Ain't This Some B*ll Shit

another reason for me to hate the state of Michigan

Quote: Originally Posted by Adventures In Baby Sittint
IRVING TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Each day before the school bus comes to pick up the neighborhood's children, Lisa Snyder did a favor for three of her fellow moms, welcoming their children into her home for about an hour before they left for school.

Regulators who oversee child care, however, don't see it as charity. Days after the start of the new school year, Snyder received a letter from the Michigan Department of Human Services warning her that if she continued, she'd be violating a law aimed at the operators of unlicensed day care centers.

"I was freaked out. I was blown away," she said. "I got on the phone immediately, called my husband, then I called all the girls" — that is, the mothers whose kids she watches — "every one of them."

Snyder's predicament has led to a debate in Michigan about whether a law that says no one may care for unrelated children in their home for more than four weeks each calendar year unless they are licensed day-care providers needs to be changed. It also has irked parents who say they depend on such friendly offers to help them balance work and family.
On Tuesday, agency Director Ismael Ahmed said good neighbors should be allowed to help each other ensure their children are safe. Gov. Jennifer Granholm instructed Ahmed to work with the state Legislature to change the law, he said.

"Being a good neighbor means helping your neighbors who are in need," Ahmed said in a written statement. "This could be as simple as providing a cup of sugar, monitoring their house while they're on vacation or making sure their children are safe while they wait for the school bus."

Snyder learned that the agency was responding to a neighbor's complaint.
Granholm spokeswoman Liz Boyd said the agency was following standard procedure in its response. "But we feel this (law) really gets in the way of common sense," Boyd said.

Yeah it is. All she needs to do is get her license though. Why doesn't she just do that.

She's not running a daycare.

That's like saying if your friend drives you to work/school, then he needs a taxi license.

I can understand a neighbor calling in a complaint about lots of ADULTS coming and going (drug deals, etc..) but this is, STRAIGHT UP, ridiculous.

I f'ng HATE busybody neighbors who stick their nose where it doesn't belong. I've had neighbors like this before. From the article, it sound like it's quite obvious that the kids were not staying all day, just long enough to kill time before leaving for school.

Yeah, that law definitely needs changing, and that neighbor needs to mind his/her own business and/or find something REAL to squawk about.

There's an expense involved to get what is basically a business license. I don't know about Michigan, but in Kansas to get a daycare license you have to make sure you home is up to code, have rules and regulations posted, inspected by Health and Human Services, etc. It's not as simple as just applying for a license and viola! You're now a daycare. That's DUMB to have to go to these lengths in order to get a license just so you can have your neighbors' kids stay at your home for 1 hour a day.

It's the principle of this stupid complaint, not the piece of paper that says "hey, I'm a daycare now" The expense to this would not be worth it.

becasue she shouldnt have to go get a license that will probably cot about $100 plus most likely take a class just to do her friends a favor by watching their kids for an hour before school

From the story posted, it appears her house is right next to the bus stop and she is just letting the kids wait inside, instead of standing on the street corner where other dangers are present (bad weather, pedobears, etc...)

like a couple of the others have said, it costs money to get licensed. . .not only the fee for the license, but money spent on getting her home up to code for a daycare. . .also, she may even have to attend classes to get her license or have to take a red cross class in cpr just to keep a license. . .that's excessive for someone who is just watching a few neighborhood kids for about an hour, so they aren't home alone waiting for a morning bus ride to school. . .

She should just fight the fact that she only has the kids in her home approx 180 hour a year, that this does not constitute 4 weeks (672 hours)

I don't know what's worse: The fact that someone is getting in trouble for helping someone by keeping an eye on their kids before school, or the fact that someone is bitching about these kids being at their house.

Re: Ain't This Some B*ll Shit

I used to stand outside waiting for the bus when I was in high school. It was cold & miserable sometimes. This is a great gesture this woman has been doing.

Now, let the kids stand at the stop. Car looses control & hits them. Pedobear pulls up & snatches one. They start smoking or doing drugs. Kids get sick from the weather. The religous zellots recruit them for a cult. Upper classman picks them up and then gets into an accident & they all die. But at least she is following the law.

What is the difference between this and the kids coming over after school to play or hang out together? Just because the play time ends when the bus comes really is not any difference. She must have pissed off someone somehow or the neighbor is a real moron and turned her in. Likely, the bus driver does not care if this goes on. Or, is the new neighbor not included?

Sounds like a daycare to me. Someone watching after their kids after they go to work. An hour isn't just 'waiting for the bus.'

Re: Ain't This Some B*ll Shit

i kinda agree an hour is alot to be waiting for a bus.. but still shouldnt have to get a daycare license.. she is just babysitting a few kids.. allthough i think every person over the age of 14 should have a valid cpr cert and keep it valid. imo

so let's say you had 3 kids, it's a pretty commone number of kids, and your mom/grandmother/aunt/sister said they would watch them while you and the wife went to your weekly bowling league. . .would you call that daycare or babysitting?

not really. . .its somebody watching their kids for no pay while they were doing something else. . .he would have no problem calling that babysitting. . .the only reason a case like that is different is because the perception is that a family member is doing their family a favor. . .my point wasn't so much what the legal word for it would be, it's more of a what would you call it if someone was watching your kids for free for a short period of time. . .even if it was free i'd call it daycare if she was watching these kids from the time their parents left for work until they got home from work. . .i'd completely understand that, because there would be need for feeding and proper facilities to handle a particular amount of kids over a prolonged period of time. . .

i highly doubt that anyone of those neighbors considered daycare, and anyone who isn't arguing for the sake of arguing, and that misguided law, considers what that woman was doing daycare. . .

Re: Ain't This Some B*ll Shit

O?

Quote:
On April 17, 2009, the Orange County Board of Supervisors agreed to pay $3.75 million, plus an additional $900,000 in medical expenses to an illegal alien who was severely beaten by other inmates in the Orange County Central Jail. The Mexican national filed a lawsuit shortly after the incident.

Fernando Ramirez, 24, was in jail after being charged with molesting a 6-year-old girl at a local park. He eventually pled guilty to the lesser charge of battery against a child.

According to his attorney, Ramirez suffered brain damage and now needs help walking. Attorney Mark Eisenberg also claims that his client has been left with an intellect of a 4-year-old child.

Despite the dire financial crisis facing Orange County, Ramirez received the largest settlement ever awarded by the county for an in-custody incident. The Board of Supervisors made their decision in a closed-door session and have refused any comment on the matter.

Reporter’s note: Except for one story carried by the Orange County Register, there has been no press coverage of this matter. One would think that an illegal alien child molester becoming a millionaire through taxpayer funding would be big news.

Of course, a story such as this one would make people angry, and maybe even angry enough to hold their elected representatives accountable for the enormous crime wave being perpetrated by this country’s illegal alien population.

I don’t know which is more outrageous, the now-daily accounts of illegal aliens raping our women and children; our elected officials allowing our land to be transformed into a Third World nation; or a complicit mainstream press, eager to assist in the cover-up of our destruction.
Hm.
