Re: Project--->LT1 swap and alittle more goodies!
now that i have been thinking about it, would it better to do the three link and get all the necessary items for the rear and than have to do the labor to install it and all , or shoul di go for this and get it PC'd red to match my intake, and calipers? http://www.suicidedoors.com/4-link-k...-poly-bushings
personally since i and if i get hotdog to help me, we are not ''airride gurus''' so i am trying to get something that would keep my v8s10 a v8s10 ....meaning still beable to rip up some rubber and take it to the track everyso often and not worry, and also trying to get something that isnt too bad on a install. Less is more when it comes to that, less labor work, the better so i dont have to get charged as much, lol. But with this kit above, does it come with everything minus the compressors, airtanks, lines ? If i go with this i want to d this 5link powdercoated, the forum front special (while adding another 5 gal tank and replacing the comps with dual 480s). and also tubular control arms of some sorts. Than i want to get trailor fenders upfront welded in, and wheel tubs out back. And also, anyway that i can lay with having hte coolant resevior still intact where it is? its above the passenger side tub. And lastly, bagged on 18s or 20s? Knowing i want to keep HEAT and if possilbe a/c, which would you/should i do? |

Re: Project--->LT1 swap and alittle more goodies!
Yea the SD 5 link kit comes with everything except the air management; fittings, line, tanks, and compressors.
If you're trying to keep heat/ac and your reservoir tank where it is i would do 18's all around for better tire rotations, or 18/20 combo for the look. |

Re: Project--->LT1 swap and alittle more goodies!
well for the PS resevior, i was going to move the battery to th erear and put it where the battery used to be. And same for the overflow tank. This is how i see it, i havent had true a/c in probably 2+ yrs. Just have had luke warm or maybe even the feel of a semi cool breaze, but nothignn like actual a/c supposed to feel like. So if it was half as cold or blowing as it was, i think i can deal with it. So i was thinking of doing something like this, but not to the extreme since his is bagged for 22s upfront. But you get the idea. THan i can mod the blower box accordingly. ![]() ![]() ![]() __________________ __________________ |

Re: Project--->LT1 swap and alittle more goodies!
ya that think looks bad ass....especially since hes got those good ole' 20 inch irocs, but said to see that i didnt see any pics layed out with em.... truck is running good, still have codes throwing but they dont take away the fact that this thing can stil roast the tires...lol but i just filled up the tank, luckily it was only 30 bux, but i got the worst mpg yet, 14.4 mpg. Last two fill ups were 15 mpg. but as for plans to bag it. ....well heres the thing, i have 500 still to pay off for the v8 swap, about another 600 for bills to pay off, than i am scott free of bills!!! Than if i wanted to, i wanted to start to bag it the begining of april, so that would give me like 4 months to save up. But i doubt that i would be able to do it. especially sinc ei would like the 20s when its done. I figure without labor, it would cost about 2500-3000 for parts for wat i want, and i would atleast want to compromise with the parents with saving money while spending on the truck. I think if i get the money i want from my job promotion, i would hope after all is said and done to bank from 400-500 bucks a month straight into my ING account. So theres hte update....any ideas on how to get 3000+ in 4 months, .... |

Re: Project--->LT1 swap and alittle more goodies!
But thing that kills me is the fact that i would have to pay someone to at least help me out with doing ths b/c i dont have the tools space or anything for it. But as for bagging, does it look like my wheels/tires upfront would tuck? they are front offset iroc wheels and ihave two inch spindles on already. Not sure if it would clear or not. |

if they dont stick out the fenders they will be fine. Those big ass tires i have on the front of mine are flush with the outside of the fender, and tuck waaay up in , camber is your friend. i just checked your pics of the front and you should be fine, the rear looks ok too

Justin, truck sounded awsome at my house last weekend. We got to get those videos of ur truck that we did, especially that one that was a 50yrd. burnout down a hill. It was crazy, lol
But dude this thing would look so badass bagged on 20s with that lt1. Shits pretty fast for a stock motor i must say. Next time i see this, i want it painted and laying frame! |

Re: Project--->LT1 swap and alittle more goodies!
so i just got done talking to my mom and kinda hinted that i wanted to do some more ''suspension'' work to the truck and she wasnt liking the idea since ijust paid alot for my motor swap. But she was like, ''why not clean up the interior like you were going to do?" And that got me thinking, for 20s you have to pull the dash out to tub, so i will PM the guy on here i was going to get to do the dash and have him glass the dash. Than when the tubs are done for, i would put the new dash in painted and glassed. So than i can just do the other shit like the a/b pillars later.
I was going to try to get her to buy the sd wheelwell/notch cover combo, but she was like ''wtf is taht for?" haha. So how does this sound to you guys? I already have my a pillars smoothed like a babies ass, lol. Just need to do the ''b'' pillars and the kickpanels and all panels are good to go. Than would be the doorpanels. But tey would be not done til later. So wat i am saying is while Anthony', my painter/body/welder/everything guy is doing welding or such, i cna be working on the interior pieces. So hopefully by this show season, the interior besides the doorpanels, centerconsole/subbox would be done in addition to the bags, wheels and paint. so wat you think? |

But i still need to look up was to do the clutch and move it and all to get this thing ready in all was to start bagging it. I dont want to find problems when its all torn apart, rather know some of the obvious problems now and get it figured out now rather then. |

