Re: Project: sport handling on a college budget

I hadn't checked this thread in a while since I'm usually updated on your truck anyway. Once I replace a tie rod end and DS wheel bearing, I wanna head to one of those AutoX events with you. Mostly for shits and giggles, but it looks like a lot of fun. Maybe I'll get my friend's dad to bring his porsche out...

Re: Project: sport handling on a college budget

heres a pic of it from the summer showdown. it was the first time i've ever actually entered a car show, didn't win anything of course...you know how it goes, ya gotta have bags, 1000000 watts of speakers, etc to win. but i had a good time hanging out w/ the S-clusive gang.

and as a bonus:

Re: Project: sport handling on a college budget

finally got around to doing some things i should have done after i lowered it almost 2 years ago...cutting out the rear bumpstop brackets. which is pretty fun btw, makes for a pretty fireworks show. hahaha

also trying to remove my driveline vibration without spending much....probably gonna order a JTR axle setback plates and their standard cab alignment kit. although i don't know how to use the shims that come with it....the pin on my blocks is too short to fit a shim on and sticking the shim below the block would probably really throw it off. i might just try to make my own 3/4" transmission spacer and see how it goes....

Re: Project: sport handling on a college budget

i used a air cut off tool, a chisel and hammer, and an electric grinder, and a little hacksaw action....i'm actually not done, i only got one side done. the wheel wore down too small and turns out it was the last one we had so i'll have to wait till tomorrow to finish.

i'm gonna run uptown before work tomorrow and pick up a set of universal bump stops and some more rattle cans. i've been giving it the el-cheapo quicky restoration. haha

Re: Project: sport handling on a college budget

When I cut mine out I cut through the bracket right flush with the frame, i didnt bother cutting on the welds cause i didnt want to actually cut through the frame. I used a 4 1/2" grinder with a cutoff wheel, a grinding disk to get it flush, a BFH, and a crowbar lol

Re: Project: sport handling on a college budget

thanks man.

i still haven't gotten the other bumpstop cut off yet....been real busy.
axle setback plates should be here this week, and i'm thinkin about making my own transmission spacer to help the alignment.

shuuuuuuuuuut up.

^ true story, found my vibration. one bolt was gone and the other was loose on the transmission mount.
also put the set back plates in, i have to give props to JTR/Stealth conversions cause they are great pieces and came in a hurry. i spaced the transmission up about a 1/2" to help get the driveline in better alignment, seems to have fixed the problems so far.

I'll bet I have too many creaks and moans and knocks to even pass inspection. However, I do have grease and a tie rod end that might fix those problems... its just a matter of me putting that on.

they dont check for creaks...so quit your moaning.

1. make sure battery is held down
2. floormat is removed
3. wheels are on tight
4. inside of truck is clean (no stuff lying around)

Re: Project: sport handling on a college budget

Awesome truck man, I remember reading this thread a long time ago. Your truck looks just like my old 2.2 ZQ8, I had Falkens on it also. Its amazing how well these little trucks handle. Although I traded that 2.2 truck for a 4.3 and now I have a lot more power and less handling cause its not lowered. That will come right after I get my Jeep project to pass VA inspection.

Re: Project: sport handling on a college budget

Sounds like fun. I'll have to do my own little inspection under the front end this week and make sure everything is in order. I'll do some greasing too since that doesn't require an alignment afterwards.

it's a 3 and 3 & 3/8" drop w/ the setback plates i put on it.

not much to update on lately, think i'm gonna order an ebay intake for it next week. see if i can paint those blue couplers black.

if i ever get around to going to a junkyard i want to pull a 56mm tb and clean it up.

Re: Project: sport handling on a college budget

got the intake on the other day, when i get some free time i'll do some clean up to the engine, since you can see it now. lol

i'd still like to get some black couplers for it. oh, and if your wondering, i bent and cut the mounting bracket and used the open hole on the a/c compressor as a mount. with out it the intake would rattle on the compressor and probably hit the belt.

we had a S-clusive meet this weekend, heres a pic i took of it.

Hows the intake as far as extra pick-up? Judging from your stock setup I imagine it freed up the flow considerably.

Wish I'd have made it to the meet but I had a lot goin on that day.

it's adds a little on the top end, but mostly is just louder. my stock intake had the silencer removed w/ a k&n and a cut box though so i'd imagine the swap from totally stock to the intake would be more noticeable.
