You should have never used Bosch in anything GM at any point in time.

The best place to install Bosch plugs is in a Rubbermaid trash can........... Actually the best applications are in european makes, VW, Mercedes, maybe BMW.

I will quote my own post from another thread::

At work I sell plugs by OEM application.

GM vehicles - AC Delco
Ford - Motorcraft
Nissan - NGK
VW, Audi, Mercedes (any european) - Bosch
Dodge, Chrysler - Champion
Toyota - I send them to Autozone for Denso. I don't know why my company doesn't carry them.
Autolite - for cheap people or older cars that we can't figure out what they used originally. Their not a bad brand but their not universal.

Using OEM type plugs helps maintain OEM type gas mileage. Unless you add a turbo or supercharger, OEM plugs and ignition systems will work great.

i'll agree with you on the application stuff except on one thing . . . . autolite plugs are not made any cheaper than AC Delco or Motorcraft. They all come from the same machine, the same lot# and leave in the same hoppers full of plugs. there is abaolutely, positively NO difference in them whatso ever except the insulator has a different brand name on it.

heres how i see it . . .
you got a can of Del Monte corn and a can of wal-mart brand corn . . . . theres a chance both cans contain a few kernals of corn off the SAME cobb and 1 can cost a dollar more, they both last just aslong and taste the same. . . why pay $1 more a can?

Re: AC Delco plugs

Some of the comments in this thread iremind me of the practices at the oil company I work for. We (Amalie Oil) make all the oil for Advance Auto Parts...we also blend bulk oil for SOPUS (Shell/Pennzoil)...the Advance Oil that everyone thinks is just some cheap oil, is the exact same blend we use for SOPUS or any of our nearly 40 other labels. The price per quart or case comes from the packaging and marketing, but the oil is the exact same.

You obviously have no idea how it works. Nothing is split. Lines what model/part/type of plug their making daily, if not more. And Honeywell makes the majority of AC Delco plugs, I don't recall the exact % but it's somewhere above 70% of the entire AC Delco line, including several iridium models.
i was going by what i was told by my store manager at advance, (he has worked in auto parts for thirty years and says he has been there, i guess he is wrong then)

atleast i was still right to a point and not totally wrong

Can you let me know what oils are like pennzoil so that I can avoid them like the plauge in Europe? Granted I use Valvoline and Royal purple but have used shell Rotella T before the switch in ZDDP but need to find another oil with those higher concentrations for my one car.

You can't get no greener then that.

i know you joking but if someone seriously interested in "going green" then you should buy some amsoil oil and filter. then do like they say and run it for 25k miles to a year. just think of how much less oil you'll be throwing away.

Royal purple is the same 25k or 1yr which ever occurs first. The best filter I found was Mobile 1 good for 10k miles. No other filter manufactured would give a mileage with syn oil.

people would be surprised how many part #'s come off this production floor and the order they come in. one minute might be an AC line and the next your running a motorcraft part and then back to a AC again.

remember i told you about fortoria shutting down? they finally are, we got the last few machines a week ago.
Freakin shame. Are you guys taking over the premium plug stuff? And is Torch still making the copper core? Grrr I hate those Torch made ones. Such pieces of shit.

Man I wonder what happened to my old boss..... and all the people I know who worked in the plant...... damn.

Re: AC Delco plugs

anyone have any tips for changing plugs that you dont know how long theyve been in there for. my trucks an 85, with only 93 000 KM on it, so its spent the majority of its life sitting until i got it. my aunt gave it to me, thats why i have it. i assume the plugs have been changed once cause it is carbed so they would have been fouled atleast once, but i dont want to change em and have them all seized in there so they snap off in the heads. any advice, or do i just pray for the best.

there were some guys from torch that came in here last week to look and see if they could do it cheaper than us . . . i dunno why they even bothered bringing the shit down here if there gonna move it away again.

from what i understand, torch wants all of the business and completely buy us out.

Pretty much just pray for the best. I know a trick of the trade on aluminum heads is to run the engine for a little while so the plugs don't take the threads with it. But on cast iron it's usually more common to see them snap.

Man **** Torch. Autolite was profitable before we sold copper core to torch. I heard many high-ups say that. And a ton of good people lost their jobs when Fostoria closed. Damn, that sucks.

If Torch buys all of Autolite, I'll officially stop recommending Autolite to everyone and stop buying them myself. Honeywell was doing almost 800k per day when I left........ I don't see how they justified shutting that place down. Damnit I hate Torch. lol
