <O </O![]() What I do find concerning are all the comments that were made in this thread. Some of these comments are coming from young men of similar age group. The same age group who are the thinkers and doers of tomorrow. Last edited by CandiMan : 04-13-2007 at 11:58 PM. |

Re: Al Sharpton.....when will it be enough???
My Problem with the situation is, the girls from Rutgers forgave him. Whether right or wrong, and I feel it was done in a comedic way that backfired, why are other people steping up and not letting these young women speak. I realize that he has a history of these remarks and what not but what dies it do for educating him if you get him fired and he goes away. I wish someone would just shut up Sharpton and Jackson and let the offended people speak instead of these two speaking, so they think. for an entire race.

Re: Al Sharpton.....when will it be enough???
First of all you aren't going to forget about Sharpton's involvement in this because, just as he loves, his face is all over the media. Him and Jesse Jackson ARE speaking for the black community because they have claimed themselves to be black 'leaders'. There's nobody stepping up to oppose them on that level, nobody speaking out and saying that they are not 'leaders' of the black community. If there are people within the black community that do not believe in the same things Sharpton does and do not recognize him as a leader of their community then they need to speak out against him. Let it be known that he does not speak for the entire black community. Sure I have heard a few people being interviewed on the news and saying this same thing, but what the black community needs is some people that really are leaders to step up and straighten out the things that Sharpton is involved in. IMUS: So, I watched the basketball game last night between -- a little bit of Rutgers and Tennessee, the women's final. <o></o> </st1:state><o></o> |

Re: Al Sharpton.....when will it be enough???
Just as a white person can drive through a Hispanic, Asian, or black neighborhood and get treated the same way. Or a Hispanic or Asian in any other neighborhood not their own. And here's the thing that only the INTELLIGENT people realize: the actions of Sharpton and Jackson do not help the situation in any way. In fact, it makes it worse. Those people who you speak of that are already that racist that they'll spit upon any race other than their own, those people just get more angered over things like this. All this does is increases their hate. And if you don't think so, just refer back to the first sentence of this paragraph. |

Re: Al Sharpton.....when will it be enough???
Even when those in the black community speak against them, they are called "anti-black". For two self-called "leaders", nearly every action they do is racist in itself and always has a monetary reason behind it. The past three major publicity scandals are a perfect example. 1- The "Kramer" incident. They rallied all over Richards for his use of the N word. Yes, it was said in hate and an apoligy was necessary. But trying to sue Richards for money was wrong. Then they also tried to get that word banned for the comedy club, thankfully, Paul Rodriguez said that is not going to happen, he's not going to tell his comedians what they can and can't say in his adult comedy club. In fact, a good portions of black comedians base the majority of their acts on that type of humor. If Sharpton And Jackson want to stop the use of that word in comedy acts, then they should start with them, buty then that would harm a black mans income. 2- The "Imus" deal, it's already being talked about here, no explaination needed. 3- The "Isiah Washington" incidents. Isiah Washington, a black actor on a very highly watched popular show, Grey's Anatomy, a show which promotes racial diversity, in an angry fit called a gay co-actor "faggot" in front of a large number of people. People were extremely upset and offended by this. And in his many failed and underhanded attempts to deny doing so, while onstage accepting anEmmy award for the show with the rest of the shows cast members, Washington grab the microphone and and blatantly lied "I did not call him a faggot" to the shock of everyone on stage who knows the truth. The large gay community is upset over this, they want him fired. Now if Jackson and Sharpton wre themselves honest and true to what they say about trying to end hurtful racism, they would rally to have Isiah fired as well. What he said was no different than what Richards said and it is far worse than what Imus said. |

