Project--->LT1 swap and alittle more goodies!
Alright I have a 1993 chevy s10 and i am finally 1 yr and a week after I registered, I am finally starting a project thread. Little background on the vehilce than i will let you know on what it has had done to it. It has a 2.8 v6 with a 5spd tranny.
Here is a list of mods that are done to the truck as of now: starting with the interior is -cavi seat swap, started to smooth all textured pieces for smooth interior, sub box half built...still needs to be fiberglassed. exterior: 2 inch cowl hood, chrome phantom grille, fiberglass bumper cover, clear corners/parking lights, checkmate tonneau cover, tailgate skinned, and molded rollpan. And my suspension consists of 3 inch drop blocks, 2 inch drop spindles and 1 inch (4.3L) drop coils. Now for the good stuff. For the project, We...me and "Hotdog" as he likes to be called will be doing the following with mostly him doin it, lol.. -swapping in a 95 z28 LT1/t56 -replacing the stock manifolds with cermaic coated sanderson headers -replacing the stock intake manifold with my ported and painted intake -put either a stock shifter or a b&m short throw shifter in(suggestions?) -paint motor block black, leaving the AL heads alone -replace the stock rear with a 02 blazer rear with drilled slotted rotors adn 3.42 gears -replacing stock leafs with zq8 leafs and drop the front another 1inch if motor doesnt drop it enough Also happening, but not with Hotdog: -getting my buddy to paint the truck with 2001 GM ''Onyx black'' -painting the frame gloss black All in all, I hope everything goes right and i can get this ready for Carlisle all truck nationals, but that really means that i need everything to go right, and we kno that always doesnt happen. But anyways, post # 2 will have the pics....thanks for looking, and by all means...help me out cuz i will need it, lol |

thanks. unfortunately we ran into another problem....the power steering pump is on the opposite side of the motor vs where the old 2.8 was. I am stumped and the jtr book doesnt have anything on it. |

dont know his actual name but we call him ''hotdog''. He lives in symrna. Its pretty cool, he works for the govt delievering mail from 3am to 9am and he sleeps for two hrs and than he works on my truck. Rather have it like that than a guy working to the late hrs of the night. |

Re: Project--->LT1 swap and alittle more goodies!
, but he is a pretty down to earth dude. He told me he could get along with a half empty spit bucket if it would talk to him, lol? So i think we will be fine. I already told him i am no means mechanically inclined enough for any of this, but i am there to be his bitch and to learn. Thats the biggest reason why iwant to be there, to learn and see how it goes all together...Oh and to have a project thread![]() Also, will....what time you going to head to bristol for the show? And what are you taking? I have to wait n see til tomorrow to see if my bro has off, which i hope he does so than we can go and take his up there. Re: Project--->LT1 swap and alittle more goodies!
isthat a real LT4 intake manifold? or is itan LT coated red? if its an LT4 it will not fit correctly on the LT1 heads, the head ports are off a little bit.
Also the A/c will hit the frame if you use F-body accesories, they do make an A/C elimnator for them, but they are hard to find tho. |

any tips, pointers, things to look out for, and pics? The guy hasnt ever done the ""s10 v8" swap before, but he was a mechanic for the govt. and all and has his on garage/shop...so he is capable, just needs some helpful pointers and ways to get things done quicker so i can have this for carlisle all truck nationals, ![]() |

Re: Project--->LT1 swap and alittle more goodies!
not really much more than you already got, the LT1 is not that much different than a reg small block. and thats a pretty straight forward swap. If you have any questions ill do what i can to help, but i did that swap about 8 years ago so i might be a little rusty. hopefully you get it done for carlisle, i should be there and will keep an eye out for it

Re: Project--->LT1 swap and alittle more goodies!
looks like you're off to a good start bro. i don't know if i've mentioned this in the PM's but there is a company that makes some bracketry for the LT1. the name of the company is alan grove components.
also, when this "hotdog" character finally drops in the motor make sure there's space between the oil pan and the cradle. i had to notch the cradle ever so slightly. if you're headin to G4L this weekend i'll see you there. i'll have my truck there if you wanna check it out and ask some questions. |

two questions....''cradle''? and wat type of bracketry do they make? and i am banking on my bro not having work or i probably wont be able to go since i will have no truck or ride. I would like to see it though. SO i am going to cross my fingers to hope my bro doesnt have to work. |

