Re: Project--->LT1 swap and alittle more goodies!
did you just say 5000 bucks? if so, he needs some sense slapped into him, cuz that is f**kin ridiculous! i understand the level of work involved, but seriously!? when i do a big project for someone (and i mean during shop hours) i throw hourly rates out the window, cuz it gets unfair..... if you spend 3 hrs. doing something that should take 1, cuz ur bsing, or taking ur time, or making it look pretty, it should honestly cost around 1 hrs. labor, 2 at most... like honestly, thats unfair as hell.... and for him to charge 50 an hr. is nuts.... its a side project! and like said above, he doesnt make 50 an hr..... it should be more like 20 if hes gonna count every minute.

Obviously you're a young guy - but don't let him push you around because you are young. Next time you'll know to come up with an hourly rate ahead of time. Then put a CAP on the hours - NOT TO EXCEED XXX hours. That way you don't have this "surprise" happen. |

Man, I've been watching this for sometime now. It looks good and I'm glad for you that it's coming to an end!
But Jesus H Christ, 5K just in labor, that dude needs his head examined! This is a side job, it shouldn't cost more than 2K for the labor. |

Re: Project--->LT1 swap and alittle more goodies!
the problem is that people think that their time is worth more than it is..... i really wanna see how this turns out, cuz 5k is by far too much.... you know if i did this job at my shop, and u paid shop time, i dont think it would come to anywhere near 5k, and we charge 90/hr

Re: Project--->LT1 swap and alittle more goodies!
well today is a new day and i was alittle frustrated yesterday so maybe i was taking a joke to the heart. I mean, i really dont know what he is going to charge. He kids around alot and i dont know when hes playing around vs. being serious. So i dont know. But like i said before, i dont want to make this become a situation that it shouldnt get to. I want to pay him for the job that he has done and not feel like he owns me for life. Because right now, I dont have half of that, and ihave not spent money on anything. I mean anything, i went to the movies twice since this build started and thats been the highlights of me spending money on things other than wat is needed for this swap. ANd the other reason i dont want to make a big agrument towards hotdog is because i dont want to be the ignorant to him. I am a big Puss when it comes to this. But by all mean s i dont want my whole life savings gone down the drain. I have and i mean it, maybe a grand to my name, and that is absolutely not being touch because i need it for ''emergency'' reasonsn. |

Sorry bud, but it sounds like he maybe keeping the truck. Don't think a 'G' is going to get you that far. Talk to him, see if you can work out a payment plan. Like a 'G' upfront then 200 or so a week or month untill it's payed off. |

Then he said he has about a "g" in his "lifetime savings." I agree that the grammar wasn't so great but I'm 99% sure that's what he's said over the past few posts. |

Re: Project--->LT1 swap and alittle more goodies!
bro, i honestly feel bad for you here, because this is unfair, and i am like you, where i cant argue/bargain with people..... but in all honesty, i put twice as much effort into my lt1 t56 swap (really i didnt mean that in a bad way) and i wouldnt feel comfortable charging someone more than 2 grand.... just to clarify, i meant that i had the motor apart, speed parts, body shop painted the block same blue as truck, body shop painted all accessory brackets, etc. etc., so that wasnt a shot at you at all

well, just tell him that u know he spent the time, and the work is good, but that is a little unreasonable (understatement of the century) tell him you were assuming it to be a lot lower....

ok....I will try it. But i dunno if i will discuss it today or later on cuz i dont want to spend the time now on conversating when we could be building this thing back to its running state. just got off the phone iwth him and hes got the front painted but no clear to go on today due to the rain and humidity. And he is going to try to get the rear frame sprayed tomorrow i believe. But i wil have pics when i go down there. |

