Re: [Project] Living up to my username
yep. I gotcha. I am going to look into buying some and get myself a little kit ready so I can inflate tires, hook up to a shop compressor, blow stuff off with an air nozzle, etc. Thank you for explaining how that all worked. I was unclear on it before.

Re: [Project] Living up to my username
that sucks about the compressor. only a few months old and brushes are gone? for reference, when i had just my front bagged with a 450 and 5 gallon tank, i had an hour meter hooked up to it from new. from aug-dec it was up to 20 hrs daily driven.

Re: [Project] Living up to my username
I have had and been using it for over a year now, usually things arent warrentied for over a year. and for the $25 for new motor brushes it sure as hell aint worth sending it back and waiting and all that mess. the brushes came today, when i get off work im going straight home and seeing if i can fix it hopefully.

Re: [Project] Living up to my username
make sure when u put them in the faces of the brush that touches the communtator will have a slight angle. make sure they are both inserted at the same angle to keep commutator wear even.

Re: [Project] Living up to my username
So....I learned something new about the Oasis compressor today. It has two positive contacts on the motor and 2 ground contacts. And these contacts wear down overtime. I replaced the brushes(motor contacts or whatever you wanna call them) and my compressor is alive and kicken again!
Ok, so first I took of the end cap off the compressor, this is whats under there: ![]() Here is a comparision of an old used brush that I removed next to a new brush. the "brush" is what applies power to the spinning shaft of the motor. positive and negative forces atracting/repeling over and over again is what makes a motor spin (people should know that already but if not thats what a motor is haha). ![]() Here on the left you can see the brush holder thing with the brush removed. On the right you can see a brush holder with a new brush installed. there is a curly spring thing that keeps the brush against the spinning shaft of the motor. ![]() Here you can see all 4 new brushes installed. ![]() the old used up brushes that went in the trash can: ![]() And yesturday my viar 480 compressor came in. This will get mounted to the truck with a toggle switch and will only be used in emergency situations like when the brushes suddenly wear out on the oasis (there are no signs of wear, it will just simply stop working one day like it did me). Or sometimes, with extended use of the oasis it will overheat and cut off until it cools down. So those are the times I will use this viar480. I can also use that for indoor shows since it only pulls 20 amps so it will be able to run off my power supply. but with 10 gallons of air and a single viar 480 it will take forever to fill up. I need to order a fitting and a water trap and then ill get it mounted up sometime next week. ![]() |

Re: [Project] Living up to my username
softer brushes = more torque
its a drawback for pushing a lotta air. |

Re: [Project] Living up to my username
water traps are good and they do help but they do not catch all the water your best bet is to mount the water trap as far away from the compressor as possible when the hot air from the compressor cools it creates condensation in the tank so you will always have water in your system best bet is to drain the tank regularly and put some air compressor anti freeze i the tank this is sold at any big rig shop just dump a little in about two tablespoons the vapors from the liquid keep the valves from freezing and kind of lubricate the valves ![]() |

Re: [Project] Living up to my username
you can use fittings and attach plastic airline to your leader hose. That is what I did on my truck since I have the EDC in the engine bay, going to a leader hose, then plastic air line, then to the water trap that is all the way back by my tank. Still get a ton of oil passing through it through and goes into the tank. It's nasty when I drain it, lol.

Re: [Project] Living up to my username
I would guess because of the lubrication. My valves used to freeze in the winter all the time but last year I used airbarak antifreeze and the only time my valves froze was when there was like a foot or more of snow in my bed.
I have not seen any benefits if any this summer, my truck is broken down. Matt |

Re: [Project] Living up to my username
i use parker push lok directly on the compressor
been doing it for years and have had no problems but you can use plastic push lock after the leader just use a push lock fitting or a compression fitting either works fine |

Re: [Project] Living up to my username
don't know... lol. My buddy greg was plumbing that while I was painting the back half of the frame, haha. It came with the EDC kit through in the bag of fittings that comes with it.
if it makes you feel any better, I voted for your truck this month... too bad the competition is so high! lol |

Re: [Project] Living up to my username
Ill just stick to my original plan of leader hose, then water trap then plastic line then tank.
and thanks Mike lol, but Sean is killing me, which is understandable. |

Re: [Project] Living up to my username
push lok is awesome. only plastic i have is for gauges, besides the like 1' section that goes from the trap to the tank. i needed one more fitting, but i wouldnt want that stuff for the whole system. kinks, melts, you name it. you can pretty much tie the push lok in a knot and still wont hurt it.

Re: [Project] Living up to my username
i used a fitting that had 3/8 ID on both ends basically as a connection for my leader hose and PTC fitting. Then i used a 4 way on my tank
2 port - 2 different comp. one under bed other in bed 1 port - PS 1 port - Tank |