Re: Project--->LT1 swap and alittle more goodies!
the make accesory brackets. i checked the site last night and they've only got 2 for an LT1. i bought the A/C & PS delete bracket when i built mine. it moves the alternator down next to the frame. but i don't have A/C or PS so it worked for me. well i hope to see you there then. just come over to the Exceeding Limits tent, and ask for Mikey. |

Re: Project--->LT1 swap and alittle more goodies!
well no picture update but i do have some updates. First and formost, we got the motor pulled out of the bay for good!!!! And secondly, my painter answerd his phone and we got him to come over and take the bed. So right now for all you baggers out there, the truck looks like its ridin''cali'', lol. I will get pics tomorrow nite.
Tomorrows agenda is to roll out the truck and power wash the engine bay, and to powerwash teh frame under teh bed adn start to sand it down. |

Re: Project--->LT1 swap and alittle more goodies!
Got another update, but with pics! lol....Just the pics of the truck bedless and of the engine bay without its old weak ass heart. Heres the pics
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Well this was just from wat was done the night before....Today i took it upon myself to do some work so i dont have to fork so much money over, lol....but i got to work on powerwashing the rear half of the frame and the engine bay. So i will have pics of that on saturday night. But hopefully by saturday night pics, youwill see the notch for the a/c compressor and the firewall mods for the motor/headers and all. So let me know anything needed to be known. ALso, i dont have the money to buy 125 bux worth of POR15 for one quart and another XX dollars for the prep an shit. But wat would be the next best stuff to do the frame? I obviously knw shit isnt going to stay like it will after its dries and looks good...but i need something that will clean the frame up enough so when the truck is painted, the frame doesn stick out like a sore thumb being shit brown. |

i don't think it chips easily, i sprayed it under my carpet cause it also acts as a sound deadener. i don't remember how much it is, i only bought one can and it was awhile ago. well i hope to see you there. you can ask all the questions you want. the only thing i can't help you with is the wiring, i had my buddy wire the motor. |

Re: Project--->LT1 swap and alittle more goodies!
got some more goodies!!! One phrase willl tell it all, ''plug and play''
![]() and my comp that was flashed ![]() Thanks jared and current performance....actual build time and shipping were excellent! fast and all. Well i wont have another update until saturady night. By thn the firewall should be ''massage'' for the headers and motor clearances, and the a/c compressor notch should be done. So i am hoping for next monday or tuesday for the motor tranny mock up. |

Re: Project--->LT1 swap and alittle more goodies!
If everything goes right, we should have the first mock up with the firewall and all worked by tuesday night. So that gives about 2 wks of work on it. also i forgot that i am having it paintd too. So he wont have the truck for hopefully a half a week, so thats now about 10 working days. Last edited by llorracs93s10 : 07-10-2008 at 12:00 AM. |

Re: Project--->LT1 swap and alittle more goodies!
I got another question, my dude doesnt do a/c and at this point i just want the truck up and running. And i have driven with no a/c for at least 1-1/2 yrs...so can i have the truck running in fine condition with the a/c hoses reconnected, but not recharged and all? Cuz he said that the a/c would cost like 600 bux since the system was contaminated. ANd i dont have that money now, i just want the damn thing for carlisle! |

Re: Project--->LT1 swap and alittle more goodies!
those horse shit pulley from autozone/orieleys are garbage, i had nothing but problems with the one on my v8. first off didnt clear the bolts, had to grind them down, and secondly, lasted about 8 months before it started squeeling beyond ****ign belief and ate up about two belts before it started making any noise, ended up having to buy a 60 dollars one from chevy
and keep up the good work, im liking where this is going |

Re: Project--->LT1 swap and alittle more goodies!
And well unfortunately i was told that we are keepin the intake on there, the stock one for now. Till it gets up and running. But at this point, if it saves a day or so of work to get it done by carlisle than i will sacrifice some looks for going there. But headers will still be on there. I just have to clean the fuel rails up more since i only did one and i only did have the intake fins. |
