Re: Project V8 S10 SS

the frame horns on a 98+ are slightly different than a 94-97. I used to put washers underneith thelower mounts so the bumper was spaced up enough.

Re: Project V8 S10 SS

Redsdime - Thanks it came out good, just need to wet sand and buff. The original engine was a 4.3 so all the bracket swap over to the small block. I sand blasted and powder coated them in platinum.

lowdime96 - Mine didnt sit too low, it was to high. The lower edge of the grille just hits the bumper now after fitting it.

Re: Project V8 S10 SS

Wheels and tires are mounted and installed!! Got the brake lamp issue fixed, hood is back on and adjusted. Fuel gauge sending unit shorted out so now that needs to be replaced, at least it was before the bed went back on. Speedo cable replaced also. Waiting for different springs for the front to come in and my cold air intake system too.

Re: Project V8 S10 SS

Got it running again finally. Summit replaced the carb. b/c it wouldn't start cold and I replaced the plugs b/c they were soaked with fuel. Had to replace the fuel gauge sender b/c it shorted and the gauge read full all the time. The box will be put back on Wednesday and the new windshield is being installed Tuesday.

I got a single 4" carb snorkel for the cold air intake and just waiting on the tubing to come in the mail now. Once all the little things are done which should be in a week or so I can finally get it on the road!

Re: Project V8 S10 SS

Eric85 - Thanks, it's been a long road and im almost done! I took the whole unit out and replaced all the brake lines with a kit from inline tube. It was a stainless steel line kit for a 93 S10. I was able to use the stock prop. valve and mod. the lines a little to make it all work. Ill get some pics. of the master cyl. area so you can see what I did too.

Re: Project V8 S10 SS

Here are a couple pics of the brake lines by the master cylinder and under the hood. A little dusty I need to wash everything down one more time.

Pulled the 550# springs today and installed the 350#. This is what it looked like before adjusting the ride height. The lower spring seat was all the way down and it tucked the front tires by an inch or so. The fender height was about 23.5 inches haha. Set the ride height at about 24.5 inches

Re: Project V8 S10 SS

WTRacing - I got the springs right front Summit. I cross ref. them from QA1's website to make sure they were right.

After about 2 hours of tracing wiring for the brake lamp issue I found the brake lamp switch was not sending power to the turn signal switch but sending power to the 3rd brake lamp. GM must had have run out of white wire that was supposed to be used and switched to a brown wire at the column for the brake lamps. There must be a wire splice behind the dash that is broke and isnt powering the turn signal switch. Ran an overlay and now everything is all good.

Cold air intake tubing came last night and it fits like its from the factory. Pics will be coming on Sunday. The bed is back on along with all the trim, so only a few more days untill its on the road.

Re: Project V8 S10 SS

Its almost done! Basically everything under the hood is complete, I had to replace the wiper transmission b/c one tap on each mount was broke and it aloud the pass. wiper arm to hit the windshield. Air intake is done and fits awesome. Now just need to put the tailpipes on and go through to make sure everything is tight.

Re: Project V8 S10 SS

Well since the grease boot on the upper steering shaft joint melted I was forced to put a billet Flaming River joint on ;-)

Not hard at all either. 1" DD x 3/4" DD joint just for reference also. Here is a little how to:

Remove steering shaft. Pry the four tabs up holding the boot and joint on.

Cut the top of the shaft off and bevel the edges (makes install easier)

Drill dimples in the lower shaft for the set screws and install in joint. Use lock tight so they dont work loose. Clean up the steering column end and slide the joint on. One set screw will go into the hole so it wont slide off and tighten the other one on the shaft.

Stand back and admire your work!! It took about an hour to do and now no worries about grease dripping on the header and starting a fire!

Installed the 94 front valance so I can still have fog lights. The old ones are shot so I has a set of halogen lamps from Harbor Freight that are the same size with a mounting bolt on them. Drilled a hole in the valance and wired them up. Ill have to aim them down and out so I dont blind oncoming drivers.

Tailgate and roll pan installed.

Ill get some pics of the fog lights tomorrow. Cant see how they work yet b/c the old switch is junk, so there is another trip to the parts store.

Re: Project V8 S10 SS

Thanks guys. Well mostly everything is finished up maybe just a few things need to be done but nothing that wont keep it from going down the road. Just a little tip for everyone on insurance, American Collectors will insure a vehicle 15 years or older as a classic. As long as you have another vehicle as your primary driver you can get classic insurance on a 94 or older.

I just switched my primary insurance to a new agency who deal with American Collector b/c they have to insure your primary vehicle also. Im saving $130 a year on my primary car and will pay $200 a year for the truck!

Re: Project V8 S10 SS

Thanks guys! This thing drive AWESOME!!! the suspension is nice and stiff but not jarring, trans shifts firm, maybe a little too hard, but im good with it. Engine runs great, tons of throttle response and pulls hard even in 3rd.

I just need to get some tailpipes on it b/c it resonates bad in the cab at highway speeds and its loud and f**k. I was driving through the village the other day and set some guys car alarm off on the side of the road haha.

My truck sets off car alarms too The truck is coming along great, and I love the attention to detail. I'm also curious to see how the Speedway UCAs hold up; I've been considering these for my truck as well.

Re: Project V8 S10 SS

blownss98 - they ride awesome! I swapped to 350# springs so I could get the front end lower and b/c the 550# springs felt like they were going to ride like a brick. I have the shocks on the 8th setting and it rides tight. Depends on how the roads are around you but on a country road in the middle of no where you will feel every little bump and crack in the road. I could prob. drop the shocks a few clicks but why would i want to do that haha.

Washed the truck quick today and took some new pics. I still havent wet sanded or buffed it, that will be this winters project.

Thanks. No new projects for right now but this winter im going to do a few more things on the truck. Iv got a full length overhead console Im going to install, I have to shorten it about six inches. Im going to remove the display and fiberglass a dual gauge pod for a wide-band and trans temp gauge.

I was thinking about getting a bolt in three/four link and installing coilovers in the rear. Iv got a few ideas for that but untill i feel like spending another $1000 it will have to wait.

So far so good. I need to get one more coat of polish on them and wax too, ill do that over the winter. I think the polished aluminum looks better than chrome on this b/c its not as flashy.