Re: Al Sharpton.....when will it be enough???
Found this on another board and figured I would post it
To the black people on this post, understand that most folks that post racially charged and negative stereotype images of black people, really do not hate all black people. If they search their souls and their hearts, they will probably agree with me. They could be friends with a black woman or man, but to embrace the whole community is an unreachable goal. I stand on the same ground. There is a laundry list of things that bother us white folks, and it seems to be never ending. It is a source of constant irritation. Here is my off the cuff laundry list, not complete but the best that I could do without really taking some time. Slave Reparation: You are asking money from people who never did anything to you, for something that never happened to you. Reparations should be paid if YOU actually suffered damages. You would have to calculate how you have lost financially from slavery. As far as I see, you are better off in the land of the free, than you would be if you still were to reside in, say Africa. Have you seen any photos at all of the living conditions in Africa? Affirmative Action: It blows. They are giving preferential treatment to someone based on the color of their skin. It is the dumbing of America. Do you know how many firefighters were not promoted to Lieutenant even though they scored higher on a test than black counterparts? Do you know how many white kids did not go to a certain school because a black applicant was enrolled even though they scored lower on the test? Look , I don't have the stats either, but it has happened in great numbers. The Dumbing of America is not something that we have to agree with. The Negative Image That You Perpetuate: Glorifying gangsta rappers who use the N word and talk of killing whites and cops is not really a good image to project. You won't win any friends from the other side. The Huge Crime Rate and Black Prison Population: The statistics are frightening. Almost 50 percent of black males will be incarcerated in their lifetime. What's that you say? They grew up without fathers in a poor neighborhood and they are expressing themselves in the wrong fashion. SEE MY NEXT REASON Be Sexually Responsible and Good Parenting Skills are a PLUS:Look, what about condoms? Why are though so many black children without fathers. Because so many black men don't give a hoot about their children. They father children and then abandon them. Sickening. The result is black single mothers with children by multiple fathers. The mothers can't find a decent job so they get on the welfare system. This activity perpetuates from generation to generation. Time to quit banging any swinging dick. And to the swinging dicks, buy condoms, pay child support, and be a good father to your children. Stay in School: The high school dropout rate amongst black students is frightening. White man is not to blame for this phenomena. Nobody told you to quit school and deal crack or to join a gang. Again, good parenting skills needed. Quit Embracing Spokes Persons like Jesse Jackson:Have you ever read "Shakedown" Exposing the Real Jesse Jackson. It makes me vomit to see that they give this crook a page in the Sun Times. He is a racist, a race baiter, a shakedown expert, and a big time crook who has stolen millions for Jesse Jackson incorporated. He has paid the government back millions because he could not show where al the moneys taken in from PUSH and other programs have went. He is using his own people for financial gain. It is disgusting. Martin Luther King Had a Dream-Does it only apply to Whites? :What about judging a man by the content of his character and not the color of his skin. WHY IS THE COLOR OF YOUR SKIN SUCH A BIG ISSUE? We are all humans, all Americans. Why do you have Black Colleges, Black Miss America Pageant, Black Entertainment Network, NAACP? If white folks were to practice this, we would be racists, wouldn't we? I saw a sign posted in a window on Martin Luther King Drive last week that said, "BLACK OWNED". Hey, if a white did this, Jesse would be marching with his crew. You can't tell me that you want to be judged by the content of your character and not the color of your skin, and then march around with a John Phillips Sousa band promoting your blackness. Get off it already. We get it. You are black. Violent Behavior: You burned down a city after the Rodney King cops were acquitted. After the OJ trial, most whites went on with business as usual though the topic was brought up in conversation. Learn Proper English: Look, Ebonics is a twisted distorted bastardization of the English language. If you only knew how stupid you sounded saying things like, "let me AKS you a question", and I be, and we be.My bad. Well, be smart about this. You will have a better chance of finding a better job when you speak normal proper English. Quit Tearing UP Government Subsidized Housing: This really gets my goat. The government has spent millions housing black folks on the government subsidized housing program. You tear the living **** out of the property and make it uninhabitable. What do we do? We tear that shit down and put up new housing for you. Here's my tax dollars at work. What the **** is that about? You complain about White Flight-but look at your community: Been there. Garbage everywhere, graffiti, burned out building, junked cars, dogs on 3 foot chains tied to a tree. Clean your asses up. Be responsible for where you live. Your community, your home. These are reasons for what some may call white flight. Property values go down when a lot of blacks move into the neighborhood because of the above. With it comes crime. Why stay? Work Ethics: Promote good work ethics. So many blacks have none. Did you ever wonder why there are hardly any blacks in construction? Great paying job. It isn't because every contractor is a racist. So many that apply don't have a car to get to the job, and so many that get the job are j u s t p l a i n s l o o oo oo oow w o rk e r s! Mexicans are dominating the trades right now because they are some of the hardest workers that you could meet anywhere in the world, hands down. A lesson to be learned here for hard work. Construction in the city is a great job with great benefits and medical and dental, and yes retirement. You can make from 60k to well into the six figures in construction in a union shop in Chicago which rivals a college educated person. But you have to be good at what you do and that takes time, preparation, planning, perseverance, patience, effort, skill, good character, morals, values, honesty, and hard work, and intelligence. These are just some thoughts that I have regarding some of the causes of racism and particularly the anti black sentiment that seems to prevail here. |

