Just gathering parts now, found these, I like that they have regular looking bushings, would they be ok for handling? I see they say they will lay 22's
I'm not interested in that, I'm just looking for a decent handling daily driving S10. Will they be to heavy? Will they be to long?
Looking for the professionals opinion's. Thanks
Not sure on the geometry but they're way too expensive for something with no handling engineering behind them. If you want high-end parts, go with something from UMI, Spohn, BMR, ect. and pay less for something designed for a handling application.
the only thing that makes an arm a "handing" arm is that they are shorter than stock to get static camber where it should be for a "handling" alignment and to change the camber curve. to my knowledge, no one makes an arm that changes caster.
i dont know what you mean by regular bushings, but those are poly.
heavy? hell yes, they look like they weigh 20 lbs each.
and they still dont have droop stops
it also appear they come with pro forged ball joints, in the standard (not tall) variety. huge fail...
but its really not a bad price for arms like that with poly and proforged.
i dont know why everyone goes for arms first for a handling package, they are literally the highest hanging fruit in front suspension mods for these trucks. there is so much more to be gained from things that are 1/5 the price.
Thanks for the response, I looked at the metal works, they look more like they are for
bags or whatever. And the speedway uppers looks like they use the delrum or whatever they are called and I think I have read they wear out to quick, I will put plenty of miles on this pickup.
The main reason I am looking for tubular uppers is for clearance, my #2 tube on the hedders has maybe a 1/4 inch clearance at the rear most part of the stock arm, I made
my own engine mounts and trans. crossmember so I could set the engine as far back and as low as I could get it, I am using the Holley oil pan and still notched the top of the crossmember to get the engine low.
So if it is going to have a little more power might as well make it handle a little better.
I have been reading other threads and planning on tall upper and lower ball joints, doing the brake conversion hi_im_sean sells, was thinking about boxing the lower control arms
but I read it's not really worth it, making sure the sway bar is at the right angle, not sure on shocks yet, still gathering parts for now.
Seems like I read something about you can use the later model tie rods and stuff on the earlier bodys, they are bigger in diameter? but same taper?
hi_im_sean send me a price on the hybrid brackets only, I sent you a p.m. Thanks
oh and by regular looking bushings I meant not the delrum or whatever they are called
O.k. think I have settled on these. I think, unless somebody has a better option.
they say about the better ball joint location, and you can use the tall balljoints.
and look at that, they moved the plate back for more caster. ive seen those arms before, i just dont remember reading that part lol. make sure you take it to someone who will follow your alignment specs. if you align it to stock specs, theres a chance you may make your #2 clearance even worse.
Those arms will do you well. Sean nailed it though, upper arms are one of the last things I would worry about when doing a item by item upgrade. But headers clearance trumps that selection process haha. Those UMI's are nice pieces though. FWIW I went with SC&C's 2+ package. Adjustable arms so you can dial in your caster and camber to pretty much whatever you want within practical limits. And allows you to have two alignments in one. I run no shims for my street alignment, then slam in a couple shims when I want to get serious. Comes with the best factory style balljoints on the market right now too for a wicked price.
Let us know how you like these when you have them installed!
I will, I plan on starting a build thread when I get around to actually get serious about working on it, just gathering parts that I know I need, then when I think I have everything I will start and find out how many more parts I need.
You can get an Idea how close the arms are here. Just in the mock up stage now, engine not even put together. I just finished the mounts here.
I got them in the mail today and had to put them on just for the fun of it, Still lots and lots of cleaning and painting, just in the mock up and gathering
parts stage.
You said you were going to be putting some miles on this machine, so now that you have had the umi A-arms installed for a while, how do you like them?
Noticeable improvement? Were their provided alignment settings correct?
Would you recommend them? I am still undecided between the umi upper/lower kit or the ridetech tru turn system. Both kits look to be quality pieces, but I haven't found anyone sporting the G-body tru turn system on their S10.
I would love to hear your impressions of the umi A-arms.
I wish I could give some feedback, just ordered rod bearings for the engine, It will be awhile before those arms will see duty. I am still in the gathering parts stage, and I plan on stages, 1st. ls1 with carb and 700r4 2nd. replace 700 with t56 3rd. frame out of my other s10 with all of the upgrades, brakes, suspension, wheels and tires, narrowed 8.8
stock rear frame rails moved in for 17x11 wheels.
It's getting close the engine will be finished soon, waiting on new stainless works headers to get here, don't have a clue when they will get here from current, his website
is not user friendly as far as I can tell. The 700 is ready to go, I have the t56, just need to rebuild it, I have most of the stuff for the frame, the rails are already moved in, I have a 8.5 axle already narrowed but I found some different wheels I like better, so that will require a different size rear and I think I will go with 8.8 so the rear will have disks
already.
