Re: [Project] Living up to my username

haha, screw you guys, dont underestimate the junior!!! lol, it actually felt far more sturdy then the other ones they had. and being that im cutting small brake line this is what i felt best fit my needs. the bigger it is, the longer the small of the blade which means more wobbaly.

and ill definitly get that brake diagram reposted tomorrow in better quality. but it is on my computer at work...and im home now. once im done and got everything proven to work i think om going to make a "how to" thread on stainless steel braided hose lines, and this particulat proportioing valve and stuff

Re: [Project] Living up to my username

a pipe cutter? how in the world do you plan on using a pipe cutter on braided stainless steel with a teflon inner linning? the direction straight from Earls Plumbing clearly states the words "hack saw" as the correct way to cut the line. so a pipe cutter would have be the incorrect way to do it, and a hack saw is the correct way...and i prefer to do it the correct way lol. a hack saw is also what Joe (Genx-treme) recommended to use and used himself.

oh allright, maybe i will try that, seems a hella lot faster then hack saw. i have pair of wire cutters that can slice through 1/0 wire with ease....i might give those a quick try...

Re: [Project] Living up to my username

I like using heat shrink on braided hoses better than tape... Just a thought.

Re: [Project] Living up to my username

why use heat shrink? it just comes off anyways. seems like it would be a mess to get off once you cut it. you only have it on there while you are cutting so the hose doesnt fray. or are you saying you use the headshrink for something else?

Re: [Project] Living up to my username

I usually just use a short piece and leave it on there permanently. Or if you want to take it off just slice it with a razor and it comes right off no mess no adhesive.

they are from home depot....specifically made for cutting large gauge wire. cuts through 4 gauge like butter.....1/0 it can still do but takes some hand strength. i dont think it could larger. they were $25 cutters so they are a decent pair of "wire chompers" as I call them

sounds like if you leave it on you are compromising the integrity of the connection at the hose end fitting though. Im just gonna follow the instructions which say to use electrical tape, cut it, then remove the electrical tape. the instructions wouldnt tell me wrong....so its a safe bet.

Re: [Project] Living up to my username

Oh and I forgot to mention I didn't leave heat shrink on anything critical like brake lines. I only left it on things like my vacuum lines that I did in steel braid.

ooooohhhhhh that makes more sense then. i figured you were talking about the brake lines. ok, then leaving it on seems more acceptable in that case.

Re: [Project] Living up to my username

I had tried the shears thing, and it worked, but it also deformed the inner tubing a lil and made it kind of a pain to slide it onto the fiting nipple...a hack saw worked the best. I promise. Heat shrink works well too...I just chose to use the tape method cuz I'm cheap..lol...also a small scratch awl works best to seperate the braid so you can fit it over the nipple. Good luck Adam...call me if you need a hand.

Call you if I need a hand eh? hey Joe...I need a hand. how about you get your ass up to Maryland and give me a hand haha. I'll let ya know, but I think I'm set now. Between your help and the instructions that came with the hose I think I got this all figured out now, just need to physically do it all, which i will start Friday and work on all weekend.

Re: [Project] Living up to my username

i redid the screen shot pic of my brake fittings layout and its much clearer to see now, it updated on the last page but here it is again. hopefully this is helpful to some of you guys

and just to clarify...

The 2lb RPV is a 2 pound(pressure pounds we are talking here) Residual Pressure Valve.
it is the blue thing in this picture:

and in this picture you can see the new disc/disc combination/proportioning valve I bought off ebay. it is one of the most common ones I have seen people use on this forum.

Are you going to have the insurance company come out look at your truck to insure it for a higher value?

Re: [Project] Living up to my username

well i have geico currently. and you can do something called a ryder, which is when you add on aftermarket parts to the policy for the value you declare them at. and you pay more for your ploicy based upon the extra dollar amount you are insuring. So I will either do that and add on everything I have done, or look into an insurance company designed around the idea of custom/rare cars like Hagardy Insurance Co.

Re: [Project] Living up to my username

hagerty is strict as hell, i talked to a lady a last year and she said that depending on the year and mileage, the vehicle must be driven less than 2,500 miles per year and every licensed driver in your household must have a designated car. they also said that my truck wasn't classified in any of their categories. and since. now i'm paying 65/month on it now and my policy is covering the value of $20,000 through mercury.