Re: Project--->LT1 swap and alittle more goodies!
well went over today to work on the truck and take a bunch of pix, but found out when i got there that i left the camera on all night and it was dead. So you hvae to wait for pics til maybe tomorrow. But we got stuff done. I cut a piece of sheetmetal and siliconed/riveted the old shifter hole closed. We also got the rear brake lines replaced since they were rusted. And as for tomorrow, the core support, inner fenders, battery tray, steering shaft and the brackets for the radiator support to be cleared. And the rear frame will be based/cleared tomorrow too.
So for whats left to do is: -bolt on the calipers on the rear while putting new pads in -connect rear brake hoses -custom fit ebrake for the rear -connect P/S lines -shorten clutch rod and reconnect it -put front back together and connect radiator hoses -mount the electric fans -hook up the last 10% of the Current Perforamnce wiring harness up. -mount computer in the engine bay -hook battery back up -run custom CAI Quite a bit left to do, but some of it shouldnt be much. I will be able to do the wirring harness, the CAI, the battery, the radiator hoses, ect. And i will let Hotdog do the difficult stuff, lol. But we are still trying to be optomistic about getting it done soon, really soon. |

Re: Project--->LT1 swap and alittle more goodies!
will know today, havent been there since saturday due to work. but he said the front end is completely cleared and same goes fro the rear half of th eframe. So I hope today is mounting everything back into place including coresupport, a/c condenser, radiator, wheel tubs, and hopefullly the electric fans. And btw, we thought it would look pretty good if we sprayed all the bolts flat black to offset all the glossy black, i media blasted it or w/e its called than he shot them with paint sunday. SO it should be good to go. And i would think we can route the radiator hoses since he said they fit very good. will have pics this time too, forgot to charge the camera friday night, so thats why no pics of the core support and all painted. Re: Project--->LT1 swap and alittle more goodies!
And i am really wanting to here this puppy run....yesterday we went to Autozone and i ddint like what we wre doin, but for right now i have to do it b/c of money. But we were buying exhaust pieces for my exhaust. Ended up buying two 2.5 inch 45dgree pipes to run off the shortys, than we will route 2.5 pipe to the CAT and than its just the same setup that u see in the pics above. It will still sound bad ass in my mind, but its not the ''true duals w/ xpipe'' that i wanted. |

Oh, and two other things, the pics dont do justice with the paint, the inside of the fenders dont look great for somereason in these pics, but they came out really good looking.
And LT1s10, you going to go to drptoberfest? I plan to take this thing there. |

And what would u say to use for connecting the MAF sensor to the airfilter? I was told not to do exhaust pipe due to it would get hot with the engine heat. |

You can use exhaust pipe, just rap it with header tape to keep things cool. |

Re: Project--->LT1 swap and alittle more goodies!
went over today and damn, i didnt get home til 7:40pm....thats almost three hrs past the usual. THe reason is we finished up the "temporary" exhaust done. Like isaid, temporary until i have the money for true duals. Well beside that, theres pics of the front calipers painted, pics of the exhaust, and pic of my first time welding....looks like shit but it was my first time and i think its ok. Especially since i couldnt see even when iwas welding, i have shitty eye sight so thats why its goobed at the bottom.
![]() ![]() heres my old intake all done, the rails came out amazing for me not knowing wat the hell to do, ![]() ![]() and my attempt to weld, lol ![]() but unfortunatley since the exhaust fabing took two days, the original ''saturday'' finish date has been moved back a few days. So we are looking at Wed. next week for completion. For wats left, Hotdog said that the clutch situation is the last ''semi big'' obstacle to do, than its just down hill. |

Re: Project--->LT1 swap and alittle more goodies!
went over today and we got the exhaust fully bolted and welded on. It was a bitch to get the header collector bolts on with the exhaust though. And besides that, i got the old rotors and calipers off and i put the new drilled=slotted rotors on upfront. also regreased the bearings and put new seals in. Monday i will finish it up and put the new painted calipers on. Now we areshooting for friday to get this thing up and running. But i want it on the ground by tuesday to check out the stance and the look with the new rotors/calipers and the wheels.

Re: Project--->LT1 swap and alittle more goodies!
Well today went over and got the suspension and brakes 100% done!!! oh yeah!!!! And than dropped the truck on all fours to see how her stance is....and than found out that the UCA hits the header. I was told to maybe use a die grinder and grind off watever is in the way. Well any input is welcome like usual, but pics will be up during Eagles/Cowboys half time, so you will have to wait to see it. But if it wasnt for the UCA, i would be in a great mood....GO EAGLES!! |
