Re: Project--->LT1 swap and alittle more goodies!
alright got a update like i promised for saturday night....its not alot, mostly wat i did but its ready for firewall pounding and frame notching up front. But at this rate, i already kno there is no carlisle for me,
Anyways, heres the pics started to sand the frame ![]() ![]() ![]() left side is wat it looked like before i sanded, and right side is after i sanded ![]() fully sanded ![]() ![]() front end disassembled....steering shaft came out really well after the degreaser or w/e i used and powerwashing ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Like i said, this was only 3 hrs worth of work....so at this rate, engine may not be mocked in til end of next week, ... |

Re: Project--->LT1 swap and alittle more goodies!
Another update....not much but atleast its done. Got the frame notched for the compressor. And i primed the rear half of the frame. Dont worry about the leafs not being painted or the rear since these are going to be swapped in...
![]() ![]() but anyways heres the updates, ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Thats all for today. Got a couple things taken care of today though, so hope to have things going in the right direction. First off, with the EGR hose dheliema and now finding out that the air pump tube needs to be connected to the top of the header, I have just made my mind up to send these ceramic coated headers back to JTR and get bare metal ones. Than we will do the mods to the headers for the air pump and the egr hose, than get em coated from a place down here in DE. So if everything goes according to plan, firewall will be massaged a bit, and the blower box will be modded by saturday. SO saturday will hopefully be the first day for the motor to be mocked in....so please, please, please....everyone cross your fingers, pray, wish.....do whatever it takes to get this to that stage by saturday!!! haha |

Re: Project--->LT1 swap and alittle more goodies!
Alright....well got some, but not nearly enough done for my taste today. Got the notch for the compressor in the passenger sideframe completed for good....and got the old pos exhaust manifolds off the motor. ALso got the motor mounts off, not pictured though. But we caught a snag. The newer motor mounts are tricky and it might be dumb, but how do they bolt up? Its either they are not lined up striaght across the motor from driver side to passenger side, or the motor mount on the passenger side hits the knock sensor. Heres a pic of the mounts i got from jtr....what are we doing wrong?
this is the one bracket here....its the newer style brackets, not the ones they show in the book or website. I am lost...please help ![]() And here are the other pics ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Re: Project--->LT1 swap and alittle more goodies!
i'm not really understanding what your describing.....the brackets are side specific so are you sure you got the correct bracket on it's respective sides.
i believe i got the new brackets also on mine, the bigger tabs go on the drivers side cause the motor is offset to the passenger side. i'll see if i have a pic somewhere just the block sitting in the truck. Last edited by wirrrey21 : 07-20-2008 at 09:06 PM. |

Re: Project--->LT1 swap and alittle more goodies!
thats really wierd...why are they offset and no parallel from driver side to passenger side? nd that means that the driver side mount is farther forward to the front of the motor, correct? |

Re: Project--->LT1 swap and alittle more goodies!
dont forget, ur prob gonna have to cut the rearward "ear" of ur driver's side upper control arm to clear the headers..... not too much, but u have to remove prob 3/8" around....

oh yeah, and with the lt1's u might have to notch the pass. side motor mount bracket for the knock sensor..... Good luck!

Re: Project--->LT1 swap and alittle more goodies!
im pretty sure thats right with the mounts..... the lt1 uses a different hole on the pass. side i think, so it is offset.... ill check for sure later
what happened to the progress??? |

Re: Project--->LT1 swap and alittle more goodies!
you have different mount brackets than i do, but that should be right..... imo, ur better off notching the bracket than adding plumbing for the ks sensor...... it will not hurt any structural integrity

Re: Project--->LT1 swap and alittle more goodies!
when i said off set to the passenger side, i meant the motor wasn't centered over the engine cradle. it favored the passenger side. so if you were standing in front of the truck lookin at the front of the motor, the motor is pushed about 3/4" over to the passenger side. |

i didnt mean that they are crooked, they just mount to the block offset..... but the one long mount is shaped so they are even

Re: Project--->LT1 swap and alittle more goodies!
well i called him today and he said that he got it. The mounts are more forward than waht i thought they would be, but are fine. He said he didnt see the bolt hole hidden behind the a/c compressor. But that means no mods for the knock sensor...
So hoping and praying again, lol...the headers are bolted on for test fit. Now all we need to do is detach the steering column to fit the headers through it and test fit the motor. So crossing fingers, lol....should have a pic of it in the bay on saturday night. |

