Those pieces are getting water jet out of 3/16 plate. Then i will be boxing in the rails with 2" cold rolled flat bar to make it look like a mandrel bent piece. One side has a notch in it for the fuel cell and the other doesn't. so technically im going to recive 4 pc's. 2 for the left and 2 for the right. i just didn't bother to put the top and bottom plate on cause its pretty straight forward.

Re: Project: Metal Head

hey man, the build looks good, and you got some clean work going on. jsut one thing i noticed and want to point out to save you from some headaches later.. i see your front drive shaft is perfectly level. seems like it would be right, but you are going to run in to a problem called "berlinning" this is where the u-joint is spinngin with out having to compensate for a change in angle. this will cause it to wear out very quickly. if you can shim up your carrier jsut to put the shaft on at least 3-5 degres or so, you will save alot of time changing out that front u-joint time and time again. good luck man

Re: Project: Metal Head

I don't understand(prolly cause I'm so old) You want to have it as close to "0" as possible but not at 0. How will "0" wear it out if it's straight? I see 3/4 ton trucks driving around here all the time with a 6 inch lift kit and I don't hear of them changing u-joints and there angle is way out to lunch. I'm not saying your wrong as I have heard others who know what they are talking about and they say the same thing, it's just that I don't understand why.

Well you learn something everyday. Thanks

Got more of an update. Went for a drive over the holidays to see Troy at BBT fab and after some discussion i changed the look a little bit as well as worked out my angle problem. The rear rails are being waterjet right now, my 22's are on there way and my shop is almost done ......well heres the pics

Re: Project: Metal Head

thats a wicked program and design but i have a question. ive seen a few designs where the bag inflates and because of the pivots allow the bag to move/twist, what will stop the bag from inflating and "rolling" out the desired movement? the bottom obviously will not rotate/pivot because of the stationary mounting but the top is pivoted......... anyone??
i have a pic of a bag that was sorta this idea and the bag is crazy screwed up when it was inflated. i'll try and find the pic

Re: Project: Metal Head

Good point slappy,

i would just make a solid mount to those canit's. The only time that there will be an issue is at full lift because the bag center will be in 2 different locations.

But it looks like you have a very big bag plate on the top. SO you may not have issues because the area is spread over the whole bag.

But, your prob never gona roll around donked out.

Re: Project: Metal Head

ya guys this is exactly what me and troy talked about when i went to champaigne illinois, the new design up there is a solid top and bottom mount. This explains the reason for the angle on the bottom bracket. At this angle, when the cantilever goes up the angle almost directly above it. it has a small angle in the bag when its inflated but not huge. The program i use allows me to move the suspension up and down to see how everything works. And thats "app" the best one "so far"

Re: Project: Metal Head

beforfe u make those solid mounts i saw somewhere else on the forum that some 1 made a minilink, its kinda hard to explian but with a link mounted to the canti bar and connected to the upper bag mount that is parellel to the pivot, basically its like making a mini parellel 4 link outta it, that way the bag would be stretched in any way and for the most part move only in a vertical direction

idk i think itd be hella cool and keep the whole linked and pivot theme goin and itd only take a small moding to do

jus my $.02 but i think it looks great man, ive been following every update, good luck with it

ok so busy as fack at the shop with front end swaps, baggin ramblers, custom exhausts etc. leaves me enough time to look at my tuck beofre the end of the night so that sucks. But i do have the final drawing of the suspension all the parts are coming in or are in. Heres a couple to look at...

yeah 1963 AMC RAMBLER 2 dr coupe with 23000 original miles! i asked the customer if he was crazy...! lol its being bagged right now. I made a custom kit so that the bags replace the springs but you can switch them out to keep factory settings again. It acutally is working out quite nice. the fronts bagged and back is half done. heres the link:

I agree, however everything else looks top notch, if you did some kinda of rounded DOM tube c-member that would be that much better.

Hey ya i thought i was a little out of place in there. I think im going to leave that till after im done the frame rails. I want to incorperate somethin to make it match.

Besides that my wheels are in! Rockstar 22" x 8.5" Chrome wheels with paintable wheel covers so i can two or three tone my wheels to match my frame and body. Then Kumho Ecsta 245/30/22's wrapping them. I set the fender on the wheel just to get an idea of how much it tucks. Let me know what ya think>>

And me on the phone?

Re: Project: Metal Head

Looks sweet man! I like the faceplates so you can go from chrome to black rims pretty easy!

Those are tuckin nice, but there gona truck more when you set up the fron cause your gona get camber and thats gona make em push up mor einto the fender, so there gona truck harder

Re: Project: Metal Head

well obviously, its just to get the idea ha lol i just want to finish it now, ha the rambler just needs to have the rear bags setup finished (like a couple hours of work) then the body will be worked as im working on my truck frame! Then a have a floor to put in a 80's chev pickup at the start of the week so i basicly only have this weekend to get the rails done, and then i can fit them up and setup the rear assembly. The front horns is the only other thing im redoing, so once that is done its ready for paint
