Re: Project: sport handling on a college budget

here's a somewhat better pic of the new mirrors...took it w/ the camera phone.

...and i picked these up today:

98+ blazer dual piston caliper setup. $43 from the local pick n' pull.

probably won't put these on till Christmas time, i'm debating on getting a set of tall ball joints or at least a tall lower or tall upper, but i'm not sure it i would need a new UCA to do it.

Re: Project: sport handling on a college budget

He was planning on buying the hubs anyway, so I dont think he'll be too bummed. I wouldn't be surprised if they're still good though. Mine are still kickin at 151k.

I think the ATS spindles are only 1" off... in the right direction. The only thing holdin me back from those is the $1k price tag. lol

got one painted tonight.

3 coats of VHT gold caliper paint and 3 coats of VHT clear

clear messed up on the front but i'm just gonna let it slide. trying to decide if i want to leave the bracket black or paint it gold too.

had to straighten out the dust shields, they were dented from the blazer sitting on them. lol

Re: Project: sport handling on a college budget

hmm...somethings missing...

lol

i also found out why they say to trim the dust shields when you lower these things. the LCA was stuck in the shield, it had actually cut a groove in it. so now i'm gonna cut the new ones before they go on.

also those studs for the UCAs are a pain in the rear. one side hit the motor mount, the other hit the exhaust and wouldn't let the cross shaft come off. lol

Re: Project: sport handling on a college budget

Those blazer brakes should do you nicely, they're pretty beefy.
I remember my first serious 70-0 in my blazer once I got my corvette wheels on (stock brakes), it was the first time in a car my eyes had trouble focusing properly while braking.

Also they hold up to heat pretty damn well, I used to cook mine on downhill windy roads with my almost full-weight blazer until one of the rotors got so heated it started to become untrue and sometimes smoke, when they got that hot I turned far enough to one side in a tight bend I'd hear scraping lol. LOTS of windy miles, a few autocrosses and still rocking my front stockers. I went with black paint myself.

Re: Project: sport handling on a college budget

for future reference, blazer brake lines will not work on trucks. fitting is a different size from the hard line. i got my stock lines to work, kinda iffy though, i might look into a custom set of lines down the road.

A BIG special thanks goes out to JJSpec Automotive for helping me out the past 2 days.

drivers side is done, ran into some trouble on the pass side. should have it all together before its time to open presents. lol

Re: Project: sport handling on a college budget

It looks like the brake line might potentially get pinched between the caliper and the UCA while turning and maybe hitting a bump (up a driveway or something similar).

I went with Moog problem solver bushings and lower ball joints.
the upper ball joints were just master pros.

cost me like $170 for teh suspension stuff, which is more than i have in the brakes all together i believe. lol
