i got this truck a year ago i only get to work on it after hours at work and sundays if i have time
i'm a red seal certified fabricator and i'm paying for this with side jobs and over time only any way on to some pics
no pictures today but i got my driveshaft shortened and put in a order at QAR so im going to finish what i can untill that comes in and in the mean time ill either start the sheet metal in the box or work on finishing the interior as far as wheels go im going to use the stock rims for now and when i have some money to spend im going to look for gray boss 338's
or chrome kmc novas in 18'' or 18/20 if i find a deal ill even go 20's
went and worked on my truck today and i happened to have a length of 2x4x3/16 on the shelf so i built my notches i will finish it in the morning then ill be ready to mount my air tank then when the brackets i ordered come in i can start the lift bars for the 5 link while im waiting i have to pull the interior and notch the cab for the drive shaft im only 1/2'' from laying right now so i could probally just take a sledge to it but im looking for some 18's or 20's so ill do it right the first time around
started by cutting the frame off after i made a cardboard layout of the notch
well thats what i got done today it took about 5 hrs most of the time is in making the notchs since my band saw doesnt do angles i had to zip cut them but it turned out fine
so i went in to work early today and finished up the frame all thats left is to take out the temporary cross members and replace them with something better let me know what you think
stayed late friday and saterday night i had to take the interior out to notch the cab for the drive shaft and i took the day off work today to run around and find some parts so now i have a complete interior luckly my interior guy is back around so im going to drop off what i got today and pick up whatever is finished also stopped at work and ran new wiring for my door speakers and got the dash put back together i just need to bolt in the seatbelts bolt the seats down and build a console
the subs back in and wired upafter notching for the drive shaft im relocating my battery to the back somewhere so i put a waterproof firewall bushing behind and under the seat
if i get a chance ill finish the interior before i get more parts in then i can finish the rear suspension and start the bed
got my speaker grills back from upholstry the other day im not sure if i like them so i think i might get him to redo them
my order from qar came in last week but i didnt have time to cross the border to pick it up untill yesterday so today on lunch i made frame brackets for my 5 link and welded them on i also welded the axle brackets on then i stayed late and built link bars
so now i need to make bag mounts a bridge bar and mount the air tank its going where it is in the last pic i just need to raise it a bit to clear the link bars the tank and link bars will be powder coated when ever i get the bag mounts done
i also ordered metal for the box 1 length of 1x2x.100
3 lengths of 1x1 x.83 a sheet of 16 gauge an a sheet of 18 gauge
got to work on my truck on saterday for alittle while i only had time to make my tank mounts tho and i wanted to get more done so i took today off work and built most of the bag mounts
i just have to weld everything add a crossmember and make a battery mount then plum my brakes and air then im moving on to finishing the bed
That is Nice!! I got one question though. Did you sleeve the tubing where the bag mount is? Im not if it needs it or not, but it looks like there will be a lot of pressure there.
thanks for the comments guys and yes i did sleeve the tubing it probally would have been fine since the bag mount will act as a gusset but it's not worth skipping for the minit it takes and the .75 cents in tube
if i have time i will weld it up today and throw the bags in i want to see how much lift i will get then i might figure out some shock mounts
thanks for the comments guys not to much today but i welded up the bag mounts between jobs and put the bags in on a ball valve to check out how much lift i get and measuring from the bottom of the notch to the top of the axle i get 11 inches at 125 psi on shop air l
im not really sure when ill have time to work on this again i have a pretty big side job to finish this week if im lucky there will be enough profit to buy rims. i talked to my interior guy today and he said my material is in at his supplyer so i might get my door panels back this week but knowing him it will be next week so as soon as i get caught up i will be back at it unless i have more slow days at work
thanks man being a ticketed fabricator my limitations seem to be cash and equipment since i work in a really small shop and im the only one that welds or does fab work and i only have a torch, plasma cutter, welders, sheet metal break and a ghetto hydralic press i had the tube bent up at a local race car chassis builders it cost 200 between tube and his time
and im probally going with 18'' boss 338's in gray i can get them locally for 152 a rim im thinking about going 20'' in the rear i just need to borrow a set to see if they clear
nothing major today cut out the bed floor maybe if i finish my rear brake lines and bleed the brakes ill pull it off the hoist and throw the box on for a picture
i havent got to much done but i did get the brakes hooked up and set the bed on i lost my camera tho and ive been home sick with pneumonia for the second time since the start of febuary so all ive done is order a few parts i have two kinetik hc600 on the way and some billet cup holders and my wife is ordering me lower control arms tommorow for my birthday hopefully they get here in time
