Re: [Project] Living up to my username
damn adam, im impressed. i saw this thread when you first started it, but have not looked again until now.
my plan is to do exactly what you are... graduate college and get my first job as an EE and start bagging my truck next summer. Probably exactly one year from now im going to start a thread just like this. So, in the mean time, it's research time. I already started a list of what I want and im sure ill edit it along the ways when i read up more. Anyways, i am now subscribed. good luck on everything, and i hope to ( / better) see you and your bagged X at carlisle this year... it's my first year going! |

Re: [Project] Living up to my username
Ok I got lots done today, lots of pics below.
My valves that were on backorder came today, they are 3/8" and they are a lot smaller then i imagined, i like it! And i got me a shirt....not like i have enough allready haha. ![]() ive had this sticker since i recieved my roll pan from SD back in the fall, and i felt its finally time to rock the sticker. lol, its probably a temporary deal, we'll see though ![]() Now, todays real progress. First got the front link bar frame mounts on. ![]() ![]() figured before i mock up the axle id get rid of my 3rd shock (hop shock- the zq8s and xtreme came with this shock to reduce wheel hop. although I never had mine in place, it was wierd. so the mount had to go cuz it was worthless and in the way ![]() cut off wheel ![]() grinder ![]() flap disked...which is how im going clean up the rest of the axle later on ![]() Then we jump ahead to basically the entire 5 link installed. i ran into a small(well big problem if I needed this together tonight but I dont). SD must have forgotten to pack my bag of 10 bolts for the differential because you cant reuse the stock ones because they need to now be longer due to the differential bracket thats part of the 5 link. So I need to talk to SD (Dave) tomorrow about getting me those bolts, I was also short 4 bolts (and nuts, washers, and lock washers) for the new crossmembers, so I will take care of it tomorrow: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Ill need to drill out a small hole in the front of the axle pad for the front link bar, it hits when the truck will be at full lift(basically the position i have the axle sitting now.) |

Looks awesome! I love the picture of the dif cover, but man all this bolt on stuff make me leary, I'd be way to tempted to weld it and mess up the nice clean look of the candy powercoating

Re: [Project] Living up to my username
looks awsome bro, you will honestly get real tired of the dragstar sticker. I had so many local people ask me and joke about " your a drag queen" and shit and i got tired of explaining what it is, so its no longer on my truck.

Re: [Project] Living up to my username
moving along real fast. looks real good adam.
slammed03- check your RPO codes, there is a sticker inside your glove box, run them rpo codes with the rpo code decoder located on this site. that will tell you every option your truck has. |

Re: [Project] Living up to my username
yea dave will hook u up on the missing bolts. they left my differential bolts out also. as for the spring perches on the axle, you need to take quite a bit out of the front of them so the bar wont hit, i used a hole saw on mine

Re: [Project] Living up to my username
well then go into the rpo decoder and find out. that's the sure way to know if you have a zq8. unless you still have the dealer sticker from your truck.

Re: [Project] Living up to my username
Tonights progress, as always im a picture whore, sucks to be you if you got 56K.....
notched the axle pads to allow the front link bar mounts to travel freely without hitting them.....so i used a hole saw first ![]() then used a cut off wheel to cut of the rest ![]() back to this later... I cut off the brake line bracket, gonna weld it back onto the notch later ![]() I dunno what this weight looking thing is on the axle housing, the damn axle housing doesnt spin so why is there this little weight thing? ![]() well anyways as my new saying goes "when in doubt, cut it out!" ![]() Spent a lot of time on this tonight, used the flap disc wheel on my grinder and began to realy clean the axle. I got tons more work to do on this lol ![]() ![]() and this is just a nice little close up of how the axle pads look once notched ![]() I talked to Dave at SD about the missing bolts, he said he would ship them out. I had asked if he could overnight them but he didnt specify if he did it overnight or regular shipping, I guess I'll find out tomorrow now wont I. |