Re: Al Sharpton.....when will it be enough???
The NAACP does nothing but bark up the wrong tree all day long. So long as ANYTHING sounds the least be hateful, dirogetory, or anything that could ever offend the african american people. And I'll bet if there was no Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton and the rest of the drama queens, no one would have a problem with any of it. Not condoning racism at all, but to have the man fired and continue on and on and on and on about it, and talk about a march or protest? I mean come on.. I thought firing the guy who didnt deserve firing was ''vindication'' for his comment that wasn't racist in my opinion. But whatever they want to get rowled up about just so they can have their ''un-racist'' protest

Re: Al Sharpton.....when will it be enough???
whats funny about that is if you showed that to most blacks they would just sit there and bitch about it and say were all full of shit and ridiculously racist. and whats funny is that is the most ignorant and childish rebuttal but it "works" over and over for them... im so sick of the race card being pulled every time a white person does or says anything and everyone gets so scared about it and caters to this shit. this topic pisses me off... people are ****in pussies is what it comes down to. "QUICK! pull our ads because he said NAPPY" i hate how people tiptoe around not hurting a ****in black persons feelings... **** them. we all bleed red.

As with most everything on the world, it all comes down to money. If you run a company selling products to the public, you don't want the company or the products to be associated with any scandal. It hurts your profit. Whether they're right or wrong, people like Sharpton have a huge influence on what a large number of people think. If he says boycott those that advertise on something, they will. Most companies are in the business to make money, not stand up for rights and wrongs. |

well it seems that even with the assholes firing Imus in the middle of his radiothon, they were still able to raise a good amount of money. This is on WFAN - The Fan - Homepage <------where Imus' radio show was broadcast
WFAN wants to thank all those people that made donations to the 18th Annual Radiothon, we have collected a total of $3,430,683 to benefit all the great charities. You can still make a donation to the charities by calling 1-877-877-6464 or online by CLICKING HERE. |

Re: Al Sharpton.....when will it be enough???
I don't think he should have said(but he was trying to be funny and made a bad joke), I have just been commenting because everytime something like this happens it gets blown way out of proportion and the white guy is made to be some racist asshole, and when a black guy does the same things its all good and no harm done. This is because we let little comments like this slide, people say stupid stuff, and if you apologize, we forgive, but the black guy never has to apologize. You cry wolf all the time, and nothing will be done when its a true cause of racism. I honestly can say that I was unbiased when I moved back to the states in high school as I had lived over seas from the time I was 10 til I was in the 10th grade. Then I went to school, the real world, and the real world made my "racist" because I had black guys in high school walking around telling me I owed them something for something my great great great great grandfather did to them, the ####ers werent even born then. And that I should have to cough up 10% of what I make so they can have their caddies sitting in their drive ways with chrome rims, while their families are starving, I have witnessed this first hand many times. |

