it does sit low, but we have the mount bolts go through the bottom holes, so i think it sits higher than if we used the top slot for the bolt. I dunno

heres a pic of it with the rad support put in Temporarly...

looks good to me. And if you look whre the valve cover is to the a/c box, it sits about right where everyone elses sits.

not yet....It has one more pull out and than the final install. I need to get the firewall painted first, the a/c box enclosed, the air pump bungs welded to the headers/headers coated, put the new intake, the new plugs, the new wires and the frame painted before i can re install the motor for good. But like i said, i want to get the rear in next to see how much the d/s has to be shortened, than while its getting shortened, we can push the rad forward and have the bay ready for the wiring harness.

does that mean at a very slow pace?

Well i see it this way, once the motor is in there for the final time and the spark plugs/wires are on....than most of the big modding should be done.

it sits lower than the average sbc, because that was the purpose of the lt1, they use a dry intake manifold and reverse cooling to be able to have the motor fit in most cars.... its actually 3.5 inches lower overall than a typical sbc

looks good to me either way.

ALright i have been thinking about this so now is the time to ask, since i am getting the fire wall painted the color i will have the rest of the truck painted, which is black....should i paint the a/c box black also, or should i paint it red to kinda break up all the black in the bay? Keep in mind the intake is going to be red, and my air intake tubing is up in the air too, red or black?

black, i really hate "two toned" engine bays, such as non black wiring loom and whatnot, but thats just me, i feel the engine/suspension should be the focal point of the front end of the truck

ya it was just a idea that came into my head. But i probably will do the frame the exact color of the truck, just so the black doesnt look different from the frame to the engine bay. Plus, i am taking out the wheel wells next spring and putting in trailor fenders. So it will clean it up a bit more also.

if your gonna do trailer fenders, it's pretty easy. the stock inner fender is bolted to the fender and the core support. i believe it's 3 bolts on the core support and about 10 to the fender. then just cut the trailer fender to fit and weld it in. it's not hard, but it is a pain in the ass.

Re: Project--->LT1 swap and alittle more goodies!

Alright just got back from theball game tonight. And i got some progress done. Not as much as i would like but we are almost there,

Well today i got no labor charge since i did all the labor today and i was very proud with my lack of knowledge on wat i accomplished. As the list goes, i did a quick sand on the front half of the frame.....although i didnt do the control arms cuz i dont know if i am going to use them or not and i dont want to waste my time if i am not going to use them. I also got the fire wall all sanded down, especially the silicone shit that was caked on the firewall right above the intake. So i had to grind that shit off and than smooth it out. And lastly, I took the motor/tranny out by myself with no help and i am very proud since i only know parts by there name and have a hard enough time doing stuff when it comes to motor swaps and all, lol.....

But anyways, Tomorrow we plan on spraying the firewall, stock wheel wells-->...sorry briggs, no money and no time to wait and fab for trailor fenders, have to wait til next spring, And also spray the whole frame. Also want to get the new spark plugs put in, and cut to fit the MSD ones i got from work so they have a perfect fit and no dangling. So hope to get that done saturday, ajnd monday or tuesday have the mtoor dropped in for the LAST TIME!!!! I will have pics of the itty bitty progress that i did in a little.

Re: Project--->LT1 swap and alittle more goodies!

when u mount everything for the new motor dont mount anything on the inner fenders...itll make it alot easier to remove and put trailer fenders in with the motor still in.

only thing that will be mounted to them is the computer on the passenger side. Thats it. But i think it will make the truck look a lot better with these tubs painted. THey are every different color besides the stock black, lol...brown, white...ect....and alittle black

what time do you think u will be in the area? And i have the custom wiring harness made for it to mount there, i dont want to have any wirings loose, dangling, or bunched up....so i think i am just mounting it there. I mean if its only one thing, that wont be a issue. If it was 2+ thnngs than it would be.

And eventually i would like to do a bit more, but i am in debt with this thing right now, lol....But i would like to get it dyno'd to see wat she turns over power wise....i hope about 300 at the crank

No clear coat yet, tomorrow the firewall definatly will be cleared, but the frame, we dunno...have to wait and see how it looks. But i wont have any updates til tuesday night. But anyways, i also get the intake off and placed the new intake on the motor to see how it looks. Tell me how u all thnik the frame/firewall looks and hte intake.

here is the intake being taken off, than off to see the insides. which btw, look very good IMO

heres a sneek peak at the intake on the motor

And here are the pics for the painting...enjoy....just remember, no clear yet

I dont believe that it is any taller....never even thought to look. But if it is, owell...i have loads of room from the top of the intake to the cowl hood.

trying to but it doesnt look like it will be in til the end of the week. And i am probably not going to have it for lowrollers,

But in the mean time, we are working on the clutch problem. Have a solution for it so he will be workin on that. But besdies that, we can do the intake, the sparkplug wires/plugs and start the wiring harness from CP before the motor is in there. The headers still need to be coated because i had to get bare metal ones so we could weld the EGR tube/air pump to the headers....so they have to be Ceramic coated still. I will be down on tuesday, thursday, and saturday this week so i want to get the motor in asap.

Re: Project--->LT1 swap and alittle more goodies!

I got a question for you guys that have the CP wirring....how long did it take you all to do the wirring? from start to finish? Just curious since we have only til the 22nd to get this done. I knw its a longshot with the amount of time that has been taking to get this far, but all the major mods are done besides the clutch and the radiator being moved forward. This is wats left when the motor is dropped in

-Wire the Current performance harness up
-wire the efans up
-push radiator/condenser forward
-mount efans to radiator support
-shorten d/s
-finish bungs on headers to get them coated
-run fuel/power steering lines
-drop the old rear in for the new 02 blazer rear

The thing is i need the motor in asap so i can gt the measurement for the d/s to be shortened, and to do this, i would have to get the rear in right? Some ppl i talk to say the 02 blazer rear is the same size vs. my stock 7.5 rear out of my 93. If so than the new rear shouldnt have to be in than right? I think the biggest things are going to be the d/s, and the rear....this is why i need to know this so i can get the d/s taken to the place to get done asap.

Re: Project--->LT1 swap and alittle more goodies!

putting in the harness is a cake walk..... with the motor out, i think it took me 5 minutes lol.... fans are easy as hell..... and please put the rear in first..... god only forbid something is different, ur d/s wont work.... id do that first..... i did an 8.5" rear and it took me 2 hrs to swap it, including brake lines
my personal advice would be to get the motor/trans in (exactly where u want it), put the rear in, and take ur d/s measurements, and take the d/s to get cut, so ur whole project isnt finished, but ur waiting on that.....
btw, looking good man, great progress! Good luck!

well i hope ours goes as simple as urs. And wat was the biggest problem u had with ur rear swap? was it a blazer rear with disc brakes? I want to make sure the the d/s will bolt up to the rear. I want to get the d/s ready to be shortned by saturday. So that means the motor/tranny must be in by saturday.

Re: Project--->LT1 swap and alittle more goodies!

the E-brake is usually the only problem with the rear disc brakes..possibly get a 4 wheel disc brake proportion valve

i was told that my stock proportion vavle will work fine. And hey, why dont you come down saturday and help out so we can kill two birds with one stone. Hotdog work on the front half of the truck and us two work on the rear swap. I really want this done for lowrollers, but dont think it will be done at the rate its going. So all help is really really needed.
