tyson's bodydrop

started a thread on this but i used a name that was taken like 3 times, sorry admin/mods please delete old thread.

Anyways im Trad. BDing this truck, bagging it of course, doing all the bodywork, and aiming for a 5.3 swap with a t56 trans. This build will go as fast as funds come along. On with some pictures...

My Buddy Dustin^

Parts i have include:
Sd.com 3link (on the way)
4 slam Re-7s
2" belltech drop spindles
Sd.com upper cups, going to plate and de hump lower arms
filler plates, drag blocks, and other misc odds and ends

This is to hopefully make this thing a roller after the bodydrop. I will be taking the bed to school and doing the bodywork on it. Will probably be a slow build but cool none the less.

Re: tyson's bodydrop

Did some bodywork today, can someone tell me what the best size sheet to use for the fillers on my cab after the the bodydrop??

The bed had some huge dents in it, i still have like 50 more to pull out if i didnt need so many more parts i would have just started with a different one

Its officially spring break so no more bodywork until school resumes, should be BDing the cab in about 2-3weeks.

Looks like you're on a roll. I want to BD mine but I don't even have the time to do simple stuff. I'll live through everyone on here doing body drops. Keep them pics coming.

But like i said about 2-3 weeks it will be getting cut im going out to finish gutting the cab right now. Will have pics up later.

Re: tyson's bodydrop

Got the bed all down to primer just gotta do some more detailed sanding then metel to metal and some polyester filler then it will be getting a couple coats of 2k primer like the fenders. Going to shave the gas door and antenna hole on fender as soon as i get some filler plates made up So bed wont get primed until that happens I will have to respray the one fender after i shave it.

There was about 7 mils on all the panels so its def been repainted took a lot of time with the DA just to get it down to primer lol. Will continue Monday. I need a welder to finish stripping my cab, the seatbelt anchor bolts dont wanna come out for nothing so im going to weld nuts on top of the bolt heads.

Re: tyson's bodydrop

Yeah thats my friend Bobbys truck He shaved the window and a lot of other stuff. He is a mini truck fanatic shits like instilled in his blood lol. Its lookin a lot better know than it was im pretty sure hes going to put it on pink primer next week or so.

Shaved body line, wiper cowl, mirrors, rear window, door handles etc etc. It has 20's a entire boxed and painted frame with a crazy fuel cell holder setup, Had a range rover front end but he took it off until he can fab it up the right way that he wants it to look, but it was no bolt on kit its all authentic rover parts.

Re: tyson's bodydrop

So here is my most recent game plan.

HRF hot rod red paint (for now) lol
350 and 700r4 or wait forever and get a 5.3 & T56
20' wheels black with lip 8.5" in front 10" wide or bigger in back
side exit exhaust with old school flame thrower setup (if carbed v8 goes in)
full sheet metal interior with car paint and roll cage
SFBD or trad depending on resources also moving cab back .75" (garage)

These are just some main ideas. Opinions are welcome here.

Either motor will get upgraded as time moves on but not sure what i wanna do there the 350/700r4 would be so much cheaper and easier to do but a fuel injected v8 and a 6 speed would almost be worth the wait. What do you think?

They are from a stud gun, you weld them on then use a t handle or a slide happer to pull the dents out. Cut em off grind em down and do your filler work. It works great on areas you can't use a dolly and hammer combination on. I obviously used a lot of studs do to how bad the warpage was. . Plus im still a noob with it really but i got most of it pulled out, then spread some metal 2 metal on it. About 2 layers of polyester filler and it will be good as new.

Re: tyson's bodydrop

Getting there man, when you are shaving stuff like the gas door cut the recessed area out to a circle shape and butt the filler piece to the bedside. There is plenty of room to hammer and dolly the backside. Much easier than using a stud gun.

I never thought about cutting that out, it would of helped a lot lol. As for the hammer and dolly i was really just trying to use a dolly to bang the dent out from the back and couldnt get much of a swing to do anything to it. . If i would of used the hammer with it, then it would have stretched the metal out right? Its already thin enough lol thanks for the advice though.

Yeah you would use a dolly on the backside to bump the stretched metal back up, the problem with the recessed areas is that they stiffen the metal up a lot from the sharp bends. Cutting that out makes it much easier.

Re: tyson's bodydrop

Bed is fixed i also fixed the bent ass front panel of the bed no pics of it though its still a little crooked but looks much better than it did previously

I ordered a brand new 220 volt Lincoln pro MIG 180 welder model#k2481-1 for $500 shipped was this a good deal? Its the best price i have found personally for a brand new in box unit. . It welds 3/16 SP on gas so Im sure i can burn through some 1/4 with it as well, I plan to do body work and a SFBD with it and whatever else comes along. .