Re: Al Sharpton.....when will it be enough???
down goes another morning radio show
Chinese Americans outraged by CBS radio Source: Xinhuanet | 04-23-2007 16:24 The Organization of Chinese Americans (OCA) on Sunday expressed outrage over a recent CBS radio segment, which it described as "racist, vulgar and sexist." The Dog House with JV & Elvis is a radio talk show airing in NYC. WFNY 92.3 Free FM, which is part of CBS Radio, aired twice a segment of a talk show involving a prank call to a Chinese restaurant. In a press release, the OCA called for an immediate apology from the hosts of the segment, JV & Elvis, their producer and the station. The leading Chinese American group also demanded the immediate firing of JV & Elvis and their show's producer. In the segment, the caller began by telling the first restaurant employee, "I would like some Asian food, son of a bitch" as well as to the second employee, "I would love to have lots of Asian food, son of a bitch." The caller then told the restaurant's female employee, "Should I come to your restaurant so I can see you naked? " and continued, "That way, I can see your hot Asian spicy ass." As the caller went on, he told another employee that he would like some "flied lice," but not "some old dung" and indicated that "I am training in Kung Fu, bitch" before ending with "Tell that hot Asian girl answering the telephone, I'd like to tap her ass." OCA-New York President Vicki Shu Smolin said that what is especially disturbing to the Asian American community is that even after CBS fired Don Imus for referring to the Scarlet Knights, the Rutgers University women's basketball team, as "nappy-headed hos" on April 4, one day before the segment was first aired, JV & Elvis aired it again on April 19. It is apparent that not only did JV & Elvis not learn anything from the Don Imus scandal, but CBS and CBS Radio decided that Asian Americans are easy prey for racist radio broadcast, he said. John Tandana, executive vice president of OCA-Long Island, said:" Once again, radio has tried to gain ratings to the detriment of Asian Americans. The segment lasted over six minutes, the entire time, casting Asian Americans and women in a demeaning manner. We will not allow talk radio to spread stereotypes that hurt our community." The Dog House with JV & Elvis is a radio talk show airing in New York City. The Dog House stars JV (Jeff Vandergrift) and Elvis (Dan Lay), and the two met in 1993 and have been radio co-hosts for some 15 years. Prank phone calls are considered one of the most controversial parts in their program. This segment involves JV or Elvis calling random people from the phone book and the calls are usually humiliating. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Article Tools Sponsored By By JACQUES STEINBERG Published: April 24, 2007 CBS Radio suspended two hosts from an FM station in New York City today after an Asian-American advocacy organization complained about the broadcast of a six-minute prank phone call to a Chinese restaurant that was peppered with ethnic and sexual slurs. The call was first played on “The Dog House With JV and Elvis,” a midmorning show on WFNY, on April 5, the day after Don Imus made his comment about the Rutgers women’s basketball team on WFAN, another CBS-owned station. The call was then replayed on “The Dog House” on Thursday, a week after Mr. Imus was fired by CBS Radio. In the skit, a series of apparently unsuspecting employees of a Chinese restaurant are berated by a caller who tells one woman he would like to “come to your restaurant” to see her naked, especially a part of her body he refers to as “hot, Asian, spicy.” The caller also attempts to order “flied lice,” brags of his prowess in kung fu and repeatedly curses at several employees. In a statement on Sunday, the four New York-area chapters of the Organization of Chinese Americans, an advocacy group, demanded an apology from the show’s two hosts and from CBS Radio, and called for the firing of the hosts and their producer. In an interview today before the suspensions were announced, Vicki Shu Smolin, president of the organization’s New York City chapter, said she was mystified that CBS would allow the call to be broadcast in the first place and then would permit it to be replayed in the aftermath of the Imus incident. (“The Dog House” has been waging a broad campaign in support of Mr. Imus both on the show and on its Web site.) “I just see plain ignorance in the CBS management — of the community, of who we are, of what we’re all about,” Ms. Shu Smolin said. “If they don’t fire the D.J.’s, it will be a double standard.” She promised to rip a page from the playbook of the Rev. Al Sharpton, who led the charge for Mr. Imus’s dismissal, by staging protests of CBS Radio and boycotting advertisers on WFNY. “They don’t think they’re going to get any backlash from the Asian-American community,” she said. “They’re definitely wrong.” In an e-mail message sent this afternoon, a spokeswoman for CBS Radio, Karen Mateo, said that the two hosts, Jeff Vandergrift (JV) and Dan Lay (Elvis), had been suspended “without pay until further notice.” Mr. Vandergrift, Ms. Mateo said, had apologized on today’s show. The show, which began on WFNY (92.3 FM) in January 2006, can be heard outside the New York City market only via the Internet. Ms. Shu Smolin said she first learned of the “Dog House” broadcast on Saturday, in an article published by Ming Pao, a Chinese-language daily newspaper in New York. She said her organization had since sent e-mail messages to the general manager and program director of WFNY voicing its concerns, but had to resort to regular mail to reach Leslie Moonves, the president and chief executive of CBS. “I can’t get any contact info on him,” she said. It was, she acknowledged, an indication that her organization was not yet as media savvy as Mr. Sharpton’s. |

