Re: 2011 Caprice
wouldnt that lose them a lot of money to design that, produce a few thousand, and not mass produce it?

Re: 2011 Caprice
I won't believe it until I see one in person. There's been so much back and forth about the reality of a RWD V8 Caprice that it's hard to tell what's true and what's not. Yes, I've read the articles and seen the pictures, but still wonder how realistic it is that they'll see the road. That said, I do agree that it would be odd to only build them for fleet/law enforcement use and not standard production.

Re: 2011 Caprice
The new Crown Victoria's are only sold as fleet vehicles so I could see them only building the new Caprice for the same market. Would be cool to see them actually built though instead of pictures and rumors.

Re: 2011 Caprice
Hahahaha! They're going to offer an undercover street appearance package for a car model that is only going to be sold to police departments. That'll stick out like a sore thumb to experienced criminals. On top of that, It looks like it was beaten with an ugly stick.

Re: 2011 Caprice
now that the government is stuffing the pockets of GM, i don't find it hard at all to believe that they would build a limited production, purpose built police car with a Government Motors badge on it..

Re: 2011 Caprice
I wouldn't want one even if it was available to the public. Sorry but thats a discrace to the caprice nameplate, imo. Thats not a real big body, body on frame, solid rear axel caprice. Should just call it the new impala since they already ruined that nameplate.

Re: 2011 Caprice
I'm not trying to cause an argument but I think the whole defending the name of the car thing gets a little out of hand sometimes. DON'T get me wrong, the Impala should've been rwd when it came back out but from my experiences (sp?) I enjoy modern irs cars versus full axle cars and with the technology we have now as far as suspension and not needing a frame and such, I think having a unibody, irs, and rwd "modern" Caprice is MUCH cooler than a fwd, v6 Impala. Like I said though, not arguing, just stating my opinion lol.

I would much rather have the Pontiac G8. It looked way more aggressive. Just my opinion though.

Re: 2011 Caprice
The only gripe I have with that Caprice and the G8's is the taillights are too small for the rear of the car and on the Caprice I hate how the headlights come to a point where they meet the bottom of the grill, it has such clean round lines and then sharp headlights, not very attractive

Re: 2011 Caprice
Word on the street is that brakes durability, small-ish trunks, and the lack of fleet keys are all problems, otherwise they have more power and are better suited to being thrown around than both the CVPI and Impala.... I saw some complaints on a few LEO forums about leaky transmissions, but my secondhand information came from a sample size of less than 10 vehicles barely 10,000 miles old. |

Re: 2011 Caprice
I'm almost going to make a bet right now that it will be a production car available to the public in 2012 once the public sounds off about the car. It's built on the Zeta platform so essentially it's a G8. GM would be stupid not to build this car and sell it to the public at an affordable price. That was the worst thing about the G8 is the way they marketed it and the price.

Re: 2011 Caprice
I agree, if GM makes it as a fleet vehicle and can see how the production costs are and whatnot I can easily see them selling it to the public. If the G8 wasn't in a higher price range it'd be nice to see more than Chargers and 300s on the road as the only fullsize rwd cars, although, my gf's dad has a 300 and it is a pretty cool car lol

Re: 2011 Caprice
they look too much like a damn impalla, and liek said above somewhere if they make it police only and "undercover" its going to stick out like a sore thumb. cop cars are easy to spot nowadays anyways...

Re: 2011 Caprice
That design has been oout for a while now. It has been the Holden Statesman and its been a Chevy Caprice in the middle east for a while now. Its on a LWB Zeta. The G8 was on the SWB version.

Re: 2011 Caprice
I remember when Ford announced the end of the Crown Vic Dodge and Chevy both jumped to PSP and started sending reps to the academy to explain their new car ideas, and Chevy was talking about in 2011 expecting a rear-wheel drive car...
Seems like its at least been in some peoples minds for a while.. |

Re: 2011 Caprice
my dealership has stayed afloat financially on the cop fleet sales alone, for a long time. We also install the police package though, so maybe that helps.
