2nd Gen hood strut kit

MotoCam360 is willing to R&D a 2nd gen hood strut kit if he can get 10 people to commit to buying it. I know Redline tuning has a kit but his look much nicer and use different attachment points. You can see pics in the 1st gen section. I don't know the price, but would guse it would be comparable to the 1st gen kit. Let's get rid of the prop rod for a quality kit...

I'm with Mo on this. Plus money is tight right now with my wife not working so I can't really commit to anything.

X2. I would like a kit but the hood attachment would need to be interchangeable (not permanent); I have three hoods and I don't feel like buying extra parts.

If they turn out anything like the 1st gen kit, it would be a simple bolt on. MotoCam360 is willing to buy a 2nd gen as a test mule. If it turns out anything like his other products it will be very nice.

Re: 2nd Gen hood strut kit

I don't know. This is just to gauge how many people are interested. They haven't been R&D yet. I am not the person/company making them...I just want one...or two. My guess there will be some drilling required...how else would you attach them. You should check out their website. There is a link in the 1st gen section to their website.

I can't speak for MotoCam360, but I would guess it would be in the same neighborhood as the 1st gen kits. I'm hoping he will jump in and provide a little insight.

I'd like insight, too - projected cost, attachment design and material. I presume the first batches would be steel but I'm a sucker for underhood billet. If steel, will it be painted or powder coated?

I have no idea. This was just to gauge interest. If they are anything like the 1st gen kits I'm sure they will be first class. there is a link to their website in the 1st ten gas strut thread. I haven't been in contact with him for some time and it was in the 1st gen thread.

If this is gauging interest then...

4. Count me in! Especially if he wants to throw in a new hood!

I'm assuming we're talking about two hydraulic struts and some hardware to hook everything up in the right locations, got to be under $100. I think that's totally worth it and anyone could save up for it delivering pizzas for a week.

Funny how you say cheap, but I say I got quality at an affordable price. I didnt buy no china cheap crap gas strut. I bought made in America, billet gas struts. I just found them at the right time, and got them affordable. They have been on my truck for 5 years now, and never had an issue.

Well….good for you. This thread is to gauge interest for a 2nd gen kit from Motocam360. Not everyone has the ability, nor the interest to do it them selves.

So, if you are so proud of your ingenuity, post up some pics.

What in the world is a "billet strut"? We've been building kits for various vehicles for a LONG time and never heard of a billet strut. We make billet mounting brackets for our kit!

We also incorporate nice little features that are transparent to the naked eye like end-of-stroke dampening so the hood slows down as it reaches the stop.

Re: 2nd Gen hood strut kit

Sorry for the late replies guys.... didn't see this thread until now.

The Gen 2 kit would range from $95-115 depending on how we make the brackets. We always strive to design kits with very minimal alterations to the vehicles, but our kits usually require atleast 1 hole drill per side.

Is the "one hole per side" for a ball pivot attachment (permanent) or a hole for a bolt to pass through to mount the bracket (interchangeable)?

Good call.... seems excessive since the strut body is metal and can easily be painted to match whatever color a person desires.

The "one hole per side" could be for a ball pivot or the bracket, so you would get your needed interchangeability.

I can't comment on the exact design until we begin the R&D process. There is a Gen2 for sale down the street that we will purchase to complete the prototyping process once we have 10 commitments with 50% down.