Re: Project--->LT1 swap and alittle more goodies!
Got another question for both lt1s10onair and wirrey....what did you guys do about your powersteering? I think wirrey when i talked to you that you did way with it...but a guy on the v8s10.org said that i can use this...and it will bolt right up to the orig. lt1 pump, but this one is low pressure so it wont blow my gear box to shreds.
http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?autofilter=1&part=ZOP%2D6175&N=700+ 115&autoview=sku And wat did you do about the pressure lines since its on the opposite side of the orig. one my old motor had? |

Re: Project--->LT1 swap and alittle more goodies!
i kept my power steering.... if you get a firebird/camaro pressure line it works.... kinda lol.... it needs some bending, but it works...... it bolts right to an s10 steering box, goes under the oil pan and connects to the pump, but ull have to tweak it a lot, and the reservoir is no biggie.... i mounted mine on a small bracket i made to bolt to the fuse box..... (but mines a 2nd gen)

Re: Project--->LT1 swap and alittle more goodies!
heres the days progress!!!
check out the headers...really cleans the side of the block up vs. the old shitty manifolds ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() God i could not wait for this moment! ![]() ![]() ![]() problem, the notch the jtr book said to do is not big enough, crap! ![]() ![]() see anything that isnt there? Yup the driver side header would not let the motor go in bolted to it ![]() ![]() ![]() check out the distance the shifter goes back, ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() This is not good, this header is very very very close to the clutch master cylinder. How do I get this to not happen? ![]() ![]() ![]() ANd one random shot.... ![]() Again, what did you all do about the clutch master cylinder since the line is plastic and it is plastic also. The header is literally touching it. Though, we did not have the motor 100% in the position we are goign to, so the motor should offset to the passenger side a little bit, but its still way to close for comfort. |

Re: Project--->LT1 swap and alittle more goodies!
pics no workie for me
but as far as the clutch line, you got a couple options. 1)if you feel like cutting and welding, you could move the clutch master cylinder over an inch. 2)or you could buy one of these http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?autofilter=1&part=THE%2D14010&N=700 +4294923290+4294845355+115&autoview=sku http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku these two products slide over the hose, so you'll have to cut them open and zip tie them on. no big deal. or you could use this which is velcro and waste(i mean spend) an extra $15 http://store.summitracing.com/partde...autoview=sk u welcome to the wonderful world of customizing. where "Murphy's Law" rules. Re: Project--->LT1 swap and alittle more goodies!
hey i dont know how big your notch for the ac compressor is, but you could slide the engine to the pass side some, from the looks of it it seems centered in those JTR mounts. I slid mine over the pass a little for better booster and brake line clearance. But looks good man, i know the feeling of seeing it come together

Re: Project--->LT1 swap and alittle more goodies!
motor looks good sittin in there. your best bet with the clutch master is to try to move the motor over as much as possible to the passenger side. but how much more room to you have till the A/C hits the frame???
are you baggin this thing too??? |

Re: Project--->LT1 swap and alittle more goodies!
well i guess iwill make another post count in my own thread, ....
Got the motor all cleaned up. Power washed it after i degreased it and you can finally see some AL heads! But seriously, it really did clean alot up. I will get pics of it saturday night....hopefully in the engine bay for final mock up....than here comes paint on the firewall! And i am not sure if i posted here, but my header on the driver side hits the clutch master cylinder and literally the header tube is resting on it. I was told that there is some sort of ''c'' clip or slav or something in there that can be taken out so it can point straight down so the header clears. What did you guys do about this? |

Re: Project--->LT1 swap and alittle more goodies!
Ok just got some really good progress done. First off here are the cleaned motor pics. Really cleaned it up big time. Makes the 2k i spent on it look a bit better.
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ANd here are the newest pics. First is of the a/c notch taht had to be notched bigger. ![]() little notch here. ![]() firewall massaged, and a/c box notched ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() THats it for this week. I am very happy with only three hours of work wat we got done. Next week, we will have this to get done to keep on track. -Firewall painted/frame painted -new intake put on -spark plugs/wires put on -And the start of the rear to be put in to see how much the D/S has to be cut. Hope you all like the progress. |