Re: Al Sharpton.....when will it be enough???
oh just more and more horseshit everyday, who's next?
You can't say that! Outrage as guest on 'Opie' show sez he'd **** Condi & Laura BY DAVID HINCKLEY DAILY NEWS STAFF WRITER Friday, May 11th 2007, 4:00 AM Bad-boy radio hosts Opie and Anthony yesterday topped even their infamous 2002 "Sex in St. Pat's" stunt, serving up a homeless man's profane declaration that he'd like to **** Condoleezza Rice, Laura Bush and Queen Elizabeth. The graphic sequence on their XM Satellite Radio program showed that even in a medium with no restrictions on content, Opie and Anthony found a way to cross the line. The actual comments were made by a guest the shock jocks call Homeless Charlie. As each woman's name came up, he said, "I'd love to f--- that b----." They laughed as they imagined "the horror" in Rice's face and what it would be like to hold her down and punch her in the face. The crude cracks came a month after CBS gave Don Imus the boot for calling members of the Rutgers University women's basketball team "nappy-headed ho's." As an audio clip spread across the Internet, XM quickly issued a condemnation. "We deplore the comments made on today's 'Opie & Anthony Show,'" said an XM spokesman. Opie and Anthony themselves offered an apology yesterday evening: "We take very seriously the responsibility that comes with our creative freedom and regret any offense that this segment has caused." At the State Department, spokesman Sean McCormack shook his head in disgust but declined to comment on the insult to the secretary of state. A White House spokesman declined to "dignify that with a response." CBS Radio, where Opie and Anthony are heard earlier each morning over WFNY (92.3 FM) on a different show with much stricter content guidelines, breathed an almost audible sigh of relief. "Fortunately, we have standards that did not, and would not, ever let something like this make our air," it said. XM said nothing yesterday about disciplinary action, but industry observers said the offensive remarks had the potential to derail a lot more than the deejays' jobs. XM and Sirius Satellite are seeking the Federal Communications Commission's approval for a merger. Tom Taylor, editor of the trade magazine Inside Radio, noted this could place the issue of content on the table. "XM and Sirius don't want any regulation," he said. "But it's come up in four congressional hearings - and at this point, the merger is such a close call any issue could become important." Opie and Anthony had "Homeless Charlie" on their WFNY show earlier yesterday. While many of his comments were bleeped out, he talked about how he "punches old b----es in the head" to steal their money. Anthony, whose full name is Anthony Cumia, called that comment "horrible and awful," but said it illustrated a point about radio today. "You can talk about beating up old ladies and nobody stops you, but make one insulting joke about an ethnic group and you're fired." Opie (aka Gregg Hughes) and Anthony have complained lately about restrictions on their terrestrial radio content, a subject with which they are familiar. They were taken off New York's WNEW by CBS in August 2002 for running a contest in which they said two listeners had sex in St. Patrick's Cathedral. They were hired by XM in 2004 and in 2006 rehired by CBS for WFNY. Michael Harrison, editor of the trade magazine Talkers, said they could now face the same pressure Imus came under, even though their bit aired on satellite. "In both cases," said Harrison, "FCC regulations don't matter, because they weren't violated. Those involved are still subject to public reaction - a reaction that now is amplified by the Internet." |