Re: Project--->LT1 swap and alittle more goodies!
what do you all think about these? i can get them in 18x8 and 18x9.5 wide and i was thinking 245/40/18 front and 285/35/18 rear. This would be on a black truck, all black besides the chrome phantom grille
It says that these 9.5 inch wide have 5inch BS and the 8 inch wide have 4.9 inch/4.517 inch BS, i know nothing about the back spacing. So does this sound good or what? Whiich btw due to a tremendous amount of financial problems at my house, i am not going to be able to spend the 4000+ i wanted to save up for bags and 20s and such. So i was thinking of doing some cheaper stuff, like the wheels, dropping it more, the posi swap/gear upgrade. I still maybe able to swing the interior dash to be glassed also, i have half the hard interior plastics smoothed and pretty much ready for paint, just need the ''b''pillars to be done and the dash. So what do you all think? and on a side note, what besides the actual posi unit do i need to buy to swap the posi into the rear? its a 02 s10 blazer rear, 8.5 open diff. Never had a posi in it and it has 3.42 gears that i want to upgade to maybe 4.10s. Last edited by llorracs93s10 : 11-27-2008 at 07:10 PM. |

Those wheels will look good. I just personally think that general spoke design is way overused, not saying that to deter you away from them though. haha
For the front wheels you're going to want to get the 4.9" BS ones to be able to tuck when you do get the money to bag it. |

Re: Project--->LT1 swap and alittle more goodies!
Ok, well its been awhile and i dont know if any of you read my other thread, but the truck is back at the shop,
....has a decently loud knocking sound to it. Well its getting looked over and i am alittle worried of wat it could be. But if the motor ahs to be yanked out, I am probably going to do a cc503 cam swap into it. But the news gets a little bit better. I got a text tonight while watching the Super Bowl, ....my painted finally text me back. He says that he is going to be free in a week or so and can work on the truck. So if the motor needs a good amount of work, i can have him take the bed and get that worked on and all and than have th truck taken over when its ready to go for a paintjob. So hopefully by the beginning of April, it will be painted/motor worked, and inspected, lol Cross your fingers. |

Re: Project--->LT1 swap and alittle more goodies!
well i figured for right now to bring this back to life....til i get some time to make another thread.....But heres some updates.
Heres a pic of where cyl. 5 spun, dont think u can see it but where it spun a bearing, it has a good amount of grooves in it. Left side is the grooves, rightside is none ![]() heres the engine upside down. Got some work to do on it. Gonna take off probably the a/c compressor, def. the alt. and polish both them up. ![]() Heres my engine bay w/o a certain something....lol ![]() And lastly, heres wat i did today....brake lines look way better than the did off the factory line IMO, lol ![]() Sorry for the crappy cell phone pics, camera isnt working so this is all i have. Re: Project--->LT1 swap and alittle more goodies!
And if you dont know, plans are for the next few weeks:
1)Engine rebuild 2)rear gears upgraded from 3.42 to 4.10 3)Eaton posi unit installed 4)Rear end repainted since i did a shitty job this time last year. Plus a Polished aluminum Differential cover. 5)Engine block being painted flat black, and some of the engine accessoires like the Alternator will be polished. 6)Truck to go to the paint shop to be painted after truck is up and running. 7)Headers getting re ceramic coated due to the coating flaking off. Other than that....it will have to wait til next winter to be done. Like this -Polished Alumiinum overflow tank to mount to radiator supoort, battery relocated to bed, computer mounted to the passenger side to clean up the firewalll, move the PS resevior to where the battery was. All that will free up some room in the passenger side of the bay to make it look better. |

Re: Project--->LT1 swap and alittle more goodies!
no picture update here, but i finally got down to work on the truck again today. First of all, I should have the motor back to be reassembled mid next week, so we are right on schedule.
So as for the progress today, the guys shop that we did the swap at has a parts cleaner stations that flows a very good parts cleaner and has a scrubber at the end and i went to town on part of the transfer case that had a shit ton of grime. Also did the a/c compressor, the PS mounting bracket, the big ass Alternator bracket, the flywheel, the starter, and the harmonic balancer. Than i took all the bolts and took the wire wheel he ahs and cleaned the threads up of the rust and dirt. Plans are to now blast the ALT. bracket, PS bracket, A/c compressor, the Alternator and than paint all them in flat black to match the color the engine block will be painted. So hope to get pics of the motor when it comes back fromt he machine shop and than of the progress. |

Transfer case? I thought you had a 2wd? I'm assuming you mean transmission case...
Your list of stuff sounds good. What happened to your headers? Why did they flake? |

THe powdering coating place that did my ceramic coating used a companys ceramic on my headers, and another set, and both flaked just like mine did. He tried to get ahold of them adn couldnt get in contact of them. So he ditched them. SO i got them done again for free....picking them up tomorrow. |

Re: Project--->LT1 swap and alittle more goodies!
And as for the cost to pay Hotdog, i had that paid off two weeks after the swap was done. I had saved up 4000 of the 4500 he charged when it was completely done. I didnt realize how much i did til i countted all my money. I just threw it in a safe spot and just forgot about it til it was time, lol I hope to have the motor back mid next week. It will be a short block than with all the pistons, cam ect. in it besides the heads and up. Pretty much it iwill be a bare block so we can paint it, than put the freshily painted accessories on it, heads, intake, and everything else. So i am looking at about 3 weeks to have it ready to be fired up. Might be a nother week or few days atleast because of the rear is being upgraded too. Which btw, i need to replace my clutch so thats about 250 bux that iwish i didnt need, but hell gotta do it now while the motor iis off the tranny. And also, the guy that is doing the machine work to the motor said that he doesnt think that the 4.10s would be good for me b/c he said that it would pretty much eliminate 1st gear. True or no? I mean i am over on the ls1tech forum all the time and the guys with the t56 trannys say t56+4.10s= ....so wat do u think? I have to know soon sinc ei want to have the rear done in time to drive it in a few weeks. I dont want to hold off the rear til later since the truck hopfully wont be in this garage for a long time....lolAnd forgot to say, but give me til about April and we can go....want to fully break in the motor, and i have a few goodies that i am not mentioning to you all..... , or do I???![]() |