Re: Al Sharpton.....when will it be enough???
and another
O&A Outrage, Now Howard Stern's Bubba The Love Sponge Recording By Jack Ryan May 11, 2007 Bubba The Love Sponge Follows Opie And Anthony Lead? - Opie and Anthony have got themselves into a bit of trouble over a recent broadcast in which a purported homeless man (Homeless Charlie) pays the show a visit. "Charlie" talks about having forced intercourse with the Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice among other woman such as First Lady Laura Bush & Queen Elizabeth. The bit is not only vulgar, but fairly violent and it all goes on with the encouragement of the show hosts. At one point Anthony talks about the horror for Rice as the guest is "holding her down" and assaulting her. They then subsequently invite Charlie to be a regular guest. Oh, I forgot.. It's not a bit. What's sad is as vile as that is, it pales in comparison to the audio that can be found here. It's an Rage Against The Machine Spoof by Manson of BTLS.com (Bubba The Love Sponge). Bubba The Love Sponge is an affiliate of Howard Stern. In this recording the hosts can be heard giggling like school children as a recording plays in the background suggesting that President Bush should get ebola and bleed out of every orifice. It is suggested that the only way he can stop the bleeding is to "plug the holes" with the genitalia of 2008 presidential hopeful John McCain. It gets even viler with attacks on prominent republicans and talkshow hosts Bill O'Reilly and Rush Limbaugh. Just because it's a parody of how this band feels about things doesn't make it acceptable. It's a-holes like these guys and many of you who feel it's a free speech issue that embolden people like Marx, Stalin, Hitler, Mao, Amin, Chavez. Why, because garbage like this proves there needs to be regulation. But human being are evil to the core and over regulation leads to a nationalist state. Matt Drudge posted the O& A story on Wednesday. Since it appeared on the Drudge report, everybody in a position of power over radio have either heard it or heard about it, writes Neal Boortz. Now we have this gem. While XM and Sirius attempt to sway the forces on Capitol Hill in order to pave the way for a smooth merger, reports Wired News, shock jocks like all these buffoons are going to make it that much more difficult. NewsBusters asks the question we want to know, Is this behavior acceptable when the targets are Republicans? Does I've been a fan of satellite radio since it was first announced. I even own a TON of the stock (which gives me rights to speak about it). And this "Douche Bag" isn't talking about a few thousand shares either. I believe in free speech which is why I believe in celestial radio. However, I also believe that there are boundaries that shouldn't be crossed. Free speech doesn't mean you can say anything. If someone yelled "fire" in a theatre and your wife, sister, brother, son, daughter or husband was trampled, you'd be looking for the first trial attorney you could find to sue the venue. So don't give me that crap. I get it. It's o.k. if it's not you. Thanks to all these clowns, the stock prices are going to continue to spiral toward the awaiting ground. |

Re: Al Sharpton.....when will it be enough???
yup Opie and Anthony finally got it, 30 days suspension from XM starting immediately and 2 week suspension from CBS starting monday. XM isn't playing the worst of replays through the day like they usually do or anything. All because a homeless guy made a joke about raping Laura Bush and Condoleezza Rice. Will not shock me one bit if they get fired from both sides, a couple sponsors on the CBS side have already pulled out, NY State lottery and Trojan. Apparently not even satellite radio is free from all this bullshit, when they are on a PAID service and a XL channel that warns of offensive language, etc.....
By MATTHEW BARAKAT Tuesday, May 15, 2007 McLEAN, Va. - XM Satellite Radio suspended shock jocks Opie and Anthony for 30 days Tuesday, one week after they aired crude sex comments about Condoleezza Rice, Laura Bush and Queen Elizabeth II and one day after they made light of the incident in their broadcast. "Comments made by Opie and Anthony on yesterday's broadcast put into question whether they appreciate the seriousness of the matter," Washington-based XM said in a statement. "The management of XM Radio decided to suspend Opie and Anthony to make clear that our on-air talent must take seriously the responsibility that creative freedom requires of them." Opie and Anthony, who last week apologized for the sex comments, struck a more defensive tone on Monday's broadcast. They lamented the state of radio and what they perceived as excessive reactions to comments made by themselves and other radio disc jockeys. "We're under the same scrutiny as (National Public Radio) _ it doesn't make sense," they said on Monday's show. The pair also expressed sympathy for Don Imus, saying his career is now "gone, just because he was trying to entertain people." Last month, cable network MSNBC dropped its simulcast of Imus' show, then CBS Radio fired him for using racist and sexist terms to describe the Rutgers women's basketball team. On May 9, Opie and Anthony, whose full names are Greg "Opie" Hughes and Anthony Cumia, aired a segment with a man they call Homeless Charlie. As the names of Rice, Bush and the queen came up, Charlie said in vulgar terms that he would like to have sex with each of them. Opie and Anthony laughed as they imagined Rice's "horror" while describing a violent sexual encounter in which Rice is punched in the face. Opie and Anthony were fired by CBS Radio in 2002 after broadcasting a call from two listeners who said they were having sex in New York's St. Patrick's Cathedral. XM hired the pair in 2004. Because the show airs on satellite radio, its content is not subject to regulation by the Federal Communications Commission. Opie and Anthony also host a syndicated, tamer terrestrial radio program for CBS. Opie and Anthony will be on the air for that program as scheduled Wednesday morning, CBS Radio said Tuesday. A call to Opie and Anthony's agent, Robert Eatman, was not immediately returned Tuesday. A spokesman for XM Satellite Radio Holdings Inc. declined to say whether Opie and Anthony would be paid during their suspension, calling it a contractual matter. |
